Abstract

Changes on the mangrove ecosystem, directly and indirectly, affect the living organisms associated with it, including Molluscs. This study aimed to investigating Molluscs species in mangrove ecosystem of Kendari Bay. It is descriptive research containing facts and natures of mangrove Mollusc species. This study conducted from September to November 2020. Observing and collecting the Mollusc organisms were carried out in four mangrove ecosystems like Bruguiera, Bruguiera/Rhizophora, Rhizophora, and Avicenia.  The method used in this research was an exploring technique by collecting and counting the found Mollusks. Indicators of observing the Mollusks included morphological characteristics and environmental parameters. Three important environmental parameters, like salinity, acidity (pH), and temperature, were measured during field works using hand refractometer, pH tester, and thermometer, respectively. This research indicates about 279 individuals of Mollusks found in all zones consisting of 17 species representing two classes, Gastropod (14 species) and Bivalves (3 species). During this research, the Gastropod Mollusks found Telescopium-telescopium, Terebralia palustris, T. sulcata, Cerithideopsilia cingulata, C. alata, Nerita squamulata, Cerithidea quadrata, C. obtusa, Latirus paetelianus, Cerithium kobelti, Chicoreus capucinus, Nassarius stolatus, N. niticusis, Siphonalia varicosus. For the three species of Bivalves are Polymesoda erosa, Anadora granosa, and  Sacostrea cucullata. The both species T. sulcata and S. cucullata positively dominated all total found Gastropods and Bivalves namely 21.86% and 3.943%, respectively. The three water quality parameters measured at research stations are still on tolerance limits for the collected molluscs. Keywords:   Molluscs, Mangrove Ecosystem, Kendari Bay

Abstract

Pongok Island possesses small islands surrounded by waters with some primary commodities of sea farming. Seeking appropriate locations for marine aquaculture is a careful planning step to acquire optimal results. The sustainability of sea farming areas should be set based on considering species for easy implementation. This research aimed to analyse the area's suitability for aquaculture activities of seaweed cultivation, rearing groupers, and lobsters in floating net cages, and pearl oyster farming.  This research occurred from June to November 2022 in Pongok Islands, South Bangka Regency, Indonesia. The method used in this research consisted of parameters weighting and scoring for cultivating seaweeds, groupers, or lobsters utilizing floating net cages and pearl oysters.  Sea water samples analysis was processed in the Marine Science Laboratory of Bangka Belitung University and PT Global Quality Analytical, Bogor – West Java.  Collected data were then scaled based on expert justification of scaling priority on aquaculture suitability. The mapping area of sea farming locations based on potential resources was then determined using map software. This research indicates that cultivating seaweeds is recommended to be established in two stations, 1 (149.79 ha) and 2 (186.46 ha), that are very suitable (S1) and the suitable (S2) categories, respectively. Station 3 (325.41 ha) and 4 (4.11 ha) are grouped into very suitable (S1) categories for pearl oysters and groupers or lobsters using floating net cages, respectively. The total estimate for sea farming in the waters of Pongok Island is 665.77 ha. Allocating seawater spaces should be assigned for sustainable fishery management. Maps of area suitability for sea farming can obviate conflicts in seawater areas.

Abstract

Kayu Arang Village has high potential biological resources, such as Satang shrimp and Tirus Fish in the Kayu Arang river area. The wealth of biological resources in the Kayu Arang River is also supported by the existence of mangrove ecosystems that have high density and nature. The mangrove ecosystem really needs to be developed to improve the condition of Arang wood village. The development of mangrove ecosystems in Kayu Arang must first be calculated Tourism Suitability Index, so that the potential of mangroves for ecotourism can be known. This is because mangrove ecosystems have enormous potential and benefits, and contribute to increasing community income. Some stages of this research study include: sausagealization of mangrove ecotourism and providing understanding of mangrove potential, collecting mangrove data (density, mangrove species, growth), endemic biota both in sediments (macrobenthos), rivers (fish, shrimp, crabs) and aboreal (monkeys, birds). The next stage is to see the level of suitability of the mangrove area of Kayu Arang Village to become ecotourism. Therefore, this research study aims to determine the potential of mangrove ecosystems to be used as mangrove ecotourism areas in Kayu Arang Village, West Bangka. The results of the mangrove ecosystem suitability analysis show that the mangrove area in Kayu Arang Village can be used as an ecotourism area. With government support, it will be able to accelerate the realization of an ecotourism area in Kayu Arang Village, West Bangka. LoA, Plagiarism
