Abstract

This study discusses John Wansbrough's thoughts on Alquran interpretations, which emphasize the two important points as its focus of the study; interpretation paradigm and positioning of the scriptural interpretations. Based on the content analysis method as its analytical tool from the various works, both those directly and indirectly related to Wansbrough's thoughts, the results of this study showed that there are two lines of understanding of interpretations: first, the interpretation is seen as an act of interpreting the scriptures, in which in its process there are rules, work procedures, and thinking patterns that continue to grow. The existence of an exegete becomes a parameter of the interpretations produced. Interpretation and exegete are two things that are interrelated each other. Second, interpretation has an exegetical device inherent in the interpreter, which then produce the exegetical types of explicative elements or procedural devices used by an interpreter.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas akal sebagai sebuah nalar berfikir dalam tradisi usul fikih. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kategoris-kritis, untuk melihat dan memetakan porsi, posisi dan proporsi akal sebagai alat atau metode dalam melahirkan hukum Islam. Artikel ini diharapkan bisa memetakan dan menempatkan akal secara bijak dalam peran dan aktivitasnya sebagai perangkat dalam mengeluarkan hukum Islam. Meletakkan akal sebagai metode berfikir hukum Islam di tempatnya secara proporsional. Memberikan pandangan mengenai penggunakan akal sebagai sebuah concern dalam tradisi kajian usul fikih. Serta menghilangkan justifikasi negatif mengenai penggunaan akal dalam melahirkan hukum agama.

Abstract

This article discusses the mindset of Arab society towards religion which is answered and it was changed after the Koran came. This relationship is dialectic, the Arab community as khitab al-Quran. The approach used by the social history of social psychoanalysis. With this approach, this article found some important conclusions. (1) Social history emphasizes that geographic factors, psychological, and social culture have shaped their social siko. Psycho-social impact on their perspectives on God and Religion. God was related to a god (dewa) who can help the biological necessities of life, although not psychologically soothing. As the unsound of the psico-social condition, the way they understand the religions is not correct. They profess religion, somehow does not feel the presence of God. The more they worship Gods, the more discrepancies, social injustices, and tyranny happen. Responding to that matter, the Quran apply persuasive method as the advice (al-din al-nasihah), and discussion (jidal) as their way of thought on religion. (2) The Qur'an came alter their patterns of psychological evolution, from an-nafs al-ammara as bi-su society into an-nafs al-lawwamah, until in the end, they had a quiet soul (an-nafs al-Mutmainnah)

Abstract

This article discusses the Jorge J.E. Gracia’s hermeneutical concept used as an alternative theory of the Qur’anic textual interpretation. The discussion focuses on three main points, (i) the Qur’anic textual narration as the object of interpretation, (ii) Gracia’s hermeneutic to interpret the text, and (iii) arranging the Qur’anic textual interpretation paradigm. Based on the interpretive study, started with mapping Gracia's theory of understanding, and then systematizing it into the theory formulation, the results of the study showed: (1) the concept of qur'anic text (alnash) is the ultimate consciousness. The Qur'an is something readable/touchable (almaktub). As an alnash, Qur'an has a text mechanism in which its contextual approach becomes the main gate to open its meaning. (2) The Gracia's hermeneutic logical reasoning is directed to overcome misunderstanding (not understanding) of the text. While the development of textual interpretation method used to bridge between the historical text and the audience’s situation. (3) The paradigm of the textual interpretation used as a worldview to look at the Qur'an and its interpretation, with the concept of "alnash" as its starting point, and then working with emphasizing the existing understanding among text, audience, and context.

Abstract

This article discusses the Qur’anic semantic within hermeneutic discourse. The classical interpretation of the Qur’an (I-IV H) is set to be the subject matter to be discussed within the framework of hermeneutic. By doing so, the article is expected to contribute to giving a new formulation of the classical interpretation discourse on the Qur’an. Besides, the article is also expected to discover the new theory about Qur’anic hermeneutic which operated in the sphere of text. The classical Qur’anic semantic has shown the contestation which not only did it appear in the sphere of meaning (dilalah), but more deeply in played a dialectics of language between oral notion (al-Qur’an/kalam) and the recipient (khitab al-Qur’an).

Abstract

This article focuses on reinterpreting inherited verses using Ahmad an-Na'im's reading pattern. Interpretative-explorative analysis. This analysis produces several conclusions: (a) Reading for reality is an alternative view to revive the Qur'an so that it has a paradigm in looking at reality. (b). In the analysis of the inheritance verse (Surah An-Nisa 'verse 11), reading of reality, the acceptance of the inheritance doubled from the portion received by women, shows the superiority of men over women, because of some illat. Whereas in the reading for reality analysis, the Al-Qur'an presents new regulations on inheritance. This regulation can be used in giving birth to the Qur'an fiqh concerning inheritance in the present context.

Abstract

In the scientific tradition, the study of Islam in the orientalisme is not stagnant, but has experienced development. This article focuses on the arguments of Nabia Abbot's argument and theory in refuting Goldziher's theory of the study of hadith. The author calls it a counter discourse. At least this article found three outlines of Nabia Abbot's rebuttal to Goldziher: (a) the theory of authenticity, Goldziher said the hadith was not an authentic report but a form of doctrinal reflection during the first two centuries after the prophet Muhammad. Abbot denies he views this view as wrong because it ignores historical evidence. For Abbot the hadith had appeared early in the century, as evidenced by the oral hadith of Muawwiyah (d. 60/680), Marwan (d. 65/684) and Abd Malik bin Marwan (d. 86/705). (b) Isnad's theory. Goldziher mentioned that the growth of the hadith in the third century Hijriyah was due to the history of history and the fabrication of the hadith. Nabia Abbott has argued with the argument that the number of hadiths is due to the growth of the hadith path in the geometric progression, not forgery. (c) Hadith Writing Theory, Goldziher said that the early hadith did not have a written reference, only oral, so the hadith in the form of thoughts could not be verified. Abbot denied, he said, that the beginning had been carried out in the narration and the modification of the hadith. Besides there are a number of books of hadith as in the text of Hammâm b. Munabbih (40-131 / 132 H).

Abstract

This article discusses the concept of maqāṣid al-sharīʻah (the goal of sharia) as a basis of the interpretation of the Qur'an. The points to be discussed are focused on two lines, namely the paradigm of tafsīr al-maqāṣidī (the goal interpretation) and the configuration of the reason of tafsīr al-maqāṣidī. The approach used is the hermeneutic approach within the framework of the structure of the interpretation system. It is by using the approach and the analysis, this article draws conclusions to the three lines of the understanding on the tafsīr al-maqāṣidī: (1) The paradigm of tafsīr al-maqāṣidī is the perspective toward the Qur'an and its interpretation along with the concept of maqāṣid al-sharīʻah as the starting point, working with the emphasis on the harmonization between the text and the spirit of justice as has been conceptualized in the theory of maqāṣid al-sharīʻah. Thus, tafsīr al-maqāṣidī emphasizes logical reasoning for the public benefit to be more powerful than the text reasoning. (2) Hermeneutical reasoning of tafsīr al-maqāṣidī is supported by three pillars of awareness: the historical, theoretical, and practical awareness. The three pillars are then actualized in the step of interpretation covering: contextualization, decontextualization, and ends with a re-contextualization. (3) As a system of interpretation, tafsīr al-maqāṣidī passes the way of interpretation through the rules of linguistic, the analysis of hermeneutics and the analysis of public benefit (maṣlaḥah). Abstract

Sejarah tafsir memperlihatkan karya tafsir yang memiliki genre fiqhi dengan pola penafsiran yang memainkan analisis istinbat dalam mengeluarkan hukum dari sebuah teks/ayat. Pola pemaknaan seperti ini melahirkan sebuah produk hukum yang menjadi rujukan sebuah madzhab dalam fuqaha’. Al-Jami’ li Ahkam al-Qur’an karya al-Qurtubi adalah tafsir yang memainkan genre ini. Tafsir ini memiliki genre tahlili-fiqhi bermadzhab Maliki. Artikel ini menggabungkan pola analisis penelitian tafsir dan usul alfiqh untuk mengkaji pemikiran al-Qurtubi. Kajian terhadap tafsir al-Qurtubi menghasilkan beberapa kesimpulan, (a) Istinbat at-Tafsir berarti mengkonstruksi paradigma tafsir fiqhi sebagai metode Istinbat dalam memahami dan merumuskan hukum Islam dari sebuah teks/ayat. Istinbat at Tafsir juga bermakna merumuskan metodologi interpretasi yang digunakan mufassir dalam membentuk pemikiran akidah dan amal syariat. (b) Interpretasi sebagai alat istinbat diaplikasikan oleh al-Qurtubi secara baik dalam tafsirnya, ia menggariskan metodologi interpretasi secara sistematis (c) Istinbat at-Tafsir dalam tafsir al-Qurtubi terhadap QS. An-Nisa’: 3menghasilkan kebolehan hukum poligami, ia menggunakan istinbat lafzi pada lafadz fankihu sebagai sebuah kebolehan dan perintah

Abstract

“The tradition of Ta’wil al-Qur’an has not developed as rapidly as the tradition of interpretation. It could be that this is because the study of the ta'wil of the Quran has received less attention, even though the history of the representation of the Quran is very developed. This article Discuss the history of the ta’wil al-Qur’an in the Ahl as-Sunnah Theology tradition. The study framework used is the history of thoughts/ideas. Within the framework of this study, this article finds several conclusions: As an exegetical method, classical Islamic discourse has developed many ta'wil as a means of interpretation and theory in understanding the text of the Qur'an. The Historical Discussion of thinking about the ta’wil of the Qur'an in the tradition of ahl as-Sunnah shows the development of the diversity of thoughts and knowledge used in interpreting the al-Qur'an. Ibn Qutaybah in Ta'wil Musykil Al-Qur'an uses linguistic analysis, gives birth to linguistic takwil (at-ta'wil al-lughawi), al-Ghazali wrote Qanun at Ta’wil which depicts the work of the Qur'anic representations with a ta'wil Theological, al-Razi wrote Mafatih al-Ghaib with a style of thought ta'wil falsafi, Ibn' Arabi wrote al-Futuhat al-Makkiyyah with a Sufistic interpretation / ta'wil, and asy-Syatibi wrote al-Muwafaqat offering a paradigm of Ta 'wil Ushuli.”
