Abstract

Distance to a health care facility has long been discussed as a key barrier to maternal health care utilization in rural areas.  Maternity Waiting Homes (MWHs) has been proved to the reductions of maternal mortality. The objective of this study was to investigate the pregnant women’s Willingness to Pay (WTP)  toward the maternity waiting homes (MWHs).  The cross-sectional study was conducted in two rural areas in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The data were collected through survey which was distributed to pregnant women and their families. A total of fifty-one pregnant women and forty-nine families participated in the study as two groups of respondents. For the results of this study, there were 66.7% of pregnant women agreed if they should stay at MWHs. For a group of pregnant women, the amount of WTP which was capable to be paid was 100.000 IDR in a month. Moreover, for a group of family, the amount of WTP which they could pay for staying at MWH was 200.000 IDR in a month. The pregnant women’s acceptance to stay in MWH is good, but their willingness to pay is still very low.

Abstract

Background: Smoker’s motivation is essential to support the success of smoking cessation intervention by the chosen method. The percentage of active smokers in a university is 29.2%, and 303 people (77.6%) have moderate to high motivation to quit smoking. Objective: The study was aimed to measure student motivation to quit smoking and identify the factors that influencing them to start consuming cigarette. Methods: The study method was cross sectional using cluster simple random sampling for sampling method among 271 smoking students in eight different faculties. Results: Among the smoking students, most of them starts smoking when they were teens, in an age range of 12 to 15 years old. Peer influence was among the higher risk factor inviting them to initiate consuming cigarette. Conclusion: Smoking prevalence among youth was increased among other age, and the influence of social environment or peer group was the greatest among the other smoking factors. It is important to involve peer support group to help smokers in quitting smoking.

Abstract

Background. This study aims to determine the relationship between age and changes in physiological conditions of the elderly in Posyandu Ngudirahayu independence Tlogo Tamantirta Kasihan Bantul.Methodology. The study was observational research using cross sectional and correlation analyzed. The sample size is 44 elderly and the sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data collection instrument Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), questionnaires HHIE-S and Katz index. Test this hypothesis using Spearmans Rho correlation test.The results showed respondents of 60-74 years old is 61.4% and 75-90 years as much as 38.6%, The results of Spearman’s Rho correlation was the relationship between the age and level of independence of the elderly signifi cance value (p) = 0.001 (p 0.05 ) and the value of the correlation coeffi cient (r) = 0.479. Respondents with mild joint pain (25.0%), moderate joint pain (52.3%) and 22.7% of severe pain the results of Spearman’s Rho correlation was the relationship between the joint pain with a level of independence elderly signifi cance value (p) = 0.019 (p 0.05) and the value of the correlation coeffi cient (r) = 0.351. Respondents with mild-moderate of auditory function as much as 45.5%, signifi cantly much as 15.9%, and 38.6% as much as normal, the results of Spearman’s Rho correlation was the relationship between auditory function with a degree of independence of elderly signifi cance value (p) =0.080 (p 0.05) and the value of the correlation coeffi cient (r) = 0.267. Level of independence of the respondents classifi ed as fully independent (type A) 54.5%, partially independent (type B, C, D, E, F) of 27.3%, and dependence (type G and others) as much as 18.2%.Conclusion. A signifi cant relationship between age and joint pain to the elderly independence, but for variable auditory function was not related to the independence of the elderly.Keywords: Elderly, Age, joint pain, auditory function, level of independence

Abstract

The smoking prevalence among youth aged more than 15 years old and so, raising 34,8 % of male and 2,7 % among those female one. Thus, health education program is needed in order to improve youth knowledge on the negative impacts of smoking. This study has been conducted among students of Mexhanical Engineering school in Uni- versitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. This study was a quasy-experimen- tal study. The sample were 52 students who smoked and were divided into two groups, intervention and control gruop. The sampling tech- nique used was random sampling method. Test analysis used Wilcoxon test and Mann-Whitney for attitude. Results : The analysis test showed there was a significant effect of Self Help Group (SHG) on attitude with p=0,000 (0,05). There was a differences on knowledge between inter- vention and control groups with p=0,000 (p0,05). This new inven- tion on health education method using social media, is important to be developed. Facebook as one of the easy platform of social media to access, will giving more benefit to the community in achieving distance health education.
