Abstract

This article analyzes the use of swearwords with reference to Sociolinguistic, and Psychological conceptual frameworks. It starts with an emotions and feelings when one is expected to be careful in selecting the words to express his/her thoughts. In the guise of tackling the problem, Sociolinguistic and Psychological explanation is pursued, which in the end, shows that Sociolinguistic explanation is not really adequate to handle the issue. This relates to the possible notion that swearwords might be enacted as a (very) personal expression, devoid of any physical addressees. Key words: swearwords, Sociolinguistic.

Abstract

Abstract Pronunciation is the production of speech sounds for communication. It is the most difficult area of English. This study was conducted under the consideration that pronouncing English words plays an important role. Because of the differences between English and Indonesian pronunciation, many students pronounce English words incorrectly. Data from the Phonetic of English and the rule of how to pronounce English words has been crucial in the development of Phonetics theory throughout its recent past. Explaining the use of English song can increase the pronunciation ability to the students of Unswagati Cirebon in question. Keywords: pronunciation, phonetic, and song

Abstract

The research entitled in “The Use of Thematic Progression in Writing Hortatory Exposition Text” is aimed at finding out the students’ activities in learning hortatory exposition text by using thematic progression patterns and finding out the level of students’ writing skill by using thematic progression patterns in learning hortatory exposition text. This research is expected to give contribution and some informations about the implementation of thematic progression patterns  in writing field, especially in hortatory exposition text. Thematic progression is a way to make a good text in term of good cohesion and coherent of text. It means that thematic progression will influence a content of text and it can be organized into a good organization of essay. There are three patterns of thematic progression used namely constant theme, linear theme, and split rheme. The result of this research shows that the use of thematic progression patterns in writing hortatory exposition text was effective. It can be shown by comparing result of pretest and posttest of exeperimental class. The average of pretest was 49,09 while the average of posttest was 76,16. It means that the students’ writing ability in posttest was improved than the pretest.  Based on the students’ documents in post-test of the experimental class, it can be summarized that most of students got the medium and high level. The medium level was the most achieved level with 84%, while the high level was 10%, and low level was 6%. In addition, most of students could pass the KKM (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal). Since The KKM for English in Senior High School is 75.Keywords: Hortatory text, Theme, Rheme, Thematic Progression

Abstract

This research aims to describe the strategy of commissives speech act and speech of formality scale used in English conversation. This research is figure out clearly the cause of language use verbally especially on commissives speech act. In every speech act, context is always accompanies, the speech cannot separate with the using of verbal speech. This research is to answer the questions such as what kinds of commissives speech act strategies use in English conversation, and what kinds of speech of formality scale use by speaker and hearer in English conversation. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method and the data sources used by the researcher from serial movie which is drama comedy. The result findings are the strategies of commissives speech act used in English conversation are direct literal commissives speech act and direct nonliteral commissives speech implicitly, and the speech of formality scale used by speaker and hearer are casual style, intimate style, and consultative style. Key Words: Commissives Speech Act, Commissives Speech Act Strategy, Formality StyleSTRATEGI TINDAK TUTUR KOMISIF PADA TUTURAN VERBAL DALAM PERCAKAPAN BERBAHASA INGGRISPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan strategi tindak tutur komisif dan ragam situasi keformalan tuturan komisif yang digunakan dalam percakapan berbahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini dapat memberi gambaran secara jelas apa saja yang menyebabkan perbedaan penggunaan bahasa secara verbal khususnya pada tindak tutur komisif. Dalam setiap tindak tutur, selain konteks yang menyertainya, tuturan tersebut tidak terlepas dari penggunaan tuturan verbal. Permasalahan yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah strategi tindak tutur komisif apa yang digunakan dalam percakapan berbahasa Inggris dan ragam situasi keformalan apa yang digunakan oleh penutur dan mitra tutur dalam percakapan berbahasa Inggris. Penulis menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif. Analisis deskriptif adalah suatu metode dengan jalan mengumpulkan data, mengklasifikasi, menganalisis, dan menginterpretasi. Penulis mengambil data untuk diteliti dari film serial yang bergenre drama komedi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi tindak tutur komisif yang digunakan antara lain tindak tutur komisif langsung literal dan tindak tutur komisif langsung nonliteral secara implisit, dan ragam situasi keformalan yang digunakan oleh penutur dan mitra tutur antara lain ragam situasi santai (casual), ragam situasi akrab (intimate), dan ragam situasi usaha (consultative).Kata Kunci: Tindak Tutur Komisif, Strategi Tindak Tutur Komisif, Ragam Situasi keformalan.
