Abstract

This study aimed to describe the teachers' efforts in building online learning community (OLC) in synchronous and asynchronous learning models. This study employed a qualitative case study involving four teachers from 2 universities in Central Java and East Java, Indonesia. The data of this study were garnered through in-depth interviews and, then, were analyzed narratively. The findings revealed that OLC was reflected in three elements, i.e., cognitive presence, social presence, and teaching presence (Cleveland-Innes et al., 2018). To build OLC in both synchronous and asynchronous learning models, the teachers employed several strategies, e.g., doing an exploration phase through information exchanges, connecting ideas, and applying new ideas (cognitive presence), opening two-way communication and encouraging collaboration (social presence), explaining instructional materials and focusing discussion, and doing reflection and checking for students' understanding (teaching presence). The difference between OLC in synchronous and asynchronous learning models lies in the teaching mode. In the synchronous learning model, the OLC was built through video conferences, such as Zoom meetings or Google Meet. Meanwhile, the asynchronous learning model built the OLC through Moodle or Google Classroom and/or WhatsApp and Telegram discussion. This study concludes that teachers' pedagogical competence is pivotal in building OLC in synchronous and asynchronous learning models.

Abstract

The rubbish is the waste of goods that are not needed by the community. However, it does not mean that rubbish does not have any utility at all. Actually, used bottles can be recycled into a variety of creative products. Unfortunately, just a few people are willing to exploit the potential of the rubbish, so its existence becomes useless, and even just pollute the environment. This community service program aims to hone the creativity of students in recycling the bottles into unique piggy banks and improving students' movements to save their money. The method used in this program is Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA). The participants are the students of class 5 SDN Prigi 1 (n=14). The steps of program implementation include; 1) counseling, 2) demonstration, 3) tools provision, 4) practice, and 5) evaluation. The results of the program are the partisipant’s understanding and skill in recycling the bottles into unique and creative piggy banks. Some piggy bank products produced by participants include; a turtle-shaped pig, an owl, and a plane. Students are expected to be more motivated to save their from an early age.

Abstract

This research is a development research that aims to produce an instrument for measuring mathematical literacy by looking at the procedures and analyzing the quality of the instrument developed. This type of research is research and development which consists of 4 stages, namely: (1) preliminary stage, (2) self-evaluation stage, (3) prototyping stage and (4) field test stage. In this validation, the measurement instrument is declared valid with a validity coefficient of 0.68 which is in the range of 0.4 < V 0.8. The results of the empirical validation test meet the valid criteria for all items. The results of the reliability test by students obtained a total score of 0.80. This value indicates that the reliability of the measurement instrument in the very high category means that it is reliable. The results of the test of the level of difficulty by students obtained an average score of 0.52. This value indicates that the level of difficulty of the measurement instrument is in the medium category. The results of the test of discriminating power by students obtained a final score of 0.32. This value indicates that the level of discriminating power of the measurement instrument is in the good category. The results of the practicality level trial by students obtained a score of 81.15%. This value indicates that the level of practicality of the measurement instrument is in the positive category. The results of the effectiveness test obtained a percentage of 66.67% with a good category. Keywords:Measurement Instrument; Mathematic Literacy; Contextual Approach
