Abstract

Abstract

Red fruit (Pandanus conoideus Lam.) Is an endemic plant that grows in the Papua region. Based on previous research, red fruit contains several active compounds with a fairly high level, including carotenoids, tocopherol, beta-carotene, α tocopherol, and fatty acids such as oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, and dexoic acid. The high tocopherol content in red fruit has antioxidant activity. This study aims to determine the antioxidant capacity of the ethanol extract of red fruit (Pandanus conoideus Lam.) Using the FRAP method. Three replications of red fruit ethanol extract were measured for antioxidant capacity using standard α-tocopherol solution in a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a maximum wavelength of 757 nm. The results showed that the sample of red fruit ethanol extract (Pandanus conoideus Lam.) Had total antioxidant activity with an activity of 1,392 x 10-3 g ATE / g extract.

Abstract

Lifestyle changes, including eating patterns, have caused traditional diets to shift to western diets such as fast foods that contain lots of calories, fat, and cholesterol. One of the plants that are often used by the community as medicine is Gedi (Abelmoschus Manihot (L.) Medik). Gedi (Abelmoschus Manihot (L.) Medik) leaves are empirically used to treat kidney pain, reduce cholesterol, and ulcers. Gedi (Abelmoschus Manihot (L.) Medik) leaves contain compounds that have the efficacy of flavonoids that can be used as cholesterol-lowering agents. This study aims to determine the anti-cholesterol activity of Gedi leaf extract (Abelmoschus Manihot (L.) Medik) in vitro and determine the EC50 value. Samples were extracted by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent with 9% extract extraction obtained. The extract obtained was analyzed anticolesterol activity by the Lieberman-Burchard method of anhydrous acetic acid and concentrated sulfuric acid using UV-Vis spectrophotometer measurements with a maximum wavelength of 666.97 nm. Ethanol extract of gedi leaves (Abelmoschus Manihot (L.) Medik) has anti-cholesterol activity in vitro. EC50 value of gedi leaf extract (Abelmoschus Manihot (L.) Medik) that is equal to 5007.5 ppm. Research conclusions that at a concentration of 5007.5 ppm can reduce 50% of initial cholesterol. It is recommended to use gedi leaf ethanol extract as medical therapy.

Abstract

Healthy skin should have a flat surface, the texture is soft, elastic, and have the same skin color. Skin color is determined by the size, number and distribution of melanin pigment. Pigment brownish pigment melanin is to protect the skin from UV light scattering. An enzyme that plays a role in this browning reaction is tyrosinase. Browning reaction tyrosinase inhibitor can be inhibited by an enzymatic by an enzymatic reaction in the form of ions or molecules called tyrosinase. Inhibition of tyrosinase is one way to prevent skin hyperpigmentation. Tyrosinase enzyme catalyzes two main reactions in the biosynthesis of melanin, the hydroxylation of L-tyrosin into L-dopa and the oxidation of L-dopa becomes dopakuinon. Polyphenol compounds (Flavonoids) the group is basically have the effect cant inhibit melanogenesis as a tyrosinase inhibitor. Kecombrang a wild plant that has many benefits one of them as a source of natural antioxidants. Based on this research is conducted on the fruit skin kecombrang to see the activity of the enzyme tyrosinase barriers and whether rind kecombrang can inhibit tyrosinase enzyme and with the aim to utilize natural materials and waste that can inhibit the enzyme tyrosinase and can be used as a skin whitheter.Research iniated by the extraction of fruit skins kecombrang using etanol. Flavonid content test on the sample using Mg powder and HCl p, the results show a color change from dark brown to yellow. So positive it contains flavonoids. Measurements were contucted on a maximum wavelength of 478,003 nm, using the substrate L-tyrosine and the enzyme tyrosinase. Using comparators hidroquinon. Of the results of this study concluded that kecombrang fruit peel ectract at a concentration of 2 mg/mL could inhibit amounted to 55,92% and a concentration of 2,5 mg/mL could inhibit amounted to 56,58%.
