Abstract

International Maritime Organization (IMO) clearly requires adequate communication skills in the English language for Maritime Academy level. Often the resources allocated for teaching english are minimal and the acquisition of speaking and writing skills are subordinated to the acquisition of technical maritime expertise. The aims of this paper is to find out the problems faced by nautical cadets of  STIMART “AMNI” Semarang in Maritime English class and to investigates the needs of the Nautical cadets in order to develop good syllabus and appropriate to their need. The present research finds that the language abilities that the maritime cadets mostly need are speaking, listening and writing skills. This paper also explain some current problems that faced by cadets toward Martime English course. They should be communicate well to the other crew when they do their apprentice on board of a ship. The findings are unequivocal signals for language educators to adapt new approaches to teaching English for specific purposes that suitable for the cadets.
A Comparative Study of Using Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) and Three Minutes Review (TMR) Strategies in Teaching Questions Endah Fauziningrum

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the effectiveness of using STAD and TMR strategies to teach questions to the third grade of elementary school students. The data of the research were taken in Sompok state elementary school 03 and 04. The research design used was factorial design. It means that the writer had two groups, one was taught by using STAD strategy and the other was taught by using TMR strategy. STAD and TMR strategies had two sub-divisions, students who take English courses and students who do not take English courses. The number of the research sample for each cell was 12 students. There were four time lesson of periods for STAD and TMR classes. To investigate the effectiveness of using STAD and TMR strategies, the writer used F-test formula. The results were: 1) STAD was effective to teach question to students who take English courses. It was showed from the pre-test (10.83) and the post-test (12.75). 2) STAD was effective to teach question to students who do not take English courses. It was shown on the mean of pre-test (8.58) and the post-test (11.25). 3) TMR was effective to teach question to students who take English courses. It was shown on the mean of pre-test (10.67) and the post-test (11.50).  4) TMR was effective to teach question to students who do not take English courses. It was shown on the mean of pre-test (9.83) and post-test (10.42). There was not any interaction between the students who take English courses and who do not and and who were taught by using STAD and TMR atrategies.it showed from the ANOVA result. The result was the interaction between strategies and taking courses variables showed 0.325 with sig 0.571. Since, sig 0.571 0.05, then the interaction between strategies and taking courses variables do not effect the students achievement. Keywords:  Comparison; Third Grade Elementary School Students; STAD Strategy; TMR Strategy;the Effectiveness of Using Teaching Strategy

Abstract

The fishermen have a very high-risk work. It is prone to accidents. They are related to nature factors and the length of time they go to sea. The existence and use safety equipment in accordance with standards can minimize the risk accidents and injuries, so it can avoid fatal consequences. This community service activity needs to be carried out for counseling or socialization or training regarding materials/messages related to efforts to prevent work accidents due to unsafe acts, especially with protective equipment, safety equipment, and the dangers of joking in the workplace, guidance to traditional fishermen about safety and health, considering that this group is widely available along fishing ports, first aid materials for accidents and lifesaving. This activity descriptive and practice method. Universitas Maritim AMNI carries out this community service activity in the context of preventing fishermen's work accidents to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of fishermen in vigilance and action in dealing with accidents at sea.

Abstract

Computer based Traning (CBT) mengacu pada pelatihan dalam bentuk praktik, kursus instruksional, demonstrasi video atau bimbingan yang disampaikan melalui komputer. CBT memiliki fitur-fitur menarik dan interaktif mengenai materi program pelatihan dapat disusun untuk taruna untuk menjawab tugas dan pertanyaan, dan demonstrasi video. Tujuan dari pelatihan CBT agar guru dapat meningkatkan pemahaman pengoperasian CBT sehingga dapat menjadi bekal taruna dalam memenuhi kualitas dan standar pelatihan. Pelatihan dilakukan dalam bentuk ceramah, tanya jawab, diskusi dan demonstrasi. Metode pelatihan pengenalan fitur dan penggunaan CBT adalah dengan cara mempraktikkan langsung ke CBT dan menjelaskan bagiannya. Setelah di evaluasi Guru Sudah Mampu Mengoperasikan CBT dan memilih materi pembelajaran sehingga guru sudah menyiapkan materi yang akan disampaikan. Manfaat Pelatihan ini antara lain: 1) CBT sebagai solusi media pembelajaran yang inovatif sehingga para guru termotivasi dan tertantang dalam meningkatkan kemampuan dalam menggunakan teknologi dalam pratik CBT, 2) laboratorium CBT dapat dipergunaan secara maksimal. 3). Menambah wawasan dan kompetensi guru mengenai cara pengoperasian CBT sehingga dapat diajarkan kepada taruna.

Abstract

A job has the potential of causing serious injuries or death. It is necessary to formalize agreed upon work procedures. This prevents the instructions from being missed, forgotten or misinterpreted. It also works as a checklist to ensure that all the hazards, protective measures, work procedures and the general requirements are reviewed with and understood by the assigned worker(s). A work permit serves as a record of the authorization and the completion of the specific work. The authorization must be provided by the competent person after all the necessary conditions have been met. The purpose of this study is to familiarize permit to work system on board of a ship for a safe working environment. The data collecting method use is library research. All parties, the company, the officers and the assigned worker(s) have to commit and comply to all procedures and the requirements of the permit to work system. It has been provided by the regulator. Abstract

The cadets need to master Maritime English skills to communicate between ship and shore, between crew members, between crew and captain, between crew and passangers. So, the cadets’ efficiency in English is highly expected. Therefore, the purpose of this research are to find out the the needs of maritime cadets in English for Specific Purposes class and problem/s faced by Nautical cadets in Maritime English class. Population sampling for this research is Nautical cadets of STIMART "AMNI" Semarang on English for Specific Purpose in Maritime English class. This research uses need analysis approach to interpret the data and using qualitative approach to describe the data. The results of this research are the language abilities that the maritime cadets mostly needed is speaking with 75%. And current problems that faced by cadets toward Maritime English course is cadets find difficulties to master in pronunciation and speaking skill because of their anxiety to make a mistake also lack of time allocation in Maritime English course. Need analysis is important thing in teaching learning process, especially in English for Specific Purposes. By conducting need analysis, the lecturer can get some information about the cadets’ need which plays an important role in designing the materials that will be given to the cadets.Keywords : Need Analysis Approach, teaching and learning, English for Specific Purposes, Maritime EnglishTaruna sangat perlu untuk menguasai keterampilan Bahasa Inggris maritime untuk berkomunikasi antara kapal dan kapal, kapal dan stasiun pantai, antara kru dan kapten antar kru serta antara kru dan penumpang. Oleh karena itu, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kebutuhan taruna akademi maritim akan English for Specific Purposes di kelas  Bahasa Inggris Maritim. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah taruna Program Studi D3 Nautika STIMART "AMNI" Semarang di kelas English for Specific Purpose Bahasa Inggris Maritim. Penelitian ini menggunakan Need Analysis Approach untuk menginterpretasikan data dan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk menjelaskan data. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah kemampuan bahasa yang paling dibutuhkan oleh taruna akademi maritim yaitu berbicara dengan 75%. Dan masalah yang dihadapi taruna dalam kegiatan belajar dan mengajar di kelas Bahasa Inggris Maritim yaitu menemukan kesulitan untuk menguasai keterampilan pengucapan dan berbicara karena kecemasan untuk membuat kesalahan juga kurangnya alokasi waktu dalam mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris Maritim. Analisis kebutuhan adalah hal yang penting dalam proses belajar mengajar, terutama dalam English for Specific Purposes. Dengan melakukan analisis kebutuhan, dosen dapat memperoleh informasi tentang kebutuhan taruna sehingga merancang materi yang akan diberikan kepada taruna.Kata kunci : Need Analysis Approach, Pengajaran, Pembelajaran, English for Specific Purposes

Abstract

Bahasa Inggris Maritim merupakan suatu pengetahuan dan kemampuan yang harus dimiliki oleh taruna dengan baik. Cara mengetahui sampai dimana kemampuan bahasa Inggris Maritim yang dimiliki yaitu dengan adanya nilai. Nilai yang taruna yang terdapat di Universitas Maritim AMNI sudah sangat banyak akan tetapi belum dioptimalkan dengan lebih jauh lagi. Nilai – nilai ini dapat dioptimalkan untuk memprediksi mendatang, cara dengan menggunakan data mining yaitu akan diketahui bentuk pola dari suatu data. Pola tersebut akan dapat diketahui dari berbagai variabel yang ada pada data. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah memprediksi kemampuan bahasa Inggris taruna di masa mendatang dengan menggunakan 4 atribut yaitu membaca, menulis, berbicara, dan mendengarkan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa untuk Mata Kuliah Bahasa Inggris Maritim, kemampuan berbicara (speaking) mempunyai dampak yang besar terhadap atribut yang lain. Sehingga perlu diberikan perlakuan khusus terhadap taruna yang tidak lulus. Dan perlu peningkatan pembelajaran  untuk reading, writing terutama listening.Kata kunci: Bahasa Inggris Maritim, Data Mining, Decision Tree, Penilaian, Prediksi

Abstract

Wilayah Indonesia yang paling luas adalah lautan. Jadi, bukan tidak mungkin menjadikan Indonesia sebagai pusat maritim dunia atau bahkan sebagai poros maritim dunia, seperti yang kita impikan. Dalam sejarah Amanna Gappa disebutkan bahwa hukum maritim dunia berasal dari Nusantara. Hal tersebut menjadi latar belakang yang kuat bagi Indonesia untuk bangkit melalui maritim. Untuk itu diperlukan pengelolaan laut. Tanpa pengelolaan laut yang terstruktur dan terintegrasi, impian untuk membangun Indonesia melalui maritim hanya akan menjadi mimpi. Ini menjadi manfaat karena anugerah Tuhan terbesar Indonesia adalah lautan yang merupakan dua pertiga dari letak geografis Indonesia. Untuk memanfaatkannya, Indonesia harus memiliki pengelolaan laut yang khas. Ini mencakup konsep pertahanan, keamanan dan keselamatan. Ini adalah konsep kedaulatan tentang pembatasan dan pengaturan di laut. Karena ada perbedaan konsep darat dan laut. Ada pagar atau batas yang jelas di darat. Sebaliknya, laut adalah perairan terbuka lebar tanpa batas. Landasan Indonesia sebagai poros maritim dunia diharapkan dengan mengoptimalkan pengelolaan laut. Kata kunci : Manajemen, Maritim, Poros maritim

Abstract

There are many things should be prepared for the Human Resource (HR), to guarantee the promise future and career. The 5.0 era hopes that technology and human are going to live harmoniously in order to improve the quality of human life on an ongoing basis and facilitate the human interest. Meanwhile, in 4.0 era, the social ecosystem accesses a database in cyberspace from the internet and searches, retrieves and analyzes information or data. The society 5.0 is very dependent on cyberspace (visual room) and physical space. In this era, the English ability is very important to achieve. Moreover, there should be any efforts to improve it. The purpose of this study is to describe the efforts of maritime educational institutions in facing the 5.0 era using applications affecting the cadet’s competence of English at PIP Semarang. This type of research is quantitative method with ‘one group pre-test post-test pre-experimental (non-design)’. To complete the data, it could be done by using observation, documentation and library research. Meanwhile the analysis of research data used validity and reliability. The results of the study showed that an application has affected to improve the cadet’ English ability. The conclusion is the application is one of the efforts of maritime education to face 5.0 era in education technology as consequently green planet sustainability.

Abstract

Tujuan dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan edukasi kepada masyarakat mengenai pengelolaan dan pemanfaatan limbah rumah tangga untuk dirubah menjadi berbagai jenis barang yang berguna antara lain pupuk, sabun dan berbagai jenis kerajinan lainnya. Rangkaian kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini merupakan rangkaian kegiatan Aksi Berbagi Kerjasama antara UKSW, UNIMAR AMNI STIKES BETHESDA Yogyakarta dan beberapa Universitas dan Sekolah Tinggi di Jawa Tengah. Kegiatan pemanfaatan limbah rumah tangga atau disebut juga dengan pengolahan sampah dibagi menjadi 4 (empat) kelas, yaitu: Sabun dan Lilin, Pupuk Organik, Paving Block, Kerajinan. Selama kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini berlangsung dapat dilihat keantusiasan peserta. Hal ini dilihat dari keaktifan peserta pada setiap kelas
