Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of problem-based learning approaches to improve students' mathematical communication skills. The study was conducted at SMP Negeri 1 Pangkalan Susu in the odd semester of the 2019/2020 school year with a population of all grade VII students and a sample of 30 students. The instrument uses a validated test. Both classes were given a post-test after treatment. Before testing the hypothesis, the requirements are normality test, it turns out that both data are normally distributed and the homogeneity test turns out to be both homogeneous data. From the results of hypothesis testing using the t-test obtained tcount (3.018)> ttable (1.671) where Ha is received. From the determination test results obtained 13.6% while 86.4% influenced by other factors. This means that there is an influence of the use of problem-based learning on mathematical communication skills of students of SMP Negeri 1 Pangkalan Susu.

Abstract

Challenges in the increasingly complex world of education are demanded in accordance with the existence of the era of advances in technological integration. In the era of society 5.0, the occurrence of modernization in mathematics learning is proportional to the needs of the millennial generation. The purpose of this study is to look at learning mathematics in the era of society 5.0 according to the goals and ideology of mathematics education. Furthermore, mathematics learning solutions in competing in the implementation of mathematics learning. The transformation of society 5.0 era makes it easier for students and teachers in learning mathematics where students are expected to be more influenced, think dynamically, be productive in realizing an exciting education. Mathematics learning can use ICT in accordance with the goals and ideas of Mathematics education where the experience of learning mathematics can develop children's creativity. So that the implementation of the ideology and goals of mathematics education in the Era of Society 5.0 are: mastery of digital technology, distributing cultural change, pedagogical development, personality-social competence, expansion of professionalism, and innovative-creative-adaptive.

Abstract

Ethnomathematics is a culture-based learning concept in the context of mathematics. The presence of mathematics with cultural nuances will make a major contribution to learning mathematics. The purpose of this study is to identify and describe mathematical objects and concepts found in Malay culture at the Kamu market. This type of research is qualitative research with ethnographic methods. Data analysis techniques used are literacy studies, observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the culture at Kamu market has various ethnomathematics concepts found in traditional cakes from various regions such as Katimus cakes, Gadong cakes, Dangai cakes, Karas cakes, Lapet cakes, and Putu Bambu cakes. The mathematical concepts found are geometric shapes such as rectangles, spheres, cuboids, isosceles triangles, quadrilateral pyramids, and cylinders. This ethnomathematics exploration can be used as a learning medium that is expected to help and add insight into understanding the concepts of flat shapes and geometric shapes in learning mathematics.Keywords: ethnomatematics; culture; geomteryAbstrakEtnomatematika merupakan konsep pembelajaran berbasis budaya dalam konteks matematika. Kehadiran matematika yang bernuansa budaya akan memberikan kontribusi besar dalam pembelajaran matematika. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi dan mendeskripsikan objek dan konsep matematis yang terdapat pada budaya Melayu di pasar Kamu. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan metode etnografi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah studi literasi, observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa budaya di pasar Kamu memiliki berbagai konsep etnomatematika yang terdapat pada kue tradisional dari berbagai daerah seperti kue Katimus, kue Gadong, kue Dangai, kue Karas, kue Lapet, dan kue Putu Bambu. Konsep matematika yang ditemukan adalah bentuk-bentuk bangun geometri seperti persegi panjang, bola, balok, segitiga sama kaki, limas segiempat, dan tabung. Eksplorasi etnomatematika ini dapat digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran yang diharapkan dapat membantu dan menambah wawasan dalam memahami konsep bangun datar dan bangun ruang dalam pembelajaran matematika.Kata Kunci: etnomatematika; budaya; geometri

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan perangkat pembelajaran pokok bahasan Aljabar berorientasi problem Based Learning berupa Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD)  yang valid, praktis, dan efektif. Pengembangannya mengikuti 10 langkah pelaksanaan strategi penelitian dan pengembangan, yaitu: (1) Pengumpulan Informasi (Research and information collecting), (2) Perencanaan (Planning), (3) Pengembangan desain/draf produk awal (Develop preliminary form of product), (4) Uji coba lapangan awal (Preliminary field testing), (5) Revisi hasil uji coba lapangan awal (Main productrevision), (6) Uji lapangan (Main field testing), (7) Penyempurnaan produk hasil uji lapangan (Operasional product revision), (8) Uji lapanganoperasional (Operasional field testing), (9) Penyempurnaanprodukakhir (Final productrevision), (10) Diseminasi dan implementasi (Dissemination and implementation).  Subjek yang dilibatkan dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa x-2 SMA Nusantara Lubuk Pakam. Produk yang dihasilkan telah memenuhi aspek validitas, kepraktisan, dan keefektifan. Karakteristik dari perangkat pembelajaran yang dihasilkan adalah LKPD dominan memuat persoalan yangberhubungan dengan praktik, menuntun siswa dalam melakukan penyelidikan dalamrangka menemukan dan membangun konsep, prinsif, maupun formula, saranapelaksanaan ekslporasi, elaborasi, dan konfirmasi dalam pembelajaran.
