Abstract

This paper tries to explore the concept of knowledge (‘ilm) in Islam. There are twoaspects that will be discussed here. Both are the view of meaning and the essence ofknowledge in Islam and the sources of knowledge in Islam. The first one speaks aboutthe ontological aspect and the second one discusses about epistemological aspect. This articleshows that the research that the concept of knowledge in Islam is similar with theconcept of science in western tradition, but with the wider scope. Seeing in knowledgesources, there are three aspects that can be explored, those are the signs of qauliyyah (thewords of God), the signs of kauniyyah (the world of God), and the signs of insâniyyah.

Abstract

This paper studies about the history and the dynamic of knowledge developing in Islam.The glorious of Islamic civilization which were signed by the advance of knowledgedeveloping around 7th to 13th centuries was not something hapened by an accident,but through long process and it was related with the prestige of muslims in field ofknowledge. In the centuries that called as the golden age of Islam, muslim civilizationbecome the central of world civilization and give the high contribution in emerging themodern western civilization. While, in next phase when muslim become underdevelopingcountries it was also related with the status on knowledge that marginalized and stagnantedin inmuslim world. There were many theories and argumentations from many expertsthat stated about the factors caused the falling of muslim. The falling of muslim peoplein same time is also the problem of mainkind together, because the western moderncivilization was ambigious in understanding the concept of knowledge.

Abstract

This paper departs from the spirit to build the integrative science. Development of integrative science is an importantissue for the Islamic world, not just merely as part of an effort to overcome the problem of the dichotomy of science,which is the root of the problem of dropping people and their stuttering in facing the challenges of modernity, but alsobe an option in solving various problems of contemporary humanity, which can not be solved completely by usingWestern science.The findings of this paper. First, the construction of the Islamic paradigm in the development ofintegrative science rests on spirit of Islamic scientification. Secondly, the paradigm of Islam is considered to have strongprospects in developing the Islamic sciences that relevant to the realities and needs of Muslims.

Abstract

Ushuluddin is a fundamental root of Islamic sciences. Unfortunately, in its development, Ushuluddin as a scientificthing is considered irrelevant to answer society problems. It will be understood Ushuluddin just taught religious doctrineexclusively without communicating it to social problems now. Ushuluddin basically is built based on the spirit of faith,Islam, and ihsan through philosophical approach is expected to further enrich Ushuluddin science itself, which in turnis the Ushuluddin will be able to respond to the challenges of modernity. Ushuluddin Faculty as a specific place tolearn Ushuluddin sciences is encouraged to contribute in Islamic development, especially in Islamic thinking. Althoughthe faculty does not have a lot of students, but those who enter Ushuluddin must have excellent academic ability andexpertise of religion above the average, in addition of course good morals. After all, this writing discussed aboutIslamic philosophical approach in developing Ushuluddin sciences.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to know how the changes of the social impact the role and the position of the ulama. Urban society is the real phenomena that happen for the coming of the industrialization era, or in another word that the urban society is the manifest of the industrial society. The writer sees the urban society phenomena as similar as the industrial society. This is a library research, which takes the source of study from the books and other literature related to the topic. The source of data is classified into two parts, the primary source, and the secondary one. As analysis technique, the writer uses the content analysis with the classification of sign-vehicles; which relies solely upon the judgments which theoretically, may range from perceptual discrimination to sheer guesses of analyst or group of analyst’s judgment are regarded as the report of the scientific observer. Finally, it is found that in urban society after coming of the industrialization era. The role and the position of ulama have changed. The ulama in urban society is not the social category again, but the parameter of ulama in urban society is the intellectual one. The position of ulama is not like a kyai or a teacher anymore such as what happened in pre-industrial or semi-industrial, but the ulama become the partner of people. Abstrak: Paper ini bermaksud untuk mengetahui perubahan pada masyarakat terkait dengan peran dan posisi ulama pada masyarakat urban. Masyarakat urban merupakan fenomena nyata pada era industrialisasi. Dengakn kata lain, masyarakat urban merupakan manifestasi dari masyarakat industrial. Penulis melihat fenomena yang serupa antara masyarakat urban dengan masyarakat industri. Tulisan ini merupakan riset kepustakaan yang mengambil sumber data dari buku dan literatur lain yang relevan. Sumber data diklasifikasi menjadi dua bagian, sumber data primer dan sumber data sekunder. Untuk analisis digunakan analisis isi yang mengklasifikasi tanda baca, yang didasarkan pada penilaian secara teoritis, berkisar dari diskriminasi persepsi sampai dugaan analisis atau kelompok penilaian analisis yang dipandang sebagai laporan ilmiah. Temuan dari penelitian ini bahwa masyarakat urban muncul sesudah era industrialisasi. Peran dan posisi ulama telah berubah. Ulama pada masyarakat urban bukan lagi semata pada kategori sosial, tetapi parameter ulama pada masyarakat urban ada pada aspek intelektualitasnya. Posisi ulama bukan lagi Kyai atau guru sebagaimana fenomena pada masyarakat pra industri atau semi industri, tetapi ulama menjadi patner masyarakat.

Abstract

Abstract

This article tries to explore the strategic role of Islamicphilosophy in developing psychological studies. There are two ways todevelop psychological studies. First, studies based on Islamic tradition,and second studies based on modern psychology. The former is usuallycalled “Islamic psychology” which is based on traditional Islamicknowledge like Islamic philosophy and Sufism, while the latter is called“psychology of Islam” which is based on certain elements of modernpsychology considered in line with Islamic values. In fact, both kinds ofpsychological studies are important if we want to put Islam andpsychology together.
