Abstract

ABSTRACTSeagrass ecosystem has a function of spawning, nursery, and feeding ground. Besides, it could be used as a bio-indicator of environmental health. This study of seagrass ecosystem was done in 17- 22 May 2014 in Lembeh Island and Tanjung Merah, Bitung. The purpose of the study is to obtain existing condition of seagrass ecosystem and its role as environment bio-indicator. Purposive sampling method was used representing all study sites. Structure analysis of seagrass communities describes the existing condition, while scoring / weighting method estimate current condition of the seagrass. Results that show there are seven species of seagrass. In the stations opposite to Bitung mainland, 75% of the seagrass are Enhalus acoroides (10-50% covers). Importance value index of the seagrass species were Enhalus acoroides (231–300 %), Thalassia hemprichii ( 102–198 %) and Halophila ovalis (110 %) respectively. Based on the weighting method and environmental standard quality, seagrass ecosystem in Lembeh island opposite to Bitung mainland was in damage and unhealthy condition, while seagrass ecosystem opposite to the open sea was in a good and healthy condition. This was due to the domestic waste that is trapped in seagrass ecosystem in the study site. It is necessary to improve awareness to maintain quality of environmental.  Keywords: seagrass, existing, bioindicator, Lembeh Island

Abstract

Wakatobi Regency has a huge capacity in natural resources with its beautiful and pristine coastal ecosystems that host 25 coral reefs species in diverse forms. The regency is considered as the world’s best biosphere and frequently visited by local and international tourists for diving/snorkeling. The objectives of this study are to determine the role of marine tourism in Wakatobi’seconomy and formulate an appropriate and strategic policy for its marine tourism development plan. Methods used in this research are theLocation Quotient (LQ) analysis to determine the relative ability of a sub-area to a wider area in the specific sector, and theProspective Participatory Analysis for preparing the marine tourism development plan. The LQ analysis for the marine tourism (trade, hotels, and restaurants) sector based on GDP data from 2004-2007 shows values ranging from 0.808-0.881, which indicate poor potential and low contribution of this sector toWakatobi’s economy. TheProspective Participatory Analysis involving 18 variables related to marine tourism development indicates that Wakatobi Regency has four key variables. These are:community behavior towards environmental protection, community character, human resources andmotivation. These variables would play an important role in preparing and implementing marine tourism development plan in Wakatobi Regency.

Abstract

Kata kunci: hidrodinamika, budidaya mutiara, arus, pasang surut ABSTRACTSekotong is one of the islands in Indonesia located in the province of West Nusa Tenggara. One of potential Sekotong waters is pearl farming. The type of pearl is commonly cultivated from the Pinctada maxima species. One of the factors that affect the successfulof pearl farming is the selection of the right location that must lie in the calm waters and must avoid the movement of large currents. The optimal flow rate for pearl cultivation ranges from 10−25 cm/sec. Analysis of current and tidal velocity is done with MIKE 21 software. The purpose of this research is to analyze hydrodynamics and relate it to the condition of Sekotong waters is West Nusa Tenggara well used as the location cultivation. The modeling and measurement result, there are mixed tidal type tend to be double (mixed predominantly semi diurnal) and the modeling results show that the location of the sekotong waters is suitable for the pearl cultivation location shown by the velocity of modeling current is 20.11 cm/sec.Keywords: hydrodynamics, cultivation of pearl, currents, tidal

Abstract

Kata kunci: Cirebon, garis pantai, erosi, akresi, panturaABSTRACTThe damage of coastal area in Northen Java has been known for decades. As part of Northen Java Coastal, Cirebon coastal area suffered from severe damage due to erosion-abrasion phenomenon and turned to be a fundamental problem in coastal area management. This research analyses Cirebon coastal changes by analising shoreline changes induced by long term sedimentation and erosion processes. Landsat data in 1999 and 2013 are used in shoreline change analysis. The sattelite analysis results are verified by field observations and coastal communities interview in June 2013. The results show that the coastline dynamics of Cirebon are strongly influenced by hydro-oceanography aspects, coastal morphology and human activities. This result provides valuable information on the latest conditions of coastal area in Cirebon and this can be used as basis for land use management and future mitigation of costal areas. Keywords: Cirebon, coastlines, erosion, accretion, pantura
