Abstract

Cell phones have become a major part of the society in daily life - today. The use of mobile phones has spread in every community, rural and urban. SingTel, Hutchison, Comindo Axiata and Indosat are some operators cellular telecommunications network that use UMTS and HSDPA technology. The parameters that determine the power level and the quality of the signal strenght of each operator is known as RxLevel (the Receptiom Level) for GSM and the RSCP (Received Signal Code Power) in order to WCDMA. One of methods for analyzing to measure that parameters is a drive test which use RF signal tracker software. This research will compare a drive test method with simulation method, where the simulation using radio mobile software. The location of this research is in some protocol streets on Pekanbaru, such as Jend. Ahmad Yani, Gajah Mada and Diponegoro. The result shows that Telkomsel has the best signal strength in protocol streets on Pekanbaru with -62.335 dBm, followed by XL Axiata with -66.323 dBm, then Hutchison with -74.401 dBm. The lowest signal strenght is operator Indosat with the value -85.84 dBm.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of telecommunications technology based on Internet Protocol (IP) is now growing with the competitiveness of the telecommunications company to improve the quality of service to consumers. It can be obtained by increasing the quality backbone network using Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS). MPLS is a new technology to forward the packet to the backbone network without changing the existing network structure. The main idea is to construct a replacement MPLS paths using label switching and distribute traffic into it. This paper compare the Qualty of Service (QoS) on Non-MPLS backbone network to MPLS backbone network with OSPF routing protocol on the PT. Telecommunication Indonesia, Tbk. Witel Ridar Riau. The Software simulation using Graphical Network Simulator (GNS3) is analyze by observing QoS are delay, packet loss, throughput, and jitter with Wireshark. In this research, there are two scenarios that will be analyzed. The first scenarios analyze the customer site make deliveries to one another customer site and the second scenarios analyze two customer sites make deliveries to the customer site simultaneously. The results show that the highest delay in the first scenario is better MPLS backbone network at 0.029999 s and 0.0124 s in the second scenario than Non-MPLS backbone network. It Followed by the highest value of packet loss on the network backbone MPLS and non-MPLS are equal 0% and in the second scenario, MPLS is better 0% than non-MPLS. The Throughput has same trend with the highest value in the first scenario MPLS backbone network is better 0.0085 Mbps and 0011 Mbps in the second scenario than Non-MPLS backbone network. Meanwhile the highest jitter values in the first scenario MPLS backbone network is better too at 0.3595995 s and 1.544403 s on the second scenario than the non-MPLS.Keywords : MPLS, OSPF,GNS3, QoS, Wireshark.

Abstract

FM demodulator is used to demodulate signal in FM receiver. Demodulation process is performed to recover the information signal. The information signal is 3.4 kHz which ismodulated with a carrier signal of 19 kHz. FM demodulator is designed with PLL (Phase Locked Loop) method, it used the concept of phase locking signal. FM demodulator withPLL method consist of four blocks, that is phase comparator, second-order Butterworth LPF, VCO wienbridge, and buffer amplifiers. Design of FM demodulator trainer begins with calculate to determine the component value which suitable with cut off frequency. The next process to make the layout of the pcb board, dissolution layout, pcb board drilling, mounting the female connectors to pcb board, installation of component connectors to the header, and make a box to place trainer FM demodulator. The results obtained at each signal FM demodulator block is different. Demodulated signal is obtained at the buffer amplifier block, where the signal is same as the output signal at function generator is 3.4 kHz.Keywords : FM Demodulator, Demodulated Signal, Phase Look Loop, Carrier Signal, Information Signal.

Abstract

This research discuss the designing of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) in Engineering Faculty of Riau University. LAN of Engineering Faculty is connected through fast ethernet 100baseT cable and the backbone is connected through fiber optic. The project is designed using OPNET Modeler 14.5 Educational Version which consist of two skenario, VoIP network without router and with router. In the VoIP network with router, the network performance is measured by First-In-First-Out Queuing (FQ), Priority Queuing (PQ) and Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ). The results showed that the value of MOS network with router (4.1 ) is more steadier than the network without router. The best performance of voice application is found in the routerand PQ network, where packet delay, jitter and Mean Opinion Score (MOS) are 330 ms, 0.9 ms, 4.1 respectively. Furthermore the best performance of video conference application is found in the same network where packet delay and jitter are 0.6 secondsand 0.2 seconds.Keywords :VoIP, network, Packet Queuing

Abstract

Forest fire is a problem that always occurr in the tropic areas when entering the dry season. To be able to anticipate forest fire early, it is necessary to have a remote detection system. WSN is one of systems that can detect and monitor forest fire remotely by placing node sensors on the location. In this application, there is a possibility that node sensors burned because of fire. This paper aims to investigate the performance of clustering routing protocol applied in WSN for forest fire application. There are three clustering routings analyzed; LEACH, LEACH-C and Modified LEACH.. Simulations were carried out using NS-2.35 software with measured parameters were throughput, packet loss, and energy consumed. The simulation results show that when the number of burn nodes increases, the throughput and packet loss of LEACH and LEACH decrease. Mean while , these performance index tend to stable in Modified LEACH. In term of energy consumed Modified LEACH the same pattern as in the throughput and packet loss. There is a significant in the number of energy consumed on LEACH-C in contrast, it rise slowly in LEACH.Keywords : Clustering Routing Protocol, WSN, Forest fire

Abstract

In order to supply the water for laying hens farm in Kubu Cubadak Simpang Petai, the service team from University of Riau has designed a water purification system using the filtration technique. Before designing the filtration, sample of water from the well around the farm is taken and analyzed in the laboratory. Based on this result, the filtration is characterized to get the water satisfying the needs of the farm. There are two tubs in the filtration system containing silica sand, zeolite, and active carbon. Water from the well is pumped to the tank with three-meter height. From there, water is pumped back again to the tube to get the optimal water flow. The quality of water from the filtration have enhancement in terms of color, turbidity, and pH. The color and turbidity of water are improved from 41 NTU to 0 NTU and from 22,5 NTU to 5,59 NTU, respectively. Furthermore, there is an increasing in pH of water, from 5,44 to 6,32. These results have fulfilled the standard for laying hens farm.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat Terintegrasi Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (LPPM) Universitas Riau merupakan kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat dosen yang dijalankan secara bersamaan dengan kegiatan Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KUKERTA) mahasiswa. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dirancang berdasarkan kebutuhan masyarakat lokasi Kukerta. Kegiatan pengabdian kali ini berupa penerapan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi dengan merancang sebuah alat Sistem Smart Monitoring Kualitas Air berbasiskan internet of thing (IoT) di Kelurahan Tirta Siak, Payung Sekaki, Pekanbaru. Alat ini mengubah cara pengujian air baku yang konvensional yang biasanya dilakukan dengan cara membawa sampel ke laboratorium. Sistem Smart Monitoring Kualitas Air Sungai ini menguji sampel air dengan meletakkan sensor kekeruhan dan pH di lokasi yang ditentukan, kemudian data diproses oleh Arduino Mega 2560 untuk melakukan pembacaan nilai parameter pH dan kekeruhan air sungai, nilai yang didapat dari proses pengukuran tersebut dikonversikan dari bentuk analog ke bentuk digital untuk ditampilkan ke antar muka berupa website. Dengan adanya alat ini diharapkan kualitas air Sungai Siak di titik lokasi dimana alat dipasang dapat terpantau. Sehingga dengan adanya pemantauan secara langsung dengan data real time ini dapat pula merubah perilaku masyarakat terutama masyarakat Pekanbaru terhadap kualitas air Sungai Siak dengan demikian kebersamaan masyarakat dalam menjaga kualitas lingkungan akan terbangun.

Abstract

One alternative energy that is easy and can be used is wind. This energy is utilized through wind turbines which have two general types, namely horizontal and vertical axis wind turbines. This wind turbine can move by utilizing the energy available in the wind to rotate the turbine. The problem with wind turbines is self-starting is difficult to achieve. This can be caused by several factors, such as slow wind speed and erratic wind direction. In addition, wind turbines also have low-efficiency values. Therefore, our contribution to this research is to design a blade controller on a vertical axis wind turbine. This blade control is designed by utilizing the pitch angle by using actuators that are applied to each blade based on the Proportional, Integral & Derivative (PID) algorithm. The PID algorithm is used to find the appropriate pitch angle value on a vertical axis wind turbine. The effect of the pitch angle on the wind turbine serves to maintain the mechanical power value by the available power in the wind. This research was conducted using a simulation method (MATLAB). In this study, it was found that this wind energy conversion simulation produces maximum mechanical power when the wind speed varies is 1723 Watt and when the wind speed is 7 m/s, mechanical power achieved is 362.595  Watt.

Abstract

Transmission control protocol (TCP) employs acknowledgement (TCP-ACK) for every transmitted packets to ensure reliable transmission. As a result, it sends the next window packets after receiving the TCP-ACK packet of previous window. This means that the earlier the TCP-ACK packet arrives, the faster the TCP next window transmission and the better the TCP performances. To do so, there should be a special treatment to the transmitted TCP-ACK to fasten next window transmission. This paper proposes a collision probability reduction for the transmitted TCP-ACK packets so that the overall TCP delay reduces. Collision probability reduction can be implemented in many ways. Initially, mathematical analysis is provided to prove that method can work as expected. The mathematic analysis shows that when TCP-ACK collision probability is reduced, the overall TCP delay is also reduced. The proposed method is then implemented in 802.11, 802.16 and complex networks. The NS-2 simulations evaluations for the aforementioned networks and the proposed method proved that collision reductions on TCP-ACK exert average TCP delay reductions about 11.86%, 28.04% and 9.46% subsequently.The proposed method is also applicable for other TCP types.
