Abstract

Aerodynamic is a branch of science which study the effect of wind to an object. Transport vehicle (truck) is one of the object in this field. A deflector is use to direct the wind for aerodynamics aspect. The research is conduct in a small scale wind tunnel with 40 cm x 40 cm cross section and 300 cm length. A truck model is varied without deflector, flat deflector, convex deflector and concave delector. The wind speed is varied at 1,9; 2,31 and 3,23 m/s by a fan. U type manometers with 30o inclination are used to measure height difference (Dh) of the water column at 3 pointsabove the deflector. The data are used to count the wind pressure and the wind speed.Aerodynamic performance is described as a capability to maintain the wind speed at measurement points.The research result shows that the deflector has effect due to aerodynamics characteristic of truck model. Convex deflector has the best performance. Flat and concave deflectors are next.   Keywords: aerodynamics, truck, deflector

Abstract

Automotive charging system provide vehicle’s electricity consumption and battery charging. Common regulator has unstable voltage output. This research is aimed to compare the performance of common and electronic regulator. Electronic regulator designed with an AVR ATMega8 microcontroller and 16 x 2 matrix LCD. The devices are tested in the charging system of Toyota Kijang 5K automotive engine by measuring alternator voltage output using voltmeter. The engine is running at 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 rpm. The measurements are taken three times for 300 seconds with 30 second interval. The result shows that the average voltage output of electronic regulator increase faster at 0 until 30 second measurement period. The result also shows that electronic regulator has more stable voltage output which is 14,45 Volt. The overall comparison study shows that electronic regulator has better performance than common regulator.

Abstract

Pipe  network  is  common  instalation  in  daily  life.  Elbow  is  a  component  in  pipe  network.This research is aimed to get fluida flow behavior in elbow. The experiment is conduct with fluid flow apparatus with number of elbows. The apparatus consist ¾ inch diameter of PVC pipe and a pump which generate water flow and pressure. Volume flow rate is vary by valve opening which are ¼, ½, ¾ and full open. The flow rate is measured using flow meter and a stopwatch.This flow rate is used to get Reynold number. The pressure before and after elbow are measured using U tipe manometer. The measurement takes 5 times at 5 measurement points. The result shows that fluid  flow  tend  to  have  pressure  decreasing.  Much  elbow  number  caused  greater  pressure decreasing.  The  maximum  pressure  occur  at  Re  3049,60  at  first  point  measurement  which  is592,52 kg/m2. The minimum pressure occur at Re 1532,45 at fifth point measurement which is 8,18 kg/m2.

Abstract

Technology   development   has   negative   impact   for   convensional  automotive   product.Electronic  system  has  lower  exhaust  emission  than  convensional  system.  Convensional  system still can develop in order to minimize environmental risk. The development of convensional system can be done by changing the system into semi electronic. It is need an addition of CDI DC system and replacement of switch between pulser and trigger. Trigger must made at distributor shaft with high precision working. This research is aimed to develop convensional ignition system into semi electronic to increase the performance of automotive engine.

Abstract

Bernoulli  theorem  can  applied  to  many  devices  such  as  ventury  tube  in  aoutomotivecarburetor, venturimeter, pitot tube, chimney and aeroplane wings. This research is aimed to get the effect of diameter ratio due to pressure different in Bernoulli theorem apparatus. The research is conduct by experiment using fluid flow circuit.  Diameter ratio is varied as 0,67; 0,50 and 0,33. Fluid flow rate is varied by valve opening arrangement as 45o, 60o, 90o. Measurements are done at7  measurement  point  by  U  type  manometer.  Volume  flow  rate  is  measured  by  flowmeter  and stopwatch.  The  research  shows  that  diameter  ratio  has  effect  due  to  pressure  changes.  theincrease  of  diameter  ratio  tend  to  increase  the  pressure.  Maximum  pressure  is  happen  at  0,67 diameter  ratio;  0,0192  lt/s  volume  flow  rate  at  first  measurement  point.  Minimum  pressure  is happen at 0,33 diameter ratio; 0,0247 lt/s volume flow rate at fifth measurement point.

Abstract

Painting is surface treatment that aimed to protect the surface and to increase the material value by layering a material with more valuable one. This knowledge is known as surface coating knowledge. This research is aimed to get the effect of nozzle spray gun hole diameter and spray distance due to painting efficiency. The research is done by laboratory experiment. Spray distance vary as 15 cm, 17 cm, 20 cm, 22 cm and 25 cm. Nozzle diameter vary as 1; 1,5 and 2 mm. The data are taken for area product of the painting and the thickness of the layer by measuring the weight of the material. The experiment use Avian Sea Blue paint and 17 x 20 cm zinc plate. The data taken for 3 times. The result shows that spray distance has effect due to painting area. Closer distance tend to decrease the diameter. If the spray distance is too close, it can cause the paint melt. Otherwise, the longer distance cause the paint dry before its stick to the media.

Abstract

Banyuwangi has 18.738 fishermen that use wood boats with diesel engine. This research is aimed to get the effect of shaft angle inclination due to boat speed. The research is done by prototype experiment. A small scale boat with 25 cm length, 7,75 wide and 2 meter motion water field. The shaft angle inclination is vary as 0o, 5o, 10o,15 o, 20o, 25o dan 30o. The number of blade propeller is vary as 2 and 4 blades. Motion time is measured by a stopwatch. The data are analyzed to get boat speed. The result shows that the shaft angle inclination has effect due to boat speed. The angle of 15o has the best performance with 2 blades propeller.
