Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian dengan judul “Pengembangan Keterampilan Berpikir Kritis Siswa SMA pada Topik Teori Domain Elektron melalui Simulasi Interaktif PhET Molecule Shapes” dilakukan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa SMA melalui penggunaan simulasi interaktif PhET MS versi 1.05 pada topik teori domain elektron. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah quasi experiment. Subyek penelitian terdiri atas 64 siswa kelas X IPA di salah satu SMA Negeri di Kota Bandung. Data yang diperoleh berupa hasil tes tertulis dan angket terhadap siswa, serta hasil wawancara terhadap guru kimia. Analisis data penelitian dilakukan melalui uji statistik menggunakan independent-sample t-test atau Uji Mann-Whitney dengan taraf kepercayaan 95%. Hasil analisis signifikansi menunjukkan bahwa PhET MS dapat meningkatkan penguasaan sebagian indikator keterampilan berpikir kritis. Peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa terjadi pada indikator membuat induksi dan mempertimbangkan hasil induksi (N-gain: 45,54 %), serta menganalisis argumen (N-gain: 57,03 %). Baik guru maupun siswa memberikan tanggapan yang positif mengenai penggunaan PhET MS dalam pembelajaran.Kata kunci:   keterampilan berpikir kritis, PhET Molecule Shapes, teori domain elektron, simulasi interaktif

Quasi experiment method was used in this research, and involved 64 students from one of public senior high school in Bandung. The data collected were in a form of students’ test and questionnaire results and teachers interview. Data were analyzed by statistics analysis using independent-sample t-test or Mann-Whitney test (95 % level of significance). The results showed that PhET MS was able to improve several critical thinking indicators. The critical thinking indicators of induction and judging induction (N-gain: 45,54 %) and analyze arguments (N-gain: 57,03 %) were improved. Furthermore, both teacher and students responded positively to the use of PhET MS.

Abstract

Microalgae are well-recognized by many researchers working on bioenergy resources due to its capability to produce high amounts of lipids as biodiesel precursors. Diatoms as a group of microalgae that specifically categorized by their silica valve could be more attractive to the researchers because in addition to high-lipid content, their silica features can be also utilized for wider applications, or used for diatoms bioproduct purification. Identification of some diatom species, such as the diatom genus Chaetoceros, as an initial step in diatom studies were difficult to accurately perform because of the unique morphology of silica frustules. Meanwhile, some candidate universal genetic markers of microalgae could also be used for the identification of diatoms with brittle frustules. In this research, we aimed to identify isolate CBO of tropical marine Chaetoceros CBO strain using morphological and genetic approaches. The isolate CBO of Chaetoceros sp. CBO was successfully obtained from sea region of Bokor Island, Kepulauan Seribu, Jakarta, and cultivated in our laboratory as culture stock for further use. Better resolution of the Chaetoceros CBO identification until species level was shown by genetic analysis toward two proposed gene markers for microalgae (rbcL-3P and V4 region of 18S rDNA) rather than by morphological. Specific DNA region for this specimen was found in V4 region of 18S rDNA genetic marker that could be recognized by MspA1I restriction enzyme. Hence, the RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism) method could be also used as an initial diagnostic tool for identification of this tropical marine Chaetoceros dayaensis CBO and for stock culture labelling purposes.
