Abstract

This article discusses the Jorge J.E. Gracia’s hermeneutical concept used as an alternative theory of the Qur’anic textual interpretation. The discussion focuses on three main points, (i) the Qur’anic textual narration as the object of interpretation, (ii) Gracia’s hermeneutic to interpret the text, and (iii) arranging the Qur’anic textual interpretation paradigm. Based on the interpretive study, started with mapping Gracia's theory of understanding, and then systematizing it into the theory formulation, the results of the study showed: (1) the concept of qur'anic text (alnash) is the ultimate consciousness. The Qur'an is something readable/touchable (almaktub). As an alnash, Qur'an has a text mechanism in which its contextual approach becomes the main gate to open its meaning. (2) The Gracia's hermeneutic logical reasoning is directed to overcome misunderstanding (not understanding) of the text. While the development of textual interpretation method used to bridge between the historical text and the audience’s situation. (3) The paradigm of the textual interpretation used as a worldview to look at the Qur'an and its interpretation, with the concept of "alnash" as its starting point, and then working with emphasizing the existing understanding among text, audience, and context.

Abstract

This article discusses the mindset of Arab society towards religion which is answered and it was changed after the Koran came. This relationship is dialectic, the Arab community as khitab al-Quran. The approach used by the social history of social psychoanalysis. With this approach, this article found some important conclusions. (1) Social history emphasizes that geographic factors, psychological, and social culture have shaped their social siko. Psycho-social impact on their perspectives on God and Religion. God was related to a god (dewa) who can help the biological necessities of life, although not psychologically soothing. As the unsound of the psico-social condition, the way they understand the religions is not correct. They profess religion, somehow does not feel the presence of God. The more they worship Gods, the more discrepancies, social injustices, and tyranny happen. Responding to that matter, the Quran apply persuasive method as the advice (al-din al-nasihah), and discussion (jidal) as their way of thought on religion. (2) The Qur'an came alter their patterns of psychological evolution, from an-nafs al-ammara as bi-su society into an-nafs al-lawwamah, until in the end, they had a quiet soul (an-nafs al-Mutmainnah)

Abstract

This study discusses John Wansbrough's thoughts on Alquran interpretations, which emphasize the two important points as its focus of the study; interpretation paradigm and positioning of the scriptural interpretations. Based on the content analysis method as its analytical tool from the various works, both those directly and indirectly related to Wansbrough's thoughts, the results of this study showed that there are two lines of understanding of interpretations: first, the interpretation is seen as an act of interpreting the scriptures, in which in its process there are rules, work procedures, and thinking patterns that continue to grow. The existence of an exegete becomes a parameter of the interpretations produced. Interpretation and exegete are two things that are interrelated each other. Second, interpretation has an exegetical device inherent in the interpreter, which then produce the exegetical types of explicative elements or procedural devices used by an interpreter.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas akal sebagai sebuah nalar berfikir dalam tradisi usul fikih. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kategoris-kritis, untuk melihat dan memetakan porsi, posisi dan proporsi akal sebagai alat atau metode dalam melahirkan hukum Islam. Artikel ini diharapkan bisa memetakan dan menempatkan akal secara bijak dalam peran dan aktivitasnya sebagai perangkat dalam mengeluarkan hukum Islam. Meletakkan akal sebagai metode berfikir hukum Islam di tempatnya secara proporsional. Memberikan pandangan mengenai penggunakan akal sebagai sebuah concern dalam tradisi kajian usul fikih. Serta menghilangkan justifikasi negatif mengenai penggunaan akal dalam melahirkan hukum agama.

Abstract

This article discusses the concept of maqāṣid al-sharīʻah (the goal of sharia) as a basis of the interpretation of the Qur'an. The points to be discussed are focused on two lines, namely the paradigm of tafsīr al-maqāṣidī (the goal interpretation) and the configuration of the reason of tafsīr al-maqāṣidī. The approach used is the hermeneutic approach within the framework of the structure of the interpretation system. It is by using the approach and the analysis, this article draws conclusions to the three lines of the understanding on the tafsīr al-maqāṣidī: (1) The paradigm of tafsīr al-maqāṣidī is the perspective toward the Qur'an and its interpretation along with the concept of maqāṣid al-sharīʻah as the starting point, working with the emphasis on the harmonization between the text and the spirit of justice as has been conceptualized in the theory of maqāṣid al-sharīʻah. Thus, tafsīr al-maqāṣidī emphasizes logical reasoning for the public benefit to be more powerful than the text reasoning. (2) Hermeneutical reasoning of tafsīr al-maqāṣidī is supported by three pillars of awareness: the historical, theoretical, and practical awareness. The three pillars are then actualized in the step of interpretation covering: contextualization, decontextualization, and ends with a re-contextualization. (3) As a system of interpretation, tafsīr al-maqāṣidī passes the way of interpretation through the rules of linguistic, the analysis of hermeneutics and the analysis of public benefit (maṣlaḥah). Abstract

This article focuses on reinterpreting inherited verses using Ahmad an-Na'im's reading pattern. Interpretative-explorative analysis. This analysis produces several conclusions: (a) Reading for reality is an alternative view to revive the Qur'an so that it has a paradigm in looking at reality. (b). In the analysis of the inheritance verse (Surah An-Nisa 'verse 11), reading of reality, the acceptance of the inheritance doubled from the portion received by women, shows the superiority of men over women, because of some illat. Whereas in the reading for reality analysis, the Al-Qur'an presents new regulations on inheritance. This regulation can be used in giving birth to the Qur'an fiqh concerning inheritance in the present context.

Abstract

”The history of Qur’anic Exegesis shows that there is a pattern of interpretation of the Qur’an that originates not only from reasoning (ta'aqquli), but also from spiritual emanations (at'ta'ammul ad-diniyyah). The importance of understanding the exegetical patterns/models driven by the Sufis, in order to become a better alternative to the patterns of understanding/interpreting the Qur’an. This article will conduct an analysis with a focus on: Sufi interpretation; scientific analysis and religious appreciation, discourse of meaning in Sufi interpretation, and patterns/models of al-Qusyairi's Sufistism interpretation. The research framework used is Abdullah Saeed's hierarchy of values to read the hierarchy of meaning of the Sufi al-Qusyairi interpretation. The findings of this research include: Sufi interpretation is a tafir based on knowledge (knowledge) and the depth of Islamic charity (experience). Al-Qusyair Sufi interpretation is elaborates between knowledge and Islamic spiritual experience. In the discourse of meaning, Sufi interpretation is based on the condition of the Sufi soul at different states (ahwal) and spiritual levels (maqamat). However, mystical perception of the Qur’an must come to terms with its birth meaning. The Sufistic interpretation of al-Qusyairi can combine the meaning of isyariyyah with the meaning of lahiriah verse. Al-Qusyairi understands that the contents of the Koran have three levels of meaning according to the level of maqa>m in the concept of tasawwuf, namely: 'irfani, burhani and bayani.

Abstract

Artikel ini mendiskusikan ta’wil sebagai sistem interpretasi. Ia berusaha untuk memformulasikan ta’wil secara epistemologis sebagai sistem yang berbeda. Ta’wil di sini dideduksi dari pemikiran Ibn Qutaybah di dalam karyanya Ta’wil Mushkil al-Qur’an dan Ta’wil Mukhtalif al-Hadith. Pemikirannya tentang interpretasi akan dikaji dengan menggunakan teori hermeneutika dan epistemologi. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memformulasikan pemikiran Ibn Qutaybah dalam skema sistematis sehingga metode ta’wil al-Qur’an yang akadamik dapat disimpulkan darinya.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas konsep hermeneutika pemaknaan teks Jorge J.E Gracia sebagai teori penafsiran tekstual al-Qur’an, dengan tiga poin pokok bahasan: (i) narasi tekstualitas al-Qur’an sebagai obyek penafsiran (ii) hermeneutika teks Jorge J.E Gracia dan (iii) paradigma tafsir tekstual terhadap al-Qur’an.  Pola kajian artikel ini diarahkan pada analisis interpretatif-strukturasi,  dengan melakukan analisis isi (content analysis) pada karya utama tokoh. Artikel ini menemukan bahwa: (1) Konsep teks al-Qur’an atau al-Naṣṣ adalah kesadaran utama, sebab al-Qur’an adalah sesuatu terbaca/tersentuh (al-Maktūb), ia memiliki entitas hurf, al-Qur’an, al-kitab, ayat, kalimat dan al-risalah.  (2) Nalar hermeneutis pemaknaan teks ala Gracia mengurai kesalahpahaman (misunderstanding) teks, dengan metode the development of textual interpretation, untuk menjembatani kesejarahan teks dengan keadaan audiens. (3) Paradigma tafsir tekstual dengan konsep “al-nash” bekerja dengan menekankan pada adanya pemahaman yang baik atas teks, audiens, konteks, karena teks al-Qur’an itu tidak sebatas tertulis dalam sebuah bentuk (form), ia begitu kompleks, ia sebuah konstruksi (construction), kombinasi (combination) dan korelasi (correlation).

Abstract

“The presence of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia is a display case for the distinctive face of Islam, with social, cultural, religious and political arrangements for civil society. Pesantren becomes an educational institution as well as a house of wisdom, where students and the pesantren community learn to be good individuals. The strengths of the educational, ethical and socio-religious principles of Islamic boarding schools need to be discussed more deeply, in order to explore the richness of inclusiveness in Islamic boarding schools. Inclusiveness is a result of pesantren cultural education, and inclusiveness is the result of pesantren curriculum education. The principle of inclusiveness in Islamic boarding schools can be seen in the realm of social interaction, not in the realm of ideas. Education carried out in Islamic boarding schools is education that is integrated in three intelligences at once; intellectual, spiritual and emotional. The educational culture of this pesantren is unique. Where the value of education forms the value in a santri from the formation of classical book studies with a Sufism or Sufism pattern. Education in Islamic boarding schools prioritizes the theological-philosophical goals of Islamic education. In addition to seeking knowledge (li talab al-ilm) also seeking blessings (li talab al-barakah). Tasamuh, gentle, calm attitude, respect, respect for others, open thinking (inclusive), are authentic social ethics of Islamic boarding school products. Tasamuh, Islamic boarding schools are not only theoretical, but become a way of life (al-'amal al-hayah). The social ethics of Islamic education in Islamic boarding schools lies in the ability to optimize -spiritual- tarbiyah, ta'lim -intellectual-, ta'dib -emotional- education which is the spirit of Islamic education. Pesantren has an exclusive and inclusive attitude that is well harmonized.”. ABSTRAK “Kehadiran pondok pesantren di Indonesi menjadi etalase wajah beragama Islam yang khas, dengan tatatan sosial, budaya, agama dan politik masyarakat madani. Pesantren mejadi lembaga pendidikan sekaligus rumah kearifan, dimana santri dan masyarakat pesantren belajar menjadi pribadi yang baik. Kekuatan prinsip pendidikan, etika dan sosial-religius pesantren perlu diwacanan lebih dalam, guna menggali kekayan khazanah inklusifitas di pondok pesantren. Inklusifitas merupakan sebuah hasil dari pendidikan kultur pesantren, dan sikap inklusif merupakan hasil dari pendidikan kurikulum pesantren. Prinsip inklusif di pondok pesantren dapat dilihat dalam ranah interaksi sosial, bukan pada dataran ide. Pendidikan yang dilaksanakan di pesantren adalah pendidikan yang digabungkan (integrated) dalam tiga kecerdasan sekaligus; intelektual, spiritual dan emosional. Kultural edukatif pesantren ini menjadi khas. Dimana nilai kendidikan membentuk nilai dalam diri seorang santri dari bentukan kajian kitab klasik yang bercorakan tasawwuf atau sufistik. Pendidikan di pondok pesantren mengendepankan tujuan teologis-filosofis pendidikan Islam. Selain mencari ilmu (li thalab al-ilm) juga mencari keberkahan (li thalab al-barakah). Tasamuh, sikap lembut, teduh, menghargai, menghormai orang lain, berfikir tebuka (inklusif), merupakan etika sosial otentik produk pondok pesantren. Tasamuh, pondok pesantren tidak hanya teoritis, melainkan menjadi sebuah laku hidup (al-‘amal al-hayah). Etika sosial pendidikan Islam pondok pesantren terletak pada kemampuan dalam mengoptimalkan Pendidikan tarbiyah ¬-spritual- , ta’lim -intelektual-, ta’dib -emosional- yang menjadi ruh pendidikan Islam. Pesantren memiliki sikap eksklusif serta inklusif yang diharmonisasikan dengan baik.”.
