Abstract

Sulphides beared in tannery wastewater are harmful pollutant which beturned to disastrous hydrogen sulphide gas under acidic circumtances. The previous study on Sulphides Oxydation System of varied catalist (MnSO4) added has not indicated a satisfactory result yet. The main objective of this study is to verify the merit of Mn++ dosage based on the sulphides content. Futher, whether or not it will be useful to optimize the oxydation process and economize the daily cost of tannery wastewater treatment. The data of sulpides content monitored during 12 hours oxidation period showed that there was significant difference between the curve (sulpides vs time) with Mn++ and the curve without Mn++ treated as the control. When a foamy oxydated wastewater appeared such as liming waste it would be a problem and the foam should be removed in such a way that not to be harmfull to the oxidation and other chemical processes. However, anti foam substance must be provided or introduced to clean Technology in the system. The experiment, observation and chemical tests data of this study gives proves the advantages of adding Mn++ in sulphides  oxidation system. The catalist adding based on the sulphides content can be considered realistic.     INTISARI Sulfide yang terkadang dalam air limbah penyamakan kulit dapat berbahaya jika berubah menjadi gas H2S dibawah kondisi asam. Penelitian sebelumnya yang memvarisi penambahan Mn SO4 sebagai katalisator oksidasi sulfida belum menunjukkan hasi yang mantap. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memastikan dosis penambahan MnSO4 kedalam system oksidasi sulfida sehingga dapat digunakan sebagai patokan. Kegunaan dari dosis optimum adalah untuk menghemat biaya operasional harian pada unit pengolah air limbah. Data kandungan sulfide yang dimonitor dalam 12 jam menunjukkan perbedaan nyata antara curva oksida (sulfide vs waktu) dengan Mn++ dan cuva oksidasi yang tanpa Mn ++ sebagai kontrol. Jika air limbah yang berbuih diokidasi dengan cara ini maka akan menimbulkan masalah, akan tetapi masalah buih dapat diatasi dengan ati buih sejauh tidak menganggu proses pengolahan atau bahkan menambah zat cemaran. Penelitian ini menunjukkan data uji yang positip menguntungkan dengan penambahan katalisator Mn++ pada sistem oksidasi sulfida.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to isolate and to identify the microorganisms that grow as activated sludge used in the tannery wastewater treatment plant. The result shows that the protozoa in the activated sludge were β mesosaprobik protozoa. Other microorganisms in the sludge were spherical – gram negative bacteria (Zoogloea) and cylindrical – gram positive bacterial (Sphaerotillus). It is therefore can be concluded that the wastewater which treated with the activated sludge was medium polluted condition. INTISARI Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengisolasi dan mengidentifikasi mikro organisme yang tumbuh sebagai lumpur aktif yang digunakan dalam pengolahan limbah cair industry penyamakan kulit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan protozoa yang tumbuh dalam lumpur aktif yaitu protozoa kelompok β mesosaprobik. Selain itu juga terdapat bakteri gram negatif  berbentuk bula (Zoogloea) dan bakteri gram positif berbentuk batang (Sphaerotillus). Dari isolasi dan identifikasi jenis mikroorganisme yang ada pada lumpur aktif dapat disimpulkan limbah cair yang diolah pada kondisi pencemaran tingkat sedang.

Abstract

The objective of this study is know the effect of ide poison and formaline in the dried curing of goat skin. This study used 199 goat skins that were devided into seven groups od curing. Each group consisted of 17 goat skins. Those groups were : 3 groups of dried curing by hide poison of 0,1%, 0,3% and 0,5%; 3 groups of dried curing by formaline of 1%, 3% and 5%; and 1 groups of dried curing without any preserevation agent as control. After having stored for about 4 months, those skins then to be analized. Physical and chemical analysis werw carried out to evaluate the quality of the skin. Completely randomized design by Duncan’s test was used to analyze the dta. Based on this statistical analysis we can know that: the effect of hide poson in the dried curing of goat skins was the best. The quality of goat skins that were cured by hide poison was as follows : - the average tensile strength was the highest (886,30 kg/CM2), - the average of stretch was the lowest (14,50%), - the average iof hardness was the highest (201,90 kg/2,54 Cm), - the water content was the lowest (20%), and the damage was the smallest (10%).
