Abstract

Polymer foam composite reinforced by oil palm empty fruit bunches has been developed and with the addition of variations of Al2O3 (alumina) powder as an alternative engineering material on car bumper beams. The purpose of this study is to obtain the results of a comparison of mechanical responses on the two types of bumper beams obtained from experimental results and dynamic simulations using ANSYS Software. The results of the stress distribution that occurs using ANSYS, for bumper-beam type 1 is 0.14122 MPa, 0.1527 MPa, 0.13427 MPa, and 0.1887 MPa for axis x, y, z, and equivalent stress, respectively. Bumper-beam type 2 stresses that occur on the x, y, z, and equivalent stress is 0.011818 MPa, 0.01137 MPa, 0.018746 MPa, and 0.03718 MPa, respectively. The results can be concluded that the addition of Al2O3 (alumina) powder to the bumper beam composition can improve its mechanical response.

Abstract

This research utilizes corncob waste as activated carbon to be adsorbent. The objective of this research is to obtain the effect of corncob and sago powder as matrix composition in reducing vehicle exhaust gas emission. The composition used is 60 grams in every dough. It will be tested three times experimental which is 80:20, 70:30, 60:40 of corncob and sago powder variation of the composition, respectively. The result shows that the number of CO, HC, and CO2 decreases to 0.24%, 75.87%, and 5.9%, respectively. The conclusion from this research show that activated carbon from corncob greatly affect exhaust gas emissions in a vehicle.

Abstract

Indonesia kaya akan sumber bahan pangan. Namun, masih banyak bahan pangan yang belum dimanfaatkan potensinya secara maksimal. Salah satu bahan pangan tersebut adalah Singkong. Tanaman ini merupakan bahan baku yang paling potensial untuk diolah menjadi tepung, salah satunya adalah tepung mocaf. Permasalahan yang terjadi adalah pengolahan tepung mocaf yang diproduksi oleh mitra belum bisa dimanfaatkan secara maksimal. Hal ini disebabkan karena kurangnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam mengolah makanan berbahan dasar tepung mocaf pada ibu-ibu di Desa Sumberejo, Kecamatan Pagar Merbau, Kabupaten Deli Serdang. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, solusi yang dilakukan untuk menyelesaikan masalah adalah dengan memberikan pelatihan tentang ragam olahan makanan dari tepung mocaf serta pendampingan dalam praktek pembuatan produk makanan tersebut. Pelatihan dan pendampingan dilakukan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan serta keterampilan dalam membuat berbagai olahan dari tepung mocaf. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah diskusi, wawancara, edukasi, pelatihan dan pendampingan melalui tahapan persiapan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada bulan November tahun 2021. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah meningkatnya pengetahuan masyarakat tentang pemanfaatan tepung mocaf dan kemampuan terkait bagaimana membuat berbagai produk makanan dari tepung mocaf yang memiliki nilai gizi dan nilai jual yang tinggi. Indonesia is rich in food sources. However, many foodstuffs still have not been utilized to their maximum potential. One of the foodstuffs that can be processed into food is sweet potatoes, or what we commonly call cassava. This plant is the most potential raw material to be processed into flour, one of which is mocaf flour. The problem is that the processing of mocaf flour produced by partners has not been utilized optimally. This is due to the lack of knowledge and skills in processing food based on mocaf flour in mothers in Sumberejo Village, Pagar Merbau District, Deli Serdang Regency. Based on these problems, the solution to solve the problem is to provide training on the variety of processed foods from mocaf flour and assistance in the practice of making these food products. Training and mentoring are carried out to improve knowledge and skills in making preparations from mocaf flour. The methods used in this community service activity are discussion, interview, education, training and mentoring through the stages of preparation, implementation and evaluation. The result of this activity is the increasing public knowledge about the utilization of mocaf flour and related abilities to make various food products from mocaf flour that have high nutritional value and selling value.

Abstract

This study discusses the performance of boiler without and with insulation as a parameter that affects the performance of boiler. The purpose of this study is to compare the performance of boiler without using an insulator and with an insulator. The performance of the boiler is seen from the length of time reaches a boiling temperature at a pressure of 5 bar, the decrease in boiler temperature after reaching a pressure of 5 bar, and the duration of the boiler pressure reaching a pressure of 5 bar. The research method used was 14 liters of water and 4 kg of coconut shell. The first research was carried out without using insulation, furthermore it was continued by isolating the boiler using glasswool with the same conditions. The results obtained in boilers without and with glasswool insulation are very significant. Where the duration of boiling water is up to 41 minutes and 25 minutes, respectively. In addition, the final temperatures after 77 minutes and 118 minutes were 88.4 oC and 145 oC, respectively for boilers without and with insulators. The conclusion in this study states that the insulator greatly affects the performance of the boiler.

Abstract

The production of coconut and durian means that it will produce a lot of waste from its shell. Indonesia is a country that produces a lot of them. The coconut shell (CS) and durian fruit peel (DFP) can be converted to briquette as new fuel from biomass.  The objective of this research is to obtain the calorific briquette properties of CS and DFP using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC).  The material composition consist of 10 % and 15 % of starch for each CS and DFP. Thermal treatment was carried out in the temperature range of 28 °C to 600 °C at 5.4 °C/min. The addition of starch causes the heating temperature since it has thermoplastic properties. Additionally, it is difficult to burn and carries a lot of water so that the heat generated is used to evaporate the water first of all in the briquettes. The recommended material is CS with 10 % mass of starch. The optimum temperature reached was 578.97 °C with an enthalpy value of 0.42 J/g.

Abstract

ABSTRACTCattle farmers in Sengon Sari Village are one of the farmers who have problems in managing cow dung waste. They still have been able yet to manage cow dung waste so that it has an impact on environmental safety and health of community. Utilization of cow dung waste as the main ingredient of organic fertilizer by utilizing a combination chopper and stirrer machine is an alternative solution that can be chosen. The purpose of this community service activity is to solve partner problems. The implementation method is carried out by observation, discussion, lecturing, and working practice which is carried out in three stages, namely the preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The results of the activities run effectively with the resolution of partner problems. Partners earn additional income with organic fertilizer products from cow dung waste. The knowledge and skills of partners increased for making organic fertilizers with a combination chopper and stirrer machine. Cow dung processing into organic fertilizer is one form of good business management. The result show that with a combination chopper and mixer machine, fertilizer manufacturing activities can run well, effective, and efficient. Keywords: machine; effective; environment ABSTRAKPeternak sapi di Desa Sengon Sari merupakan satu di antara peternak yang mengalami permasalahan pengelolaan limbah kotoran sapi. Peternak belum mampu mengelola limbah kotoran sapi sehingga berdampak pada keamanan lingkungan dan Kesehatan masyarakat sekitar. Pemanfaatan limbah kotoran sapi menjadi bahan utama pupuk organik dengan memanfaatkan mesin kombinasi pencacah dan pengaduk menjadi solusi alternatif yang dapat dipilih. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan mitra. Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan dengan observasi, diskusi, ceramah, dan praktik kerja yang dilakukan dalam tiga tahapan yaitu tahapan persiapan, tahapan pelaksanaan, dan tahapan evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan berjalan secara efektif dengan terselesaikannya permasalahan mitra. Mitra memperoleh pendapatan tambahan dengan produk pupuk organik dari limbah kotoran sapi. Pengetahuan dan keterampilan mitra tentang pembuatan pupuk organik dengan mesin kombinasi pencacah dan pengaduk meningkat. Pengolahan kotoran sapi menjadi pupuk organik merupakan salah satu bentuk manajemen usaha yang baik. Hasil yang diperoleh dengan mesin kombinasi pencacah dan pengaduk, kegiatan pembuatan pupuk dapat berjalan dengan baik, efektif, dan efisien. Kata Kunci: mesin; efektif; lingkungan

Abstract

KJJ merupakan industri rumahan yang memproduksi kerupuk jangek berbahan kulit sapi. Proses produksi kerupuk sering terganggu jika musim penghujan datang dikarenakan proses pengeringan sangat bergantung pada panas matahari. Pemasaran produk sangat konvensional dengan memajang produk di depan rumah. Kemasan produk tidak dilengkapi logo dan terkesan tidak menarik. Kegiatan PKM ini bertujuan membantu memecahkan permasalahan dan memberikan solusi dibidang produksi dan pemasaran. Tahapan pelaksanaan PKM meliputi pra-persiapan, persiapan, pelaksanaan, evaluasi dan monitoring. Pemberian materi pelatihan, dan pendampingan TTG mesin pengering hybrid kulit sapi dan strategi pemasaran diberikan ke mitra. Hasil pengabdian menunjukan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan tentang teknologi pengering sistem hybrid dan perbaikan kemasan produk dapat meningkatkan kuantitas, kualitas produk dan pendapatan.
