Abstract

Human dependence on motorized vehicles is getting higher and uncontrollable. This actualization will certainly have an impact on reducing fuel stocks and air pollution with soot emissions. Combining diesel fuel with jatropha and alcohol is predicted to reduce dependence on diesel fuel and air pollution. Supplying the combustion chamber with exhaust gas/Exhaust Gas Recirculation/EGR is also predicted to reduce soot emissions and reduce fuel consumption. This study aims to observe the effect of using the EGR system on the use of mixed fuel jatropha and ethanol exhaust gas temperature/EGT as an indication of performance and soot/smoke opacity as exhaust emissions. The experimental results show the use of the EGR system increases EGT and Smoke opacity decreases the diesel engine in each fuel variation. D100 fuel EGT increased 1.67%, DJ10 increased 0.71%, DJ10E increased 0.67%, DJ20 increased 1.45%, DJ20DE increased 1.07%, DJ30 increased 1.50%, and DJ30E fuel EGT increased by 1.47%. While on the emission side, the smoke opacity of D100 fuel decreased by 1.84%, DJ10 decreased by 1.71%, DJ10E decreased by 2.21%, DJ20 decreased by 0.96%, and DJ20E decreased by 2.33, DJ30 decreased by 2.99%, and DJ30E fuel decreased 1.30%.

Abstract

Castor oil is an alternative fuel as a substitute for diesel fuel. The property that approaches diesel fuel makes jatropha oil help reduce fossil fuel dependence. Abundant raw materials and high cetane properties make castor oil widely used as fuel in diesel engines. This study aims to observe the consumption of fuel and soot emissions produced by diesel engines using a mixture of diesel fuel with castor oil content of 30%. Based on the results of experiments that have been carried out, fuel consumption and soot emissions have increased. The highest increase occurred in SJ30 fuel at 25% loading. Low heating value is a major cause of increased consumption and soot emissions.

Abstract

Increased vehicle volume causes a high use of fossil fuels and increased exhaust emissions. Butanol is a renewable fuel that can replace fossil fuels. This is because butanol has better characteristics than gasoline such as high octane value and oxygen content. This results in a more complete combustion process in the combustion chamber so that engine torque and power increase. This study was to observe the effect of using butanol on torque and power in gasoline engines with the EGR system. This test is carried out using a constant engine speed of 2500 rpm. The percentage of butanol in premium fuel is 5%, 10% and 15% of the total fuel volume. The test results show that the addition of 5% butanol to premium fuel can increase torque by 4.88% using a cold EGR system. Engine power experienced the highest increase in the addition of 15% butanol using a cold EGR system of 15.6 kW.

Abstract

SMK is a school that produces graduates who are competent and ready to work. However, the Covid-19 outbreak forced students to study at home so the competency of SMK graduates was less than optimal. Student competency improvement training is the solution to this problem. Training activities on the use of injection simulators at Bina Nusa Slawi Vocational School are one of the activities to increase student competency. This training was attended by 20 class XII students majoring in TBSM. This training was carried out through several stages, namely the preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. The implementation stage starts with the pre-test session, material presentation, demonstration, and practicum. The final stage is training evaluation. The results of the evaluation of learning outcomes show that students' understanding of internal combustion engines and injection systems has increased compared to before attending the training. Evaluation of satisfaction shows that students are satisfied with the instructor's delivery method, the usefulness of the training, and the development and improvement of training in the future. This is proven by the average student assessment on the questionnaire, which is above 3.
