Abstract

The essay deals with the relationship between liturgy und integrity of creation. It aims at providing a liturgical and theological explanation to the question: whether the Christian liturgy can contribute to the global movement regarding the integrity of creation. This study analyses theologically some selected eucharistic prayer texts in which the praise of God the Creator and of his works of creation occur. This study shows us that the theme of creation was an integral part of ancient Christian eucharistic prayers, and it remains the important element of the eucharistic prayers in the new time. The introduction of the theme of creation into the new eucharistic prayers in Roman Missal 1970 was one of the visible fruits of the eucharistic prayer reform after the second Vatican council. On the one hand, it expresses the new awareness of the richness of ancient liturgical tradition. On the other hand, the motif of creation has a close relevance to the hope and concern of our times. It should offer us a theological and liturgical inspiration in developing an ethical awareness and human responsibility toward the integration of creation.

Abstract

This paper deals with a marriage ritual of the Dayak Barai tribe, known as Tikah Kawitn. The purpose of this paper is to explore the local wisdom and values behind the marriage customs of the Dayak Barai tribe and to find their relevance for appreciating and living the values of Catholic marriage. This paper uses the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) method. The author finds that the Dayak Barai tribe values the nobility of traditional marriages. It can be seen in pre-wedding rituals and marriage ceremonies designed with symbolic actions. The Tikah Kawitn ritual also contains the essential values of marriage as taught by the Catholic Church, namely monogamy, not being divorced, directed at heredity, and the welfare of the household. The author concludes that the values of the traditional marriage of the Dayak Barai tribe, tikah kawitn, can contribute to the process of deepening and appreciating the nobility of the Catholic Church's marriage, especially for the Dayak Barai tribe who are Catholic.

Abstract

This essay discusses the structure of the Paschal Vigil in Roman Missal m 1970 (2002). The celebration of the Paschal Vigil has a very central place in the liturgy of the Catholic Church. It is regarded as mater omnium sacrarum vigilarium, the mother of all celebrations of holy vigils. However, based on the historical study of the development of Paschal celebrations one can identify the problem of the current structure of Paschal Vigil. This essay aims to explain the problematic point of the structure of the current Paschal Vigil. One of the basic observations is that the Liturgy of the Word shows a combination of two elements that have different functions and meanings in the whole celebration, namely (1) the vigil with the Old Testament readings and (2) the liturgy of the word as one part of the mass. In the celebration of the current Paschal Vigil, the vigil with Old Testament readings is disappeared. The author attempts to propose a personal suggestion for revising the current structure of Paschal Vigil. The author's proposal can be considered as a basic idea for further discussion.

Abstract

The article deals with an important issue in Christianity, namely the root of Christianity in Judaism. The issue presupposes a theological relationship between Christianity and Judaism, or between the Church and the Synagogue. As a starting point of the study, the author tries to examine the meaning of the Pentecost that connects Christianity and Judaism. In this regard, the main question is how to explain the identification of Pentecost as the beginning of the Church. One of the main findings of this study is that the identification of Pentecost as the beginning of the Church is closely related to the celebration of the Seven Weeks in the Jewish tradition as the root of Pentecost. Suppose the Jews view the Sinai event as the beginning of their formation as God's people. In that case, the Feast of Seven Weeks or Pentecost is also an opportunity for them to commemorate the formation of Israel as God's people. Moreover, the article offers an important consideration regarding the dialogue between Christianity and Judaism. The encounter between Christianity and Judaism is not understood merely as an external issue in the context of interreligious dialogue, but rather as a profound matter of Christian identity. If the Church wants to reflect on itself and its own identity, then the Church will automatically speak about Judaism. In Judaism, the Church finds the roots and basis of her identity.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore the true meaning of the Mysterium Paschale, namely Christ's passion, death, and resurrection, based on the liturgical celebration of the Sacred Triduum where the Church solemnly celebrates the greatest mysteries of redemption, namely the special celebrations of the memorial of the Lord, crucified, buried, and risen. This paper is designed as a hermeneutic qualitative research. The theological examination leads the author to some critical findings. First, the Sacred Triduum should be seen as one liturgical celebration that lasts three days. The Sacred Triduum shows an unseparated sequence of liturgical celebrations. Then, the Sacred Triduum regarded as one liturgical celebration reveals in turn a unified theological meaning, namely Mysterium Paschale which consists of the mystery of the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ. By looking at the unity of the celebration of the Sacred Paschal Triduum and of its theological meaning, it is recommended that the faithful may prepare for the celebration thoroughly and be able to participate in the celebration of the Sacred Paschal Triduum as a whole so that they can experience the Easter Mystery as the culmination of the history of our redemption.
