Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the types of errors made and difficulties faced by the students at SMA Negeri 1 Ingin Jaya when writing simple past sentences. This study used a descriptive design. The sample was 30 grade-10 students at SMA Negeri 1 Ingin Jaya. The instruments used in this study were tests and interviews that was given to the participants to find out the types of errors and the difficulties faced by them in writing the simple past tense. The data analysis technique used in this study were the percentage formula for test and interview analysis based on Miles et al. (2013). Based on the results of this study, it was found that there were 26% of students made an error in omission, 71,33% in misinformation and 2,67% in misordering. The highest error was in misinformation. Based on the result of the interviews, it was found that there were several difficulties faced by students in writing simple past tense sentences; the students have difficulties in determining and using the correct form of regular and irregular verbs, and they have lack of knowledge about simple past tense material.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out whether or not English students of The University of Serambi Mekkah preferred learning English throughsocial media or printed media. This study was conducted by comparing anobject from media, such as Instagram posts and English books. Thisstudy used descriptive design. The sample consisted of 30 Englishstudents of the University of Serambi Mekkah. The instrument wasquestionnaire, and the percentage formula was used for data analysis.The result showed that the students preferred learning English throughEnglish books (68%) to instagram posts (55, 33%). Therefore, it isrecommended that the university adds more English books in the libraryto assist the students in learning.

Abstract

Penanaman nilai-nilai nasionalisme pada anak dewasa ini sangat penting dilakukan. Apalagi Indonesia merupakan negara yang dikenal dengan budaya ketimuran yang sangat menjunjung nilai karakter (nasionalisme). Hal ini sangat diperlukan karena anak berada pada pertumbuhan dan perkembangannya. Jika sejak dini nilai nasionalisme sudah distimulasi dengan baik, maka saat dewasa kelak nilai tersebut akan melekat pada diri anak-anak dengan kuat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai nasionalisme dalam legenda Batu Bertutup di Kabupaten Aceh Besar. Jenis penelitian ini termasuk deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah legenda Batu Bertutup dari informan yang berupa rekaman dalam Bahasa Aceh yang diterjemahkan dalam bahasa Indonesia. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ditemukan beberapa nilai nasionalisme seperti; kesetiaan, kesetiakawanan, kemandirian, dan kerja keras.Kata kunci: legenda; nilai; dan nasionalisme

Abstract

The use of local legends is very good in strengthening the student literacy movement. This study aims to describe the obstacles in the use of local legends in strengthening the literary literacy movement of elementary school students in Aceh Besar District. This type of research includes a qualitative description. The data was obtained through direct observation of the availability of information about local legends in Aceh Besar District, such as Batu Bertutup, Eumpee Buno, Mon Twi Patong, Amat Rhang Manyang and Asal-Usul Gunung Tiga. Based on the results of the study, several obstacles were found in the use of local legends, namely (1) loose customary ties in society and the indifference of the younger generation to folk legends; (2) local legend books have not been recorded yet; (3) lack of concern for and pride in local legends; (4) generally storytellers are old and have died.
