Abstract

Two new receptors S2 and S6 were designed and synthesized based on benzimidazole and azo-benzimidazole synthesized from vanillin for the colorimetric detection of fluoride ion. The presence of nitro group in S2 and azo in S6 makes –OH proton (binding site) acidic and therefore it could deprotonate with addition of basic anion such as fluoride. Hydroxyl (–OH) functionality which detects basic fluoride ions via hydrogen-bonding mechanism wich is mechanism involved in the color change of receptor R2 and R6, its mean that initial hydrogen bond formation of F− ion with –OH group.

Abstract

A new chemosensor S8 compound from the flavon group that has been successfully synthesized. Test its ability as a chemosensor for F- anion, providing positive results that it can recognize F- anion with response to an increase in fluorescent solution. Titration of S8 solution in DMSO solvents was carried out with F- anion at various concentrations and then measurements were made on fluorometry instruments. The fluorescent titration emission spectrum shows that the S8-Fˉ host-guest interaction quantitatively in the form of LOD and kass. LOD and Kass values are 6.43 × 10ˉ4 M and 2 × 106 Mˉ1, respectively.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the effect of heteroatom replacement on benzimidazole derivative chemosensor compounds on the ability to form hydrogen bonds with anions. In this case, the N heteroatom in the benzimidazole derivative sensor compound (S1) is replaced with the O heteroatom to become a benzoxazole derivative sensor compound (S3). Calculating the energy of the molecules involved in the electron level gives the following results: replacing heteroatoms with more electronegative atoms increases the HOMO energy of the sensor molecules, making the sensor more reactive to anions and strengthening the binding of the sensor with cyanide anions.

Flavone compounds present as secondary metabolites in many plants have beneficial phytochemical activity. Isolation of flavones from various parts of plants has been widely carried out, but the synthesis pathway is another way to obtain higher yields.
