Abstract

The existence of COVID-19 in Indonesia had an impact on economy, including banking sector. However, sharia banking sector didn’t show a positive trend. However, even though sharia banking shows a positive trend, penetration rate of Islamic banking market in Indonesia is still relatively small when compared to conventional banking. That has made government decide to make a merger policy in state-owned sharia banking in hope that it can increase market penetration in Indonesia. This article is written to analyze about opportunities and challenges of merger policy for sharia banking considering the large role of sharia banking in improving country's economy. On the other hand, this policy was implemented in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. This article uses qualitative data analysis with descriptive methods and through a literature study approach. The data analysis focuses on the opportunities and challenges of the sharia banking merger policy by Indonesian’s government. Researchers use secondary data as a source for making articles. Based on research results, the formation of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) as a result of merger provides many opportunities such as increasing assets, expanding market penetration, and operating cost efficiency. Meanwhile, financing and operational risk are two big challenges that need attention. This study contributes as inputs for stakeholders’ decisions in developing Islamic bank and finance

Abstract

In-state revenue, the tax sector is one of the biggest contributors to the country's infrastructure development. Tax contribution to protecting the financial sector. However, lately, the condition of some countries is less stable because of the COVID-19 virus which limits all human activities that have an impact on decreasing tax revenues and economic decline. Thus, the purpose of this study is to analyze the right policies to be implemented by the Indonesian government in optimizing tax revenues in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Descriptive qualitative method is used to directly see the impact and tax regulations set by the governments of the member countries of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC). By looking at the results of the research, the government's policy of providing tax breaks and cuts in Indonesia with an unstable financial condition provides an opportunity for people to make tax payments. This must also be supported by increased public awareness of the importance of taxes and regulations or tax violation fines. The government can also optimize taxes by increasing the accurate and selective supervision of goods that endanger human health so that they do not occur in other expenses caused by goods entering Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

The growing number of Muslim populations promotes significant development on Islamic economic and finance activities called halal industry. While the halal industry is experiencing positive growth in the last four years, the Global Value Chain (GVC) – the chain of system that drives international trades and global economic activities – remains stagnant. The present study aims to explain the position of the Islamic economics and finance in the GVC. This study employs a qualitative-descriptive method with systematic literature review approach. By collecting secondary data using strict-processing stages and content analysis techniques, the author manages to meet the study’s purpose. The findings suggest that the Islamic economics and finance have opportunities to boost countries' participation in the GVC activities by harmonizing halal standardization, enhancing financial infrastructures, and providing various financial products. This study contributes to generate government policies and enterprises' decisions in developing the Islamic economics and finance within the GVC framework. It further provides initial insights and potential topics for future studies.

Abstract

COVID-19 cases in Indonesia have finally reached a second peak amounting to 4 million cases. A number of the death rate was 3.4 percent, yet the recovery rate was 95.9 percent. The Health Ministry of Republic Indonesia through the Covid-19 Task Force has issued guidelines for preventing and controlling Covid-19 to decrease the death rate and increase the recovery rate. According to the guidelines, a person who undergoes quarantine needs to be provided with health care, and social and psychosocial support. This study seeks to identify the influence of external factors including social support, as well as internal factors including patient motivation, and knowledge on the recovery rate of Covid-19 survivors. The research methods use Structural Equation Modelling to determine the indicators that have the most significant influence on the latent variables of social support, knowledge, and motivation for healing Covid-19. Primary data collection was carried out online with a sample of 176 Covid-19 survivors across Indonesia in August 2021. The methods of the Shapiro-Wilk test for normal multivariate show the p-value at 0.00 significantly satisfies the assumption. The result shows that social support has a significant effect on knowledge with a regression coefficient is 0.263. Knowledge has a regression coefficient is 0.645 for the Healing of Covid-19. In conclusion, the higher social support provided by the patient's external parties: family, surrounding environment, and public health center officers, will impact the higher patient's knowledge and healing of Covid-19 disease. Meanwhile, social support has no significant effect on healing actions.
