Abstract

H. opuntia is one of the green algae that distributes sufficiently dominant at the coastal of West Aceh. This research aims to screen the green algae H. opuntia that is potentia as an antioxidant agent. Extraction method in this research used mono maceration. The solvents that are used including ethanol (polar), ethyl acetate (semi-polar), and n-hexane (non-polar). With those three solvents it was obtained three crude extracts including ethanol crude extract, ethyl acetate crude extract, and n-hexane crude extract. Subsequently, the crude extracts were used to conduct the assay including phytochemical assay and the antioxidant activity with DPPH method. The results of phytochemical assay showed that ethanol crude extract of H. opuntia was detected to have active compounds including alkaloids, flavonoid, phenol, tannin, and steroids whereas ethyl acetate extract of H. opuntia was detected to contain phenol compound. Total phenol content of ethanolic extract of H. opuntia = 2460.25 mg GAE/g and ethyl acetate extract = 972.68 mg GAE/g. Antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract has IC50 value = 143.63 mg/L whereas ethyl acetate extract has IC50 value = 75.51 mg/L with Vitamin C as a positive control. This results show that extract of H. opuntia possesses a vital potency as an antioxidant agent that give value added in pharmacy industries.

Abstract

Cumi-cumi memiliki kantung tinta yang mengandung melanin dalam bentuk melanoprotein, asam glutamat dan asam aspartat yang  memberikan rasa sedap dan gurih. Tinta cumi digunakan sebagai pewarna hitam alami dan termasuk limbah yang belum dimanfaatkan secara maksimal.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan persentase fortifikasi tinta cumi-cumi pada cup cake berdasarkan tingkat kesukaan panelis. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimental dengan 5 perlakuan penambahan tinta cumi-cumi (0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, dan 2%) berdasarkan berat tepung terigu. Parameter yang diamati dalam penelitian adalah rendemen tinta cumi-cumi, tingkat kesukaan (uji hedonik) terhadap karakteristik kenampakan, aroma, tekstur dan rasa cup cake, kadar air, abu, protein dan lemak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semua perlakuan penambahan tinta cumi-cumi masih disukai. Perlakuan penambahan tinta cumi-cumi 1,5% merupakan perlakuan yang lebih disukai panelis dibandingkan perlakuan lainnya, dengan karakteristik kenampakan 6,4±1,73, aroma 7,3±1,49, tekstur 7,3±2,08 (disukai), rasa 8,4±1,47 (sangat disukai) dan nilai  serta dengan kadar air 32,77%; abu 1,76%, protein 11,74% dan lemak 18,20%

Abstract

West Aceh Region has Nypa fruticans mangrove community distributed almost ±100 Ha. N.  fruticans  leaves have been used as traditional cigarette paper. The objective of this study was to explore bioactive compound of  N. fruticans from the coast of West Aceh as antioxidant. The extraction used 3 solvents including methanol (polar), etyl acetate (semi polar), and n-hexane (non polar). The result showed the methanol extract contained  bioactive compound content such as phenolic, flavonoid, tannin, saponin, and steroid while the etyl acetate extract comprised phenolic, tannin, and steroid. Moreover, n-hexane extract only had steroid compound. The result of antioxidant activit assay showed etyl acetate extract had IC50 value 8.81 µg/mL, methanol extract had IC50 value 9.31 µg/mL and n-hexane extract was 238.47 µg/mL with ascorbic acid as positive control. It is indicated the presence of phenolic, flavonoid, tannin, and saponin in the ethyl acetate extract play the role as antioxidant.

Abstract

Dessiccation factors is affecting to photosynthesis response in macroalgae leaf exposed to light of the environment. Hypothesis of this research is macroalgae species scattered in upper zone having high tolerance against dessiccation. This research aims to analyzing macroalgae spesies productivity with using PAM fluorometer. Some species of seaweed was collected like Ulva pertusa, Polyopes affinis, Gloiopeltis furcata, Sargassum thunbergiii and Saccharina japonica. Seawed sampling is based on it dominance in the rocky intertidal zone which includes upper, middle and lower zone. Result of the study show Ulva pertusa less tolerance to dessiccation stress and rarely it can growth in rocky intertidal zone. Nevertheless, species of Polyopes affinis, Gloipertis furcata, Sargassum thunbergii and Saccharina japonica have been gradually increased which it show ability to dessiccation stress from exposure to free air.

Abstract

The strategy of productivity improvement of sustanable small-scale capture fisheries in West Aceh, Aceh Province was urgent for fisheries management. This research have been conducted for three months to begin from May until  July 2018. The aims of this study is to determine factors that affected Productivity improvment of sustanable small-scale capture fisheries and to develop strategies for improving productivity of sustanable small-scale capture fisheries in Aceh Barat, Aceh Province. The method used is a survey and study of literature. In addition to use a method of interview to social respondents. Data analysis methods are linear regression, descriptive and SWOT analysis. Results showed factors affected productivity of sustanable small-scale capture fisheries in Aceh Barat is capital, number of labour and the kinds of cpture boat.  While other factors such as the trip, age and level of college are  no effect. The strategy of increasing the productivity of sustanable small-scale fisheries in improving economy of fishermen in Aceh Barat district that can be applied: give subsidy, catching fleet and fishing and fishing equipment, financial management training, and financial institusional to provide alternative working for small-scale fisheries

Abstract

Nowadays, a lot of research about the treatment a safe and environmentally sound which uses natural ingredients, one of which seaweed. In the last decade, a wide variety of structures is very unique bioactive compounds from algae isolates have been isolated. But, the resource utilization of bioactive compound from algae has not been done. This study aimed to test the ability of marine macroalgae P. australis Hauck in producing antibacterial compounds Vibrio harveryi. The existence of macroalgae P. australis antibacterial producer is expected to decrease the number of pathogenic bacteria, so as to decrease the likelihood of developing a disease that attacks fish. The research was conducted in two laboratories, the Laboratory of Biological MIPA Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh and Brackish Water Aquaculture Institute (BBAP) Batee Ujong, Aceh Besar. Marine macroalgae taken from the waters around Labuhan Haji South Aceh District. The location was selected because of macroalgae in the area are plentiful because the waters are clean. Based on phytochemical test on  P. australis extract containing flavonoids, tannins and saponins. The results of measurements of inhibition zone formed in each treatment obtained the largest inhibition zone at 12:55 mm on a 80% concentration of the extract. While the smallest inhibitory zone at 6:19 mm at a concentration of 100%. Thus, inhibition zone on extracts of P. australis against V. harveyi bacteria at a concentration of 80% is the optimum inhibition of the extract.

Abstract

We focused on socio-economic aspect to West of Aceh’s Fishermen. The research aims to analyze the socio-economical domain of Tuna (Thunnus sp) in fisheries management based ecosystem approach to fisheries management (Case study at PPI Ujong Baroh). The study was conducted from January – March 2016 that is located at PPI Ujong Baroh West of Aceh. The sampling method is purposive sampling through depth interview and questionnaire. Data analysis method is flag modeling techniques with the approach Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA). The result shown that the assessment to indicate the fisheries conflict and the utilization of indigenous knowledge were categorized good condition because there is local institution (lembaga laot) that managed and arranged regulations of fisheries management in West of Aceh. This local institution was lead by Panglima Laot. Moreover, the assesment of stakeholder participation was categorized moderate condition. The participation of stakeholder has not ran yet effectively in Tuna fisheries management at West of Aceh. For economical domain shown that income of fisheries household and saving ratio were categorized bad conditions. Most fishermen possess debt to require life necessity before fishing. In other side, Tuna fisheries depend on season and mostly wives also don’t have sufficient knowledge to increase their income through fish processing. Moreover, the asset ownership has shown “medium” condition. According to fishermen, their productive asset stil likely to constant if we compared in the previous year.

Abstract

Holothuroidea as known as sea cucumber is member of the echinoderm which had important economical value due to highly nutrition and protein compound hance the cultivation has been the profitable bussiness in the following days. However, the transport mechanism became turbulent in the pole water and would affect the organism contain in the preliminary study was conducted to identify the adaptation behavior Holothuria edulis affected by the turbulence effect in laboratory scale. This mini research was aimed to assess tentacles anymore and became default size. Turbulence stress was designed on various interval namely 1, 2, 4, 16 and 32 minutes and each interval was repeated three times. The results analysed by ANOVA and Duncan  post hoc test shown that there was able the variation and significant difference on each recovery time due to various turbulent stress trigging. Analysis of regression also shown high correlation relatively between these two parameters (R=0.784 ; α = 0.95). in order to predict maximum time closely same and more than two hours represented that it  had no longer life or called lethal time. The maximum tolerant time of turbulence was predicted for 19,46 hours by equation y = 6,04x +146.9 second. In conclucion, the  longer of stress time conducted the longer periods H. edulis need to recover to default size and to perform its metabolism.

Abstract

Seaweeds are marine macro algae that can be found attach to the bottom shallow coastal waters. There are three major groups of seaweeds namely brown algae (Phaeophyta), red (Rhodophyta) and green (Chlorophyta). Padina australis is one of brown algae which mostly found in the West-South of Aceh coastal Area.  Seaweed contains bioactive compound which can serve as a defense from ultraviolet radiation that caused hyperpigmentation effect The purpose of this study is to analyse the tyrosinase inhibitory activity of P. australis extract from West-South Aceh. The results shown that the methanol extract of P. australis possess phytochemical properties such as flavonoids, tannin and saponin. tyrosinase inhibitory activity of P. australis  methanol extract  is the best extract which can be inhibit monophenolase with  IC50 : 293.520 µg/ml and IC50 = 13.571.067 µg/ml in diphenolase pathway with kojic acid as positive control. Moreover, chloroform and n-hexane extract have no activity of tyrosinase inhibitor. Therefore, new finding of tyrosinase inhibitor agent from marine macroalgae P. australis give the fruitfull information for cosmeceutical industry. P. australis parts could be complementary each other in providing the raw material of cosmetic product.

Abstract

Fisheries production in West of Aceh was still insufficient to provide the local community consumption. However, fisheries resources in  West of Aceh water  are abundant. But utilization of fisheries particularly skipjack tuna (cakalang) hasn’t been yet optimalized. This aiming to analyse the status of sustainablity of skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis) fisheries in West of Aceh water.  The study was conducted in November to Desember 2012 at the Fish Landing  Port of  Kuala Bubon  and Fish Landing Bases (PPI) Ujong Baroh. The result shown that sustainability index value by using multidimensional scaling is 88,42 with stress value is  0.12 and coefisien of determination (R2) is 0,95 or 95%. Such index value show that sustainablity of skipjack resources were good status. It means that multidimensional of skipjack stock were still paid attention in fisheries management sustainable. Beside that, it shown from water condition and fishing gears were still support viability of such comodity.
