Abstract

ABSTRACTSuccessful castor (Ricinus communis L.) cropping depends on the reliability of production technique. Branching is a useful agronomic trait because infloresence developed at each branch’s terminal. Pruning is considered as an important technique for branching stimulation. This study attempted to elucidate the effect of main stem pruning on the yield of Beaq Amor local variety of castor (Ricinus communis L.) with short cultivation system. The experiment was conducted on dry land area of Amor-Amor, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara during February-July 2011 and was arranged in a single-factor randomized complete block design with three replications. The treatments were four types of pruning (i.e. no pruning, main stem pruning at 30 days after planting, 45 days after planting, and 60 days after planting). The results showed that the effect of pruning was significant on dry seed yield and was not significant on kernel oil content. Pruning at 30 days old and 45 days old plant yielded in the highest dry seed weight (374.9-387.8 g tree-1 or 943.0-974.3 kg ha-1) with oil content of 62.2%.Keywords: branching, canopy, dry seed, Ricinus communis L.

Abstract

Lettuce and Moringa are recently popular vegetable crops because their demand improves significantly, and their development lead to dry land because its potencial in Indonesia is still high.  The use of dry land should be followed by applying inter cropping technique in order to make plant micro climate becomes more favourable. In addition, low soil fertility and intensive ussage of inorganic fertilizers makes the application of organic fertilizers imperative. The objective of the research is to investigate the type of organic fertilizer giving high yield of lettuce and moringa cultivated using inter cropping technique in dry land. The results showed that the organic fertilizers applied improved the plant growth and yield, and also improved the land equivalent ratio (LER).  The highest LER was showed by apllication of Organox, followed by  Bio Extrim and Biota Plus, and the lowest one showed by without organic fertilizer application.

Abstract

The use of high doses of chemical fertilizers in the production of chili (Capsicum annuum L.) has an adverse impact on the environment, especially in dryland. This study aimed to examine the role of cow manure (PKS), goat manure (PKK), chicken manure (PKA), or a combination of two manures in reducing 25% of the requirement for chemical fertilizer on chili plants. One experiment was carried out in the dryland of Gumantar Village, North Lombok Regency, from May to October 2021. Phonska NPK (15-15-15) chemical fertilizer (PK) at a 1,200 kg/ha dose was used as a control. The treatments tested were 75% PK+PKS, 75% PK+PKK, 75% PK+PKA, 75% PK+PKS+PKK, 75% PK+PKS+PKA and 75% PK+PKK+PKA. The dose of manure used in each treatment was 20 tons/ha. All treatments were repeated three times and arranged in a randomized block design. The results showed that the treatment of manure, especially goat manure and chicken manure, increased the available phosphate (P) in the soil. The growth and yield of chili plants were not significantly different in all treatments, which means that manure could replace the role of 25% of the chemical fertilizer used. These results indicate that manure in the long term can reduce the need for chemical fertilizers to produce chili in dryland. Key words: chili; dryland; manure; chemical fertilizer; nutrition

Abstract

JJatropha curcas L. in the Amor-Amor, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara have been grown and developed long ago. It was just as fences of land, yards, and roads, and used as a source of traditional medicine but not as alternative energy sources and as a crop yield. Even if Jatropha seed oil can be used as an energy source family. No commercialize and intensively cultivation, such as the use of high yielding varieties, planting distance, fertilizing and other maintenance, and intercropping with food crops. Another problem faced by farmer groups members is difficult to get fertilizers, proper cultivation techniques, the difficulty of obtaining diesel fuel to operate the water bore-pumps for irrigation purposes. Through science and technology communication activities (Ipteks) was expected to formed the Energy Independent Village. This Ipteks such as counselling, training, and demonstrations conducted by the research team has been able to provide rationalization and true understanding to the farmer groups on aspects of Jatropha as an alternative source of fuel.  Understanding includes benefits of crop as a source of fuel, good cultivation techniques, the potential economic and environmental impact, plant waste management and Jatropha seed oil processing and other benefits plant. Counselling and training undertaken has been able to generate interest and need for farmers to adopt the technology introduced. In addition, education and training was provided to farmers has also empowered them, by involving farmer participatory on any activities performed. Farmer’s empowerment has successes. It was at the phase awareness, interest, and evaluation of the adoption process.

Abstract

The main obstacle faced in the development of seasonal crops on dryland is the availability of water and low soil fertility. As a result, the cropping index (IP) of dryland is very low because crops are grown in the rainy season only. The use of inorganic fertilizers is also very high in order to obtain adequate crop yields. Such practices can result in a reduction in the organic carbon content in the soil in the long term. Soil fertility can be maintained if the soil contains a lot of organic carbon. Organic carbon in the soil can increase soil fertility by preventing nutrient loss, increasing soil physical stability, increasing the soil's ability to retain water and increasing the consortium of microorganisms. An introduction of sustainable agriculture technology was carried out to provide understanding to farmers in the dryland of Gumantar Village, North Lombok Regency (KLU) about the importance of sustainable agriculture in order to maintain soil fertility and land productivity. The activity was carried out by making a demonstration plot of aerobic composting of mungbean waste and then followed by an in-situ test of the benefits of compost for chili plants. As a comparison, plots were made for planting chili plants without compost treatment. Aerobic composting was done by using BeKa decomposer (PT. Indo Acidatama Tbk). Several formal and informal meetings were held with farmers to increase their understanding of sustainable agriculture. The results of the activities indicated that the target farmers did not understand at all about sustainable agriculture. The good news was that the farmers passionate about understanding the benefits of sustainable agriculture. At the end, the participants understanding and beliefs about sustainable agriculture improved after seeing the yields of chili plants in the compost treatment which were much higher than those without compost treatment.

Abstract

Gumantar Village, Kayangan District in North Lombok Regency, has a reasonably large area of ​​dry sandy land. This dryland has the potential to be developed as a cayenne pepper-producing area in the off-season (rainy season) because the possibility of waterlogging is very low. However, very few farmers grow cayenne pepper outside of the season in Gumantar Village, and the failure rate due to pests and diseases is very high. This extension aimed to motivate farmers to grow cayenne pepper out of season by providing knowledge on cultivation procedures and techniques for managing plant pests and diseases. The method used was by meeting, discussion, and plot demonstration. Evaluation activities were carried out using two methods, namely ex-ante and summative. Overall, it can be said that the extension activities had a positive impact on the participants, as indicated by the high motivation of farmers to grow cayenne pepper out of season. Participants' satisfaction with the presented materials, along with the visualization results of the demonstration plot, were the main keys to the success of the extension.

Abstract

Gerakan masyarakat hidup sehat (GERMAS) merupakan program pemerintah yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas hidup manusia melalui kesadaran, kemauan dan kemampuan berperilaku sehat. Salah satu fokus kegiatan GERMAS adalah meningkatkan konsumsi buah dan sayur. Buah dan sayur merupakan produk hortikultura yang segar sehingga membutuhkan air yang banyak untuk memproduksinya. Desa Gumantar di Kabupaten Lombok Utara yang akan dijadikan Kawasan Pengembangan Tanaman Hortikultura, lahannya kebanyakan kering dan berpasir sehingga biaya produksi, khususnya air menjadi mahal. Oleh karena itu efisiensi penggunaan air harus ditingkatkan. Salah satu cara untuk meningkatkan efisiensi penggunaan air di lahan kering pasiran adalah dengan meningkatkan kandungan bahan organik tanah. Sumber bahan organik cukup berlimpah tersedia di wilayah tersebut, seperti biomassa tanaman jagung, kacang hijau, kacang tanah, melon, dan kotoran ternak. Permasalahannya petani belum memiliki pengetahuan dan teknologi untuk merubah secara cepat biomassa tanaman dan kotoran ternak menjadi bahan organik. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah memberikan pengetahuan dan teknologi tentang penggunaan BioCompound untuk mempercepat proses dekomposisi limbah pertanian menjadi kompos untuk selanjutnya dijadikan bahan organik tanah. Di masa yang akan datang masyarakat desa Gumantar diharapkan menjadi lebih sehat karena mengonsumsi banyak buah dan sayur dengan terjadinya efisiensi dalam biaya produksi.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine growth and yield of red chili (Capsicum annum L.) in dryland intercropped with legumes at different planting times. A field experiment was conducted from May to September 2022 in Amor-Amor Hamlet, Gumantar Village, Kayangan District, North Lombok Regency. There were six intercropping treatments and three monoculture treatments tested. The treatments were: intercropping chili with groundnut or with mungbean planted or inserted at the same time, one week and three weeks after planting (WAP) the chili. The monoculture treatments were chili, groundnut and mungbean. The treatments were arranged in a Randomized Block Design with three replications. The results showed that intercropping chili with mungbean and groundnut at various planting times affected the growth and yield of chili. The yield of chili increased with the presence of groundnut planted simultaneously and with mungbean planted three weeks after chili. Meanwhile, there was a decrease in the yield of groundnut and mungbean as a result of intercropping treatment.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan dan hasil dua varietas cabai rawit (Capsicum frutescens L.) yang ditanam di luar musim dengan perlakuan pupuk daun. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok Faktorial dengan tiga ulangan dan terdiri dari dua faktor perlakuan, yaitu varietas tanaman cabai (V) dan pupuk daun (P). Terdapat dua varietas tanaman cabai rawit yang diuji, yaitu Sret dan Dewata 43. Sementara itu, pupuk daun terdiri atas tiga aras, yaitu tanpa pupuk daun, POMI dan Bayfolan. Data hasil percobaan dianalisis menggunakan analysis of variance (Anova) pada taraf nyata 5%. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) jika terjadi interaksi antara faktor dan jika masing-masing faktor tidak berinteraksi, maka diuji lanjut dengan uji beda nyata jujur (BNJ). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hanya terdapat interaksi antara perlakuan varietas dan perlakuan pupuk daun pada parameter berat buah per petak. Berat buah per petak tertinggi dihasilkan oleh varietas Dewata 43 dengan perlakuan pupuk daun POMI. Sementara itu, pertumbuhan tanaman cabai hanya dipengaruhi oleh varietas, pengaruh varietas Sret lebih baik dibandingkan varietas Dewata 43.
