Abstract

Background. Stress of varying duration and types are known to affect the number and activation level of cerebral mast cells (MCs) via plasma CRH. Although MC number is known not to be increased in acute stress, elevated plasma CRH might still activate brain MCs.Objective. To investigate the effect of acute stress of incremental duration to the activation level of thalamic and hippocampal mast cells using elevated platform test to elicit stress in male Wistar rats.Methods. This research used randomized post-test only control group design with 4 control group of 30, 60, and 90 minute stress exposure. Mast cell activation of the regiotalamus and hippocampus is assessed by histomorphometrics.Results. In the hippocampus, we found a significant difference of MC activation between control and experimental groups (p=0.014; p<0.05) but not among the incremental duration of acute stress. However, MC activation was not different between control and experimental groups in the thalamus.Conclusion. Acute stress exposure increases MC activation without recruiting further MCs in specific cerebral region but the duration of acute stress itself does not affect the activation level.

FABRIKASI NANOTUBES TiO2 DENGAN TINGKAT NANOKRISTALINITAS TINGGI MELALUIPERLAKUAN KOMBINASI ANIL DAN PASCA-HIDROTERMAL UNTUK APLIKASI SEL SURYATERSENSITISASI ZAT PEWARNA. OF HIGHLY NANOCRYSTALLINE TiO2 NANOTUBES THROUGH A COMBINATIONOF PRE-ANNEALING AND HYDROTHERMAL TREATMENT FOR DYE SENSITIZED SOLAR CELLAPPLICATION. In the recent years TiO2 nanotube structure has attracted a great attention due to its very highsurface area to volume ratio. This property plays an important role on the dye sensitized solar cell electrodesapplications. In this study, TiO2 nanotubes have been fabricated through hydrothermal technique by dissolvingDegussa P25 TiO2 nanopowder in a highly concentrated alkaline solution of sodium hydroxide into a sealedautoclave. In order to improve nanocrystallinty of TiO2 nanotubes structure, a modification was made bycombining conventional annealing process and hydrothermal post. Details of the structure, morphology andcrystallinity of products were analized by XRD, Raman spectroscopy, SEM and TEM, while the opticalproperties of the nanotubes was examined by UV-Vis spectroscopy. The investigation result showed thatenhancing nanocrystallinity while at the same time maintaining the integrity of the nanotube hollow structurecan be obtained by the combined process of conventional annealing and post-hydrothermal treatment. For thenanotube samples which have been previously annealed at 150 °C, the crystallite size of anatase TiO2 increasedfrom 6.93 to 7.82 nm after post-hydrothermal treatment of 80-150 °C. A more significant enhancement in the142 | Majalah Metalurgi, V 27.2.2012, ISSN 0216-3188/ hal 141-150nanocrystallinity can be achieved when the annealing temperature was raised to 300 ° C, followed by posthydrothermal. This resulted in the crystallite size of anatase TiO2 nanotubes increased from 17.20 to 18.30 nm.The band gap energy of resulting nanotubes is inversely proportional to crystallites size, where the lowest valueof 3.19 eV obtained from the largest crystallite size is 18.30. In the DSSC fabrication device, this nanotubes alsoshown the highest open-circuit voltage of 108 mV.

Abstract

Septic associated encephalopathy (SAE) is simply define as an encephalopathy incidence that occurs in sepsis patients. Ironically this entity can increases the mortality rate. Importantly, the clinical presentations of this entity is vary ranging from malaise to coma condition. The central nervous system is susceptible to damage that caused by systemic inflammation including sepsis with complex pathophysiologies such as endothelial dysfunction, neurotransmitter imbalance, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptosis. In general, current management of SAE is similar with the management of sepsis incidence which includes infections management, maintaining tissue perfusion and symptomatic therapy to treat delirium and convulsions that may occur. Also, several studies continue to be developed including the use of corticosteroids, magnesium, antioxidants, and immunoglobulin. Early identification and appropriate initial handling significantly affect the output of the SAE patients.

Abstract

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) caused by SARS-Cov-2 had been spreading worldwide including Indonesia, but In Indonesia, it was difficult to diagnose confirmation Covid-19 by Polymerase Change Reaction (PCR). and in clinical practice to treat covid-19,  Indonesia Health Ministry use term probable covid-19 for patients under observation Covid-19, but study for neurological manifestation on  probable Covid-19 is very lacking. Objective: Knowing the neurological manifestation of patient probable Covid-19.Methods: Observational study from Covid-19 medical record and neuro-Covid-19 medical record of all probable Covid-19 hospitalized in the isolation ward of Saiful Anwar Hospital (RSSA) Malang since March-May, 2020 (3 months). Probable Covid-19 criteria were given by Covid-19 task force team based on Health Minister Indonesia criteria. This criterion was based on clinical manifestation (severe upper respiratory symptoms, or mild-severe pneumonia), radiologic examination (lung infiltrate and or chest CT scan), and laboratory examination. Neurological manifestation is based on clinical symptom appeared while patient hospitalized, supported with radiologic and laboratory data which was supervised by neurologist or neurologist resident. All data was inputted to neuro-Covid-19 e-registry on the smartphone application, sent periodically to the data center in Neurology Department RSSA Malang. Results: A hundred and fourteen probable Covid-19 was registered with mean age 34,5 year old and mostly at the young age of 20-50 years (38%). The neurological manifestation was observed in 4 patients (3,4% from all possible Covid-19 patients) with thrombotic stroke as the most common manifestation (50%), followed by myelum tumor (25%) and hypoxia encephalopathy (25%). Stroke patients in probable Covid-19 had old age (72 and 82 years) accompanied by several comorbid such as hypertension, DM and CVA history and Covid symptoms of cough, shortness of breath and fever. Hemiparesis was found improved with aspirin and neurotropic therapy. Patient with myelum tumor had a covid symptom of shortness of breath, cough, and fever with UMN tetraparesis. Previous MRI examination results suspected meningioma. The patient died while hospitalized. Patients with hypoxia encephalopathy admitted with decreased consciousness due to shortness of breath with acidosis respiratory symptoms (pH 7,22 ). This condition improved after oxygenation without focal neurologic deficit. Conclusion: Neurological manifestation in probable Covid-19 was 3,4% of all patients. The most common diagnosis was a thrombotic stroke, followed by myelum tumor, hypoxia encephalopathy, and mortality rate is 25%.

Abstract

Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) is one of the very promising alternative renewable energy sources to anticipate the declination in the fossil fuel reserves in the next few decades and to make use of the abundance of intensive sunlight energy in tropical countries like Indonesia. In the present study, TiO2 nanoparticles of different nanocrystallinity was synthesized via sol−gel process with various water to inorganic precursor ratio (Rw) of 0.85, 2.00 and 3.50 upon sol preparation, followed with subsequent drying, conventional annealing and post-hydrothermal treatments. The resulting nanoparticles were integrated into the DSSC prototype and sensitized with an organic dye made of the extract of red onion. The basic performance of the fabricated DSSC has been examined and correlated to the crystallite size and band gap energy of TiO2 nanoparticles. It was found that post-hydrothermally treated TiO2 nanoparticles derived from sol of 2.00 Rw, with the most enhanced nanocrystalline size of 12.46 nm and the lowest band gap energy of 3.48 eV, showed the highest open circuit voltage (Voc) of 69.33 mV.
