Abstract

The high level of public belief and trust in the madeung tradition as a treatment for postpartum mothers is still widely found in traditional Acehnese communities, especially the Raja Ubit family – an indigenous community in Blang Tripa. Postpartum mothers are required to practice the madeung tradition in the form of restrictions on consuming certain types of food, in which this tradition must be carried out for 44 days. The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of the practice of the madeung tradition on the nutritional status of postpartum mothers. This study applied a descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The number of respondents in this study was 20 people. The results of the chi-squared test, Fisher’s exact test, and cross-tabulation between the nutritional status of postpartum mothers and the practice of the madeung tradition indicated the p-value of 0.545 (> 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is no significant influence between the nutritional status of postpartum mothers and the practice of the madeung tradition. Health officers from Alue Rambot Health Center are expected to run education programs for pregnant women about the good practice of the madeung tradition after the childbirth process based on health principles. Keywords: Madeung Tradition, Nutritional Status, Postpartum Mothers.

Abstract

Visceral fat levels contribute to obesity. Visceral fat is fat accumulation in fatty tissue around intra-abdominal organs or commonly referred to as central obesity. The higher the Body Mass Index, the percentage of fat mass and visceral fat will increase. Obesity can have an impact on insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome disorders and degenerative diseases. This study aims to determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and visceral fat. This study uses a cross-sectional design and descriptive-analytic, looking for the relationship between body mass index and visceral fat level. The result shows about 53,6% and 25% of overweight respondents with high and very high visceral fat levels. There is a relationship between body mass index and visceral fat level with p-value obtained is 0,00 (p-value < 0,05). It means that there is a risk of obesity and metabolic syndrome disorders. Prevention efforts are needed by increasing physical activity, consumption of vegetables and fruit, and routine general checks up.

Abstract

The laboratory can act as its function if it is managed properly so that it contributes to the effectiveness of students in understanding a lesson. The purpose of the study was to determine the correlation between laboratory management and students' ability to monitor nutritional status. This study uses quantitative research methods with correlational analysis using a Likert scale. The research locus is the Nutrition Laboratory of the Faculty of Public Health, Teuku Umar University. The sample used was a total sampling of a population of 65 students majoring in Nutrition who took the nutritional status monitoring course in 2022. The data were analyzed using a questionnaire analysis test and an analysis of the student's ability to monitor nutritional status. To test the truth of the hypothesis, a computerized rank spearmen correlation test was used with the help of SPSS software version 25. The results showed that 94% of students thought that the laboratory management activities of the Faculty of Public Health, Teuku Umar University were very good. Almost all nutrition students have very high scores (92%) while the rest have high scores (1%), moderate scores (5%), and low scores (2%). Based on the spearmen rank test, a significance value of (0.000) < alpha (0.05) was obtained with a correlation coefficient of 0.442. In conclusion, there is a correlation between laboratory management and the ability of students to monitor nutritional status with a currently level of relationship strength.
