Abstract

Pandan wangi leaves are often used as a flavoring (corrigen saporis) and an aroma (corrigen odoris). The use of pandan wangi leaves as a food preservative was found in several studies. The content of flavonoid compounds, saponins, polyphenols, tannins, and alkaloids is thought to have antibacterial activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the chloroform fraction of ethanolic extract of fragrant pandan leaves as antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The active compounds contained in the chloroform fraction of ethanolic extract of pandan wangi leaves was identified by phytochemical screening test. This research is a true experimental research with posttest only control group design. The antibacterial activity was tested using the agar diffusion method (Test Kirby & Bauer) using the cup - plate technique. The doses used for each extract were 2,000 mg (10mL), 5,000 mg (25mL), and 10,000 mg (50mL). Phytochemical screening test using test tube. The results of the antibacterial activity were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis Test and the Mann-Whitney Test. The results showed that the chloroform fraction of the ethanol extract had antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, but not against Escherichia coli. The chloroform fraction of the ethanol extract in the phytochemical screening test was positive for alkaloids, polyphenols, saponins, and triterpenoids. Abstract

Thrombocytopenia is a condition when the number of platelets is below normal. Several types of platelet blood component transfusions include Thrombocyte Concentrate and Thrombocyte Apheresis. Platelet blood components for transfusion can be obtained from two methods, namely the method of processing Whole Blood (WB) and the apheresis method. Thrombocyte Concentrate Transfusion and Thrombocyte Apheresis Transfusion are forms of using blood components as a supportive measure to increase the platelet count of thrombocytopenic patients. This study aims to determine the difference in platelet count after Thrombocyte Concentrate and Thrombocyte Apheresis transfusions in thrombocytopenic patients. The research method used is Analytical Descriptive with a Cross Sectional research design. The population in this study were thrombocytopenia patients, totaling 66 patients. The samples used in this study were 28 samples of thrombocytopenic patients, consisting of 14 patients receiving Thrombocyte Concentrate transfusions and 14 patients receiving Thrombocyte Apheresis transfusions which were obtained using the Purposive Sampling technique. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the independent t test. The results of this study indicated that the difference in platelet count after Thrombocyte Apheresis transfusion was higher than after Thrombocyte Concentrate transfusion. The average increase in platelet count after Thrombocyte Apheresis transfusion was 49,286/µl while in Thrombocyte Concentrate transfusion it was 20,143/µl.
