Abstract

A taxonomic survey had been done for inventarization of Pteridophytes plants species at The University of Sriwijaya campus area, at April 2011. It was found 30 species that categorized in 11 family, where 24 of those species are herb life-form and 6 of them were bush fern; 27 species were life as terrestrial plants and 3 of them were swampy fern. Gleichenia linearis is the common species found as terrestrial fern, Davalia denticulate common for epiphyte, and Salvinia natans was often found as hydrophytes. Keywords: pteridophytes, species, family, terrestrial, swampy, epiphytes, hydrophytes

Abstract

Point Quarter Method is a plant community structure measurement procedure. The technique is base on measurement of distance of four plants or trees in every  quarter  that is made by four space in the cross line sampling field studies. In forest sampling, point centered quarter methods is considered as the efficient, reliable and accurate data,  not only for mean distance and density, but for frequency and dominance of species. So it is important to try wether these method ould be applicated to animal, especially crab. These method was applicated for crab population in Padang Beach at December 22nd, 2014.  Ten points quartered were made and the distance of every Ocypode sp crab burrow was counted by ruler. Mean distance of crabs burrow gained by divided of total number of quarter (20) with  mean distance of every burrow to the point. Density per hectare is 10,000 m divided by quadratic of mean distance. Mean distance of burrow to points were counted and prediction of population per hectare could be found. In these case, mean distance was: 0.41 m and crab population  is :59,488.34 individu per hectare. Compared to other species , eg Scylla serrata, its population is bigger, eventhough the condition of beach is polluted and wastedKeywords: point centered quarter method, Ocypode sp, density

Abstract

An invesgation about size and colour of Marchantia sp moss, had been done in Cughup Embun water fall, Pagar Alam, South Sumatera, Indonesia at November 9th, 2014(end of drough season). The aim was to know wether the distance from water fall (air and soil moisture) should effect the size and colour of those moss. Twenty meters sistematically distance in 4 points location  from above slope to water fall pond; 5, 25, 45, 65 and 85 m were considered for Marchantia sp sampling. Body size, colour and existing of Sporangium were noted. It is found that the size of moss body gradually bigger from 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.3  and 1.3 cm. Colour of moss change An from pale brown, pale green, green and deep green. Amount  of archegoniopore seems exist in many number at 45 m distance from above ground. Keywords: Marchantia sp, moisture, archegoniopore, antheridiopore.

Abstract

An observation about beach crab (Scopimera sp) population, their feeding behaviour and predator bird had been done at October 9 th, 2014 in Pantai Pasir Padi, Eastern Bangka Island beach, near Pangkal Pinang town. Ten 1 meter square plots were put at sandy beach and number of Scopimera sp be counted by the number of their hole nest home. Their feeding behaviour observed directly by eye-watching and video making. The threatening of bird predator was noted too.  The investigation find out that the mean of crabs population is 17 individu/m2 .  They come out from home hole for feeding around by sieving wet sand that be taken by front legs, obsorb organic nutrious material by mouth and kick residual sand to behind legs, move it as a small sand ball to right of left back side.  Production of small ball sand were about 15 - 30 balls /per minute. For making the nest hole, bigger sand ball were produced about 7 – 9 ball/minute; ball colour is same with under layer beach sand; quite grey. The crabs run instinctivey fast, when the threat come from their natural enemy, predator bird, Actitis hypoleucos.  Bird searching behaviour look adapted to the fast run of crab.

Abstract

The research about potential test of water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) in order of phytoremediation of petroleum liquid waste had been done during June untill December 2012 at Microbiology Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, The University of Sriwijaya, Indonesia. Completely Randomized Design was used in the experiment while the concentration of liquid waste as treatment were: 0, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75 %. Each treatment were replicated 4 times. Three parameter was measured; Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) reduction percentage, efficiency of phytoremediation and number of tillers. Regression analisys were used for the data and two of parameters show the hormesis phenomena, were; efficency of phytoremediation and number of tillers. The highest  peak effect of treatment for efficiency of phytoremediation and number of tillers was on 45 %. TPH reduction percentage was the only one parameter that shows linier regression Keywords hormesis, Pistia stratiotes, TPH, phytoremediation, tiller

Abstract

The Research of Vegetation Analysis on Reclamation Area of Coal Mine of PT. Bukit Asam Tanjung Enim, South Sumatera was aimed to determine the types of vegetation that composing reclamation area was found in PT. Bukit Asam in terms of structure and composition. The research has been done in November until Desember 2014, in four reclamation area at PT. Bukit Asam, namely the area of reclaimed the Muara Tiga Besar Selatan, Mahayung, Klawas Timur, and the Muara Tiga Selatan having different strata age. the vegetation data includes rate of growth seedlings, saplings, poles, and tree obtained through transek method in the form plot lane. In each transect made a plot in size 20x20 m for tree level, 10 x 10 for poles level, 5x5 for saplings level, and 2x2 m for seedling and cover plants level. The results of this research, in the Muara Tiga Besar Selatan area was obtained the vegetation seedlings-cover plants and saplings level, each of 17 and 7 species. In the area Mahayung are only found level vegetation of seedlings-cover plants as many of 13 species. For the area Klawas Timur and Muara Tiga Besar Selatan was obtained growth level of seedlings-cover plants, saplings, poles, and tree each of 20, 4. 3, dan 2 species for Klawas Timur area, while on Muara Tiga Selatan area each obtained 19, 8, 7, and 3 species. The diversity index of species, overall in all area of reclamation and rate of growth included in the low category with value 0 ≤ H’ ≤ 2.Key words : PT.
