Abstract

Many methods for dewatering of sludge, such as natural evaporate by sun or by means of equipment. Three kind methods of electroplating sludge dewatering by using equipment hare been studied, i.e : centrifugal, filter press and vacuum filter. The result shows that centrifugal has the best performance in term of reduction speed of sludge weight, moisture content of dry cake, and also time. The use of coagulant, thickener and polymerin dewatering can increase flock formation , therefore can accelerate the process. Coagulant addition is necessary in dewatering by using centrifugal method.

Abstract

Disposal of ex-dry cell is one of some waste which is potential for environmental pollution, because dry cell containt heavy metal and other material which is characteristic toxic. This research show the impact disposal of this dry cell. Result from lechate test show that heavy metal which is contained in dry cell shall be leachate in water, moreover in acid condition.

Abstract

One of the solution of waste problem is converted them to become a product which can give benefit for human being. Banana peel is a raw material for producing pectin. From five kind 's banana peel which is used the use of ambon 's banana peel produced the higher content of low metoksil pectin, i. e 3 - 5 %, followed by raj a serai 's banana peel, i. e 1 %, low metoksil . The use of acid as an extraction agent will influence the result

Abstract

The Function of stabilization is to decrease leachate or chemical reaction which is potential to produce pollutant from waste. Three kinds of stabilization such as addition of the cement, lime and organic sludge had been done before. The result showed that the sludge can bind heavy metal. Analysis result showed that the decrease 'in presentation of heavy metal are Zn (79%), Cu (83,5 %), Fe (99,97 %), Mn (JOO %) and Cr (98,2 %). This experiment is continued to find the optimum amount of cement added to the sludge. The result showed that by addition of 5 % cement in textile sludge can hold the heavy metal.

Abstract

Sludge from waste water treatment of electroplating industry contains hazardous waste. Before sludge is dumped to landfill it's need treatment to reduce hazard matter. One of general treatment is sludge stabilization by adding cement and sand to get concrete block. From these research shows that sand is playing important role in binding heavy metal in cement. The mixing between sand, cement and sludge I: I: 2 as per standard for landfill (PP. no 85, 1999) can stabilized sludge but can not reuse as a building material because still contains heavy metal.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Twenty-four elements in Lake Baikal water were determined by HR-ICP-MS instrument, where two river water reference materials, JSAC 0302 and JAC 0032, were applied to verification of the accuracy of analysis. The concentrations of the analyte elements covered a range of nine orders of magnitude, from approximately 17 µg mL-1 of Ca to less than 2 - 3 pg mL-1 of Cs. Lake Baikal water samples from various water depths showed similar chemical compositions to one another.  The distribution of the elements in Lake Baikal water was compared with that in Lake Biwa water, which is the largest lake in Japan. Despite the general similarity in elemental distribution of the two lakes, U and Li were relatively enriched in Lake Baikal water while Y, Mn, and As were relatively enriched in Lake Biwa. Based on the enrichment factor of elements in lake waters, the relative low Li concentration in Lake Biwa water was suggested to be an anomaly, which might be attributed to the deposition of organic deposit that enriched Li. Keywords : multielement analysis, lake water, HR-ICP-MS

Abstract

Vol. 1 No. 1ABSTRACT A lanthanum (La) co-precipitation method was explored for pre-concentration of oxo-anion forming elements followed by measurement with Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS).  The co-precipitation and subsequent washing and elution steps were performed in a 25 mL-volume syringe in order to save the sample consumption and to avoid the contamination from the experimental environment.  In the present work, various parameters such as the concentration of La added into the sample solution, the pH, aging time, and so on were optimized to obtain good recoveries and analytical detection limits for V, As, Se, Sb, and W.  Generally, in the co-precipitation method, high concentration of precipitant (in this case, La) causes a serious problem of signal memory effect in ICP-MS measurement. To reduce such memory effect, in the present experiment, high level of La was removed by passing the analyte solution (i.e., lanthanum hydroxide dissolved in 1 M HNO3) through a mini column packed with cation-exchange resins.  The method thus obtained was evaluated through the measurement of V, As, Se, Sb and W in seawater reference materials (CASS-4 and NASS-5). The recoveries exceeded 80%, and the observed values were in good agreement with the certified values. Thus, the present method was applied to the determination of trace elements in real seawater sample.    Keywords: Lanthanum, pre-concentration

Abstract

ABSTRACT A syringe-based sample pretreatment tool, named herein “chelating monolith”, has been developed for simple and facile solid phase microextraction (SPME) of trace elements in natural waters. The monolith was directly prepared within the confines of a commercially available syringe filter tip by a two-step process: 1) in situ polymerization of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EDMA) and 2) subsequent modification with iminodiacetate (IDA) via ring opening reaction of epoxide. The composition of porogenic solvent was first optimized to make a rigid-porous material that has high permeability and ample surface area as much as possible. Then, the pH and concentration of the IDA modification solution were examined to obtain higher chelating capacity. The metal adsorption properties of the obtained chelating monolith were evaluated through an adsorption/desorption experiment. After optimization of some parameters such as sample solution pH, eluent concentration and the volume, good recoveries of more than 80% were obtained for 28 elements including REEs, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Pb and Th in a single extraction step. The proposed SPME method was validated through the analysis of river water certified reference material (CRM: JSAC 0301-1) Keywords: Solid phase microextraction; syringe filter; chelating monolith; iminodiacetate; ICP-MS
