Abstract

Background: One of the deviant behaviors that occur nowadays in children is the behavior of inhalation. Inhalant is an alternative drug substitute that is affordable for children and can cause addiction. Inhalants can have an impact on health, the social environment and culture. This study aimed to determine the effects of environmental living and parenting style on the glue inhaling behavior among elementary school students in Sibolga, North Sumatera.Subjects and Method: This was a case-control study conducted in Sibolga, North Sumatera, in May 2018. A sample of 60 elementary students was selected for this study by purposive sampling. The dependent variable was glue inhaling behavior. Independent variables were environmental living and parenting style. The data were obtained by a questionnaire and analyzed by a multiple logistic regression.Results: Permissive or authoritarian parenting style increased glue inhaling behavior and it was statistically significant (OR= 31.50; 95% CI= 5.99 to 165.47; p<0.001). Risky environmental living increased glue inhaling behavior but it was statistically non-significant (OR = 1.80; 95% CI <0.01 to 1.01; p = 0.999).Conclusions: Permissive or authoritarian parenting style and risky environmental living increase glue inhaling behavior in elementary students.Keywords: glue inhaling behavior, environmental living, parenting styleCorrespondence:Yusniar. Abstract

Exposure to HIV patients in North Sumatra until March 2016 the cumulative number of HIV cases was 11,295 people. HIV spread is more vulnerable to women, HIV can be transmitted through sex, this can be caused by employment status such as female sex workers (WPS). The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with HIV incidence in WPS. The study used a descriptive analitic research design with a cross sectional approach. The location of the study in the VCT clinic in the Padang Bulan Medan Health Center working area. The population of this study were all WPS who conducted examinations at the Padang Bulan Health Center. The sample of this study amounted to 140 people. Data analysis by Chi Square and multiple logistic regression. The results showed that there was a relationship between age (p = 0.004), education (p = 0.035), marital status (p = 0.001), age at first time having sex (p = 0.001), consistency in condom use (p = 0.0001) and knowledge (p = 0,0001) with HIV incidence in WPS. The conclusion was that there was the between age, education, marital status, age at first having sex, consistency of condom use, knowledge of HIV incidence in WPS. It is recommended that health workers at the Padang Bulan health center should approach WPS routinely to be localized to conduct HIV examinations in VCT clinics and provide information on prevention of HIV transmission by using condoms.

Abstract

Background: Utilization of voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) services in male sex with men (MSM) at Tomuan public health center, in Pematangsiantar is still relatively low (34.4%). The low utilization of VCT services in MSM is related to the perception of seriousness and the possibility of taking action. This study aimed to analyze the influences of perceived seriousness and cues to action on the use of VCT in MSM.Subjects and Method: This was a cross sectional study carried out at Tomuan health center in Pematangsiantar, North Sumatera, in 2017. A sample of 61 MSM was selected for this study. The dependent variable was VCT use. The independent variables were perceived seriousness and cues to action. The data were obtained by questionnaire and analyzed by a multiple logistic regression.Results: Utilization of VCT in MSM increased with perceived seriousness (OR= 11.28; 95% CI= 1.24 to 102.89; p=0.032) and cues to action (OR= 11.45; 95% CI= 1.02 to 128.34; p= 0.024).Conclusion: Utilization of VCT in MSM increases with perceived seriousness and cues to action.Keywords: perceived seriousness, VCT utilizationCorrespondence: Lambok Nita Situmorang. Abstract

A healthy city connotes a city that is clean, comfortable, safe and healthy for inhabitants, which is achieved  through  the  implementation  of  the  arrangements  and  agreed  activities  between communities and local government units. Healthy house is one indicator of a healthy city. A healthy house meets the health requirements as measured by three parameters: components of house, sanitation facilities and the behavior of occupants. This study aimed to analyze if the houses in Medan qualify for the attainment of a healthy city, determine the knowledge of community in terms of healthy house, healthy city and the role of community, and to find out if there is a significant relationship between the role of community and having a healthy house. The study design used is survey with quantitative and qualitative approaches. Research sites were the 21 districts in the city of Medan wherein 400 respondents were selected through proportional random sampling. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that in the city of Medan, only 30% of houses were healthy and 70% were not. 63.0% of the respondents have good knowledge about healthy house  and  57.8% have good  knowledge about healthy city. Furthermore, the community perceived to have played a good role as much as 75.5% in the effort to realize a healthy home/city. The community’s role has a positive and significant effect on healthy house in efforts to achieve a healthy city in Medan (p = 0.04). It is recommended that the government of Medan City draw up a program of healthy house and healthy city and involve related stakeholders, increase  community  participation from  the  beginning of  planning  stage  in  order  to  increase community involvement in the implementation of development and formation of Healthy City Forum.

Abstract

The number of elderly people in Indonesia from year to year is increasing in line with increasing life expectancy. The number of elderly people reached 7.56% of the population. Certainly, the increase in  the  elderly population will be  followed by  an  increased risk  for the  elderly to  suffer from degenerative diseases. This study aimed to assess the role of degenerative disease screening and health counseling to the quality of life of the elderly in the health post (Posyandu Lansia). This study was a descriptive analytic with prospective approach by assessing 100 elderly people. Screenings done for examination of blood pressure, blood sugar level, cholesterol level, uric acid level, and urine protein. Assessment of quality of life done by using questionnaire of WHOQOL. The elderly in Posyandu Lansia were educated in accordance with the results of the screening and followed up for 4 months. Screening results showed that most elderly people had high blood pressure (89% had high systolic blood pressure and 70% had high diastolic blood pressure). As much as 55% of elderly people had cholesterol levels ≥ 200 mg/dl, while blood sugar levels as ≥ 200 mg/dl were 20% of the elderly and only 20% of respondents who had uric acid levels that exceed normal limits (8,5mg/dl). As many as 13 of respondents indicated a positive result in urine protein. Assessment of the quality of life of elderly based on the score at first examination obtained a mean of 88.26 ± 9.1. Regarding general health status, 21% of elderly felt less satisfied, 47% declared that their health status in normal conditions and 32% felt satisfied with their current health status. The score of quality of life after receiving counseling, obtained a mean of 89.31 ± 7.8. Assessment of general health status showed only 11% of elderly declared unsatisfactory health status. Result of t test showed that there was a significant difference between score of quality of life before and after screening degenerative diseases (p0.05). Screening of degenerative diseases   showed a majority of the elderly had a potential risk to suffer from degenerative diseases. Prevention through screening and health counseling particularly in  Posyandu Lansia can  reduce  morbidity and  mortality in  elderly,  and therefore it will improve quality of life for the elderly

Abstract

ABSTRACK Lactation management is all that is needed to support successful breastfeeding so the baby can be fed properly. The goal of management is to increase the use of exclusive breastfeeding until the baby is 6 months old, with affection facilities. lactation Management begins during pregnancy (antenatal), immediately after birth (prenatal) and the postpartum period (post-natal). This research aims to determine the behavior of pregnant women in lactation management for the success of giving exclusive breastfeeding in the workplace of Health Center,Padang Bulan Medan. This research is a quantitative study that belongs to descriptive survey. The population in this study are pregnant women who visited the health center in Padang Bulan on August 2012, amounting to 39 people. The research sample is the entire population. Based on the results obtained that as many as 79.5% of pregnant women have moderate knowledge, also 79.5% have moderate attitude and 79.5% of them have moderate action aswell. In accordance with the results above, it is recommended that pregnant women  to further enhance the knowledge of lactation management. Health care workers should also be able to provide better service by providing lactation management information during antenatal care. The Department of Health is also expected to have to devise  a lactation management program in a structured, and train the health workers in the management of lactation and oversee its implementation in the field.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   The searching process for medical care or treatment is a process that can not be separated from human’s life because every people in their lives is never detached from disease problem. Four medication pattern that developed in Desa Patumbak Kampung is by self medication healing to the disease suffered, by using the traditional medication, by using modern medication, and the fusion between traditional and modern medication. The purpose of this research is to describe behaviour of medication in  Dusun VI Desa Patumbak Kampung. This research is a descriptive research with quantitative methodology approach. The result is analyzed descriptively and quantitatively, and presented in percentage amount. The respondence that have been interviewed are 81 respondences. Data collected by questionnaire module, as a guide of inquiry during the interview. The results of this research shows, most of the respondence by the age 18-40 years old, is about 53,1%. The majority of unemployed respondence is about 61,7%. Respondence’s education is include in the mediocre level is 71,6%. The respondence’s average earning that > Rp 1.201.000,- is about 71,6%. Public Health officer is include in the low category as much as 72,8%. Famili support is included in the mediocre category by 56,8%. Print/electronic media is included in the high category by 37%. The knowledge level of the repondence is in mediocre level, at 60 respondences(74,1%). The respondence’s behavior  is in the mediocre level, as much as 51 respondences (63%). And for the respondence’s action is in the low level, as much as 44 respondences (54,3%). Based on the research, it is recommended for Patumbak Public Health Service ( Puskesmas Patumbak) to be more sensitive and serious in order to minimalize the obstacle such as the officer’s behavior that still not optimal( less action) in giving the medication service or socializing the health information.

Abstract

ABSTRACTSchool age children are susceptible to oral health problem, SDN 054936 Sub Wonorejo Sei Lepan Langkat District located closest to The Old Village district health center services Sei Lepan. Visits to the school age children oral poly very small and there are many children who have cavities.This study aims to determine the mother’s behavior regarding the use of oral health services to school age children in Elemantary  School district 054936 Sei Lepan Langkat district. This type of research is descriptive. The population in this study were 71 mother by using stratified random sampling.The result showed that the use of oral health services school-age children , Mom had a relatively good knowledge (73.3%), attitudes were moderate (60.5%), the belief that good dental and oral health services (97,2%) , distance to the mother's home dental care at the health center less than one kilo meter (69%) , maternal income each month is less than Rp 1.200.000,- (69%), health insurance form JAMKESNAS (69%), support family members were moderate (63.4%) support the husband (23.9%) and 62% did not support family members. The conclusion of this study is largely Mom did not take advantage of dental and oral health services (56.3%) but utilize health services outside the dental and oral health care that is (29.6%). It is therefore expected to be more health centers provide outreach and information to the mother about the importance of dental examination before the advent of dental complaints in children and to take her to participate in monitoring oral health of children and work to improve mother and child visit the dental and oral health services at the health center.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a cronik infeksius disease is contagious. Indonesia is ranked third after India and China in contributing to the number of TB cases in te world. The role of family is very effective and efficient in supporting the healing of tuberculosis patients because it is not put forward in the form of material reward in ret but motivated by the perceived family closeness by sincere devotion, patience, love, compassion and responsibility as the implementasi of the value of  faith. This is descriptive study with a quantitative approach. Results quantitatively analyzed descriptively portrayed in the percentage. The samples taken were 44 respondents using total sampling technique. Results showed te majority of respondents were female as many as 59,1%. The majority of respondents were aged 44-49 years of age. Education respondents are mostly elementary school and majority of respondents work is a housewife. Respondents role in preventing tuberculosis in the middle category as 77,3%. Respondents role in the process of tuberculosis treatment in the middle category as 90,9%. Respondents in order to fulfill the role of nutrition in the middle category as 70,5%. Expected to families in order to improve the prevention of transmission of tuberculosis in the family. In addition to enhanced performance clinic Kota Datar health workers in providing information about tuberculosis and can empower family members of patient with tuberculosis to be an active part of te cure of tuberculosis.
