Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian dengan tujuan: 1). Mengetahui perubahan karakteristik piropilit meliputi intensitas serapan gugus aktif OH- dan luas permukaan. 2). Mengetahui ada tidaknya pengaruh variasi jenis dan masa adsorben terhadap penurunan kadar asam lemak bebas dan bilangan peroksida minyak jelantah. Penelitian ini terdiri atas dua tahap: 1). Pembuatan adsorben yakni piropilit sebelum dan sesudah aktivasi. 2). Adsorpsi asam lemak bebas dan senyawa peroksida minyak jelantah. Analisis hasil penelitian tahap 1) dilakukan dengan Spektrofotometer IR dan ”Surface area analyzer”, tahap 2) dengan metode statistik analisis varian dua arah. Hasil penelitian tahap 1) menunjukkan ada perubahan karakteristik piropilit yakni peningkatan intensitas serapan gugus aktif OH- dan luas permukaan sebelum dan sesudah aktivasi berturut-turut 10-20 % menjadi 20-30 % dan 8,374 m2/g menjadi 11,790 m2/g. Untuk penelitian tahap 2) menunjukkan tidak ada interaksi antara jenis dan masa adsorben sedangkan dari masing-masing variabel ternyata ada pengaruh yang signifikan. Hal ini ditunjukkan bahwa pada masa adsorben 5 gram, sebelum dan sesudah aktivasi asam lemak bebas mengalami penurunan dari 0,6693 % menjadi 0,4131 % dan 0,3731 % sedangkan bilangan peroksida dari 1,1889 meq/Kg menjadi 0,4973 meq/Kg dan 0,4632 meq/Kg

Abstract

Learning materials have been developed which then conducted the study and validation to the expert lecturers and then tested to the students to find out the validity of the feasibility of learning materials in the field of Industrial Chemistry as one of the supporting subjects of Ecopreneurship in Chemistry Department. From the data obtained can be concluded that learning materials in the form of Lesson Plan, Worksheet, and Instrument Rating get very good criteria. These criteria are obtained based on theoretical feasibility and empirical feasibility. Based on these results, learning tools developed can be used as learning tools for Industrial Chemistry courses to support ecopreneurship.

Abstract

Tempurung buah bintaro merupakan limbah biomassa dengan ketersediaan melimpah.Tempung dari buah bintaro (Cerbera maghas) dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai karbon aktif. Karbon aktif terdiri dari 87%-97% karbon sisanya berupa hidrogen, okesigen, sulfur, dan nitrogen serta senyawa-senyawa lain. Aktivasi dalam proses pembuatan karbon aktif bertujuan untuk membuka dan memperbesar luas permukaan karbon. aktivator menggunakan asam kuat yaitu asam fosfat (H3PO4). Sebagai indikator kualitas karbon aktif dilakukan sesuai dengan karakteristik Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) 06-3730-1995. Hasil penelitian menunjukakan karbon aktif tempurung buah bintaro terbaik menggunakan aktivator H3PO4 11% yang sesuai dengan karakteristik Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) 06-3730-1995. Hasil karateristik mulai dari kadar air 0,39%, kadar abu 0,30%, kadar zat menguap 6,98%, kadar karbon terikat 93,12%, daya serap iodium 818,65 mg/g, dan daya serap benzene 2,31%. Sifat kimia dari karbon aktif dilakukan analisis gugus fungsi menggunakan FTIR untuk melihat panjang gelombang gugus fungsi karbon aktif, terlihat pita serapan gugus P=O sekitar gelombang 1710 cm-1 ini aktivator asam fosfat (H3PO4). Sifat fisik dari karbon aktif melihat morfologi menggunakan SEM untuk melihat diameter karbon aktif, hasil minimum 2,664 µm dan maksimum 22,20µm.
