Abstract

Introduction: Acute heart failure is the most common cause in hospitalized patients aged over 65 years and is associated with a high mortality rate. The prevalence of ARF will increase in elderly patients, due to the increase in the elderly population in developed and developing countries, which is increasing rapidly due to increased life expectancy. Acute heart failure is a clinical syndrome characterized by characteristic symptoms such as shortness of breath, swelling of the ankles and fatigue followed by clinical signs such as increased jugular venous pressure, pulmonary rales and peripheral edema caused by structural and functional abnormalities of the heart. Aims: To determine the profile of acute heart failure in the elderly at Dr. M. Djamil Padang 2018-2020. Methods: The type of research used in this study is a descriptive study using a cross sectional design with a retrospective approach using secondary data obtained from medical records. Univariate data analysis with SPSS version 16.0. program. Results: Based on the results of the study, it was found that the majority of patients with acute heart failure were elderly at Dr. M, Djamil Padang in 2018-2020 are 60-74 years old or (45.6%), the most gender is male, namely 35 patients or (61.4%), the most acute etiology is acute coronary syndrome, which is 32 patients or (56.1%) , the hemodynamic profile of acute heart failure was warm and wet type, namely 45 patients or (78.9%), diuretic therapy was 52 people or (91.2%), inotropic therapy was 11 people or (19.3%), vasopressor therapy was 1 person or ( 1.8%), vasodilator therapy as many as 32 people or 56.1%). Conclusion: The most age was 60-74 years, the most sex were male, the most acute etiology was acute coronary syndrome, the most hemodynamic profile was warm and wet, the most used diuretic therapy, less than half used inotropes, very few used vasopressors, half used vasodilators.
