Abstract

Abstract : The purpose of the study is to to know how well picture improves the students’ vocabulary about adjective to describe people for the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Melayu Rayak in academic year 2013/2014. The observation check list and field notes were used to take notes about teaching learning activities which related to the used of picture to teach vocabulary.  Based on the research findings that had been conducted by the researcher, it could be seen that there were some improvement on students’ vocabulary achievement by using picture. On the first test the means score was 52.6 and the mean score of the second test was 77. These mean scores indicated that there were some improvements in the students. The processes done by the teacher in the classroom worked. Therefore the tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Melayu Rayak in Academic Year 2013/2014 could improve their vocabulary score achievement by using picture. Action hypothesis showed that picture can improve the students’ vocabulary achievement. Keywords : Teaching, Vocabulary, Picture Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui seberapa baik gambar meningkatkan kosakata siswa tentang sifat untuk menggambarkan orang untuk siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Melayu Rayak di tahun akademik 2013/2014. Dalam penelitian tersebut. Pengamatan check list dan catatan lapangan yang digunakan untuk mengambil catatan tentang kegiatan belajar mengajar yang berkaitan dengan yang digunakan gambar untuk mengajar kosa kata. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian yang telah dilakukan oleh peneliti, dapat dilihat bahwa ada beberapa perbaikan pada prestasi kosakata siswa dengan menggunakan gambar. Pada tes pertama skor sarana adalah 52,6 dan nilai rata-rata dari tes kedua adalah 77. ini berarti skor menunjukkan bahwa ada beberapa perbaikan dalam siswa. Proses dilakukan oleh guru di kelas bekerja. Oleh karena itu Siswa Kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Melayu Rayak di Tahun Akademik 2013/2014 bisa meningkatkan nilai kosakata prestasi mereka dengan menggunakan gambar. Aksi hipotesis menunjukkan bahwa gambar dapat meningkatkan prestasi kosakata siswa. Keywords : Mengajar, Kosa Kata, Gambar

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this research was to improve students’ participation in listening comprehension class using Simon Says Game. This research was conducted on the eight grade students of MTs Negeri 1 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. The subject was class VIII E that consisted of 40 students. The researcher conducted a classroom action research which was done in two cycles. The data were collected using observation, measurement, and recording technique. The tools of data collection were scoring rubric, observation checklist, field notes, and handy camera. The result of data analysis showed that Simon Says Game was able to improve students’ participation. The students could give and act out the instructions well. It was shown that the students’ mean scores in giving the instructions improved from 1.68 (cycle 1) to 2.15 (cycle 2). Meanwhile, the mean score of acting out the instructions was improved from 1.83 (cycle 1) to 2.28 (cycle 2). It can be concluded that the students’ participation in listening comprehension class improved. In other words, this technique can help the students give instructions and act out the instructions correctly.  Keywords: Participation, Listening Comprehension Class, Simon Says Game

Abstract

AbstractThe research investigated whether using short-stories as a teaching media was significant to teach students adjective. It was a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. There were 38 students of VIII D learning group who participated in this research. The data were collected by objective tests and analyzed using t-test and effect size formula. The research found that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The obtained t-value (8.75) was bigger than the critical value of r (1.678) by the degree of freedom 37. The effect size was categorized high since the ES value was 1.41 and bigger than 0.8. To conclude, teaching through short-stories is significant and very effective to teach adjectives to Year – 8 students of “SMPN 21 Pontianak” in Academic Year 2017/2018. Key Words: Short-stories, Adjective, Teaching Media

Abstract

Abstract:. This research was conducted for the purpose of analyzing the students’ speaking activity on English Day at SMA Taruna Bumi Khatulistiwa in academic year 2012/2013, the program is applied in two days in a week, Tuesday and Thursday. It is organized by students Organization (OSIS). In this program, students are obligated to use English in for any communication purposes.In this research the writer applied descriptive method as the technique of collecting data. The sample of this research was 10th grade 30 students, 11th grade 24 students, grade 12th 18 students. In collecting the data, the researcher provided a set of questionnaire statements with 25 test items and she also applied  observation the use of English by the students on English day for any communication purposes. Based on the questionnaire Students have many problems in Linguistics and psychological. Meanwhile from the observation, writer saw that English day can help the students to practice their English not only in the classroom, but also outside the classroom. Most of the students communicated in English on English day programs. Therefore, it can concluded that English day program can facilitate the students to develop their speaking ability although some linguistic and psycholinguistic were still occurring, Keywords: Speaking Activity, English Day Program Abstrak: Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk menganalisi aktivitas berbicara siswa menggunakan Bahasa Inggris dalam Program English Day di SMA Taruna Bumi Khatulistiwa tahun pelajaran 2012/2013 yang diterapkan 2 hari dalam seminggu, yaitu hari Selasa dan Kamis. Program ini merupaka program yang dikelola oleh OSIS  Dalam program siswa diwajbkan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris dalam semua kegiatan. Dalam penelitian ini penulis menerapkan metode deskripsi. Sample dalam penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa kelas X, 24 orang siswa kelas XI dan 28 siswa kelas XII. Pada pengumpulan data, penulis menggunakan questioner dengan 30 pernyataan dan melakukan observasi Berdasarkan questioner siswa banyak mengalami masalah yang berkenaan  dengan masalah Kebahasaan dan masalah Psikologis. Sementara itu  berdasarkan observasi penulis menyimpulkan Program English Day dapat menunjang siswa untuk berbicara menggunaka Bahasa Inggris baik di dalam kelas maupun diluar kelas. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa Program English Day dapat meningkatkan kemampuan dan aktivitas siswa dalam menggunakan Bahasa Inggris meskipun masih terdapat kendala dengan masalah-masalah yang berkaitan dengan masalah kebahasaan dan masalah psikologis.
