Abstract

Natural composting process takes a long time so many products developed bio-activator such as Mol. This study aims to determine the effect of concentration of activators Mol Tapai on the quality of the compost produced. Composting methods do facultative. Composting is done in the reactor to the size of the reactor used with d1 = 28 cm; d2 = 28 cm; t = 40 cm; air exchange hole diameter of 1 cm to 5 cm distance between holes. Variables used are sterile compost raw material variation and non-sterile as well as variations in the number of Mol Tapai is 200 ml, 250 ml, and 300 ml each treatment. Composting research results with a variety of raw materials by variation Mol fermented sterile 250 ml obtain C / N ratio and a high of 11.35% in non-sterile raw material variation with 250 ml Mol variation of 10.67%, which is in accordance with SNI 19-7030 -2004 about the specifics of mature compost.Keywords: Mol Tapai, palm oil sludge, compost

Abstract

Composting is one of the best methods for handling empty fruit bunch (EFB) waste. This research aims to learn effect variation of additions Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) in composting process of EFB spent paddy straw mushroom (Volvariella volvacea) toward C/N ratio. Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) was added gradually (in day 0, 7th, and 14th) and variation of substrate mixture (EFB spent paddy straw mushroom : POME) are 1:0; 1:1; 1:2; and 1:3. The result shows the composting process finish in the day 7th (faster than research estimate, with 1 time POME addition) and the best variation of substrate mixture is (D) (1:3). Abstract

The utilization of fossil energy sources overload resulted in the availability of energy sources depleting and should be offset by the provision of alternative energy renewable, abundant amount, and the cost price is so affordable by the public, one of which is briquette. Palm oil mill sludge is one of the wastes at the palm oil processing. Palm oil smill sludge with the addition of rubber seed shells can be used as raw material for making briquettes through the carbonization process. This study aims to study the effect of particle size variations on the proximate analysis of the briquettes produced. Variations of particle size were 60, 80, and 100 mesh with the composition of palm oil mill sludge and rubber seed shells were 60%:40%. The results showed that the best briquettes were obtained at 100 mesh particle size with 4% moisture content, 4.5% ash content, 9.3% volatile matter and 82.2% fixed carbon.Keywords: briquettes, carbonization, rubber seed shell, palm oil mill sludge

Abstract

The empty fruit bunch (EFB) is a solid waste produced in large quantities byindustrial processing of palm oil through 23% of fresh fruit bunches (FFB). EFB is a waste of lignocellulose containing lignin, hemicellulose, and cellulose. The high lignin content in the EFB affects the length of decomposition period. It can be accelerated by adding of white mushrooms, one of paddy straw mushroom (Volvariella volvacea). This research aims to examine the effects of paddy straw mushroom in degrading lignin, C/N, and the effect of adding POME with residual EFB of the mushroom media to the C/N ratio, content of N, P, and K. The method used within two variations of planting mushrooms is precisely by mixingand spreading. The best planting is by implementing the mixed variation with the degradation results of lignin toward EFB of 10.582% and the value of C/N ratio of 38.8. The composting process used in-vessel system and the effect of variation in adding 1 kg of POME, 1.5 kg of POME, and 2 kg of POME to EFB. The greatest value of C/N ratio in adding 2 kg of POME equal to 15.13%. Nitrogen content (N) of 2.64 %, Phosphorus (P) equal to 1.10 %, and Potassium (K) equal to 1.10 % is in accordance with the standard of compost quality of Indonesian Standard National 19-7030-2004.Keywords : Empty fruit bunches, paddy straw mushroom, lignin degradation, POME, invessel system , composting

Abstract

The process of palm oil mill wastewater treatment produced by-product as sludge. Sludge generated made a problem for environment and for industry when no handling and processing of the sludge. The purpose of this research is to reduce the pollution of palm oil mill wastewater by composting method with sludge, boiler ash and fiber (fiber) material of palm oil. Sludge mixed with boiler ash, fiber, and domestic wastethen added activator EM-4. Thisstudy used variety of activators EM-4  for 0,5%, 0,7%, 0,9% and control as comparator to optimize the composting process. The result showed that the compost with activator EM-4 for 0,7% likely matured faster because C/N ratio was suitable of SNI 19-7030-2004 and did not shows  significant differences. Compost matured in the 21th day  with result (C-org 27.22; Ratio of C/N  = 10.76;). Based on these results, palm oil sludge can be used as compost by using activators EM-4.  Keywords : activators EM-4, boiler ash, compost,  fiber, palm oil sludge

Abstract

The main constraint faced in the utilization of lignocellulosic organic waste is lignin content that is difficult to degrade both enzymatically and chemically. One solution to solve the problem is by composting method with the addition of Trichoderma viride and MOL Tapai. Composting TKKS using windrow method for 40 days. The study was conducted by varying the dosage of Trichoderma viride and MOL Tapai fungi by 50 ml Trichoderma viride, 50 ml MOL Tapai, 25 ml Trichoderma viride + 25 ml MOL Tapai, 35 ml Trichoderma viride + 15 ml MOL Tapai and 15 ml Trichoderma viride + 35 ml MOL Tapai. Measurement of lignocellulose using Chesson-Datta method. The results showed that the pH reached at the end of composting in each reactor was pH 7, the temperature during composting took place at the thermophilic condition with the highest temperature of 660C at R2, R3, and R5, 650C at R1 and R4, water content at the end of composting at each reactor is R1 35,86%, R2 37,67%, R3 37,20%, R4 35,01%, and R5 35,75%, value of C / N ratio at end of composting in each reactor ie R1 14.35, R2 13.22, R3 13.06, R4 14.20, and R5 14.35. The lowest lignocellulose value at the end of each composting was Hemiselulose 13.96% in variation R4 (TKKS + Trichoderma viride (35 ml) + MOL Tapai (15 ml)), Cellulose 14.22% in variation R4 (TKKS + Trichoderma viride (35 ml) + MOL Tapai (15 ml)), and lignin 13.56% in variation R5 (TKKS + Trichoderma viride (15 ml) + MOL Tapai (35 ml)).Keywords : lignocelluloses, Trichoderma viride, MOL Tapai

Abstract

The waste problem in Indonesia is a very complex issue. The example of waste that have huge amount of quantities is beverages cans. Waste cans can be reduced by utilizing from recycle the aluminum content to be the main material of potassium alum (KAI (SO4) 2.12H2O). In this study used carbonated drinks. The concentration of aluminium in soda cans is 84%, the concetration can be determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (ASS). The variables used in this study is variation of KOH concentration whitin 20%, 30%, and 40% and the variation of H2SO4 concentration whitin 6M, 8M, and 10 M. From the results of this study showed optimum yield is 98.52% occurred at a concentration of 40% KOH and H2SO4 8M. Characteristic of this alum is having insoluble part in water of 0% and 5.39% aluminium in alum.Keywords : Cans, potassium alum

Abstract

Hospitals as health facilities that are curative and rehabilitative should be free of pollutants such as particulate matter. One cause of the particulate matter in the hospital is incineration. Hospital incinerators that burn trash in hazardous / infectious, so it is necessary to determine the level of distribution of the particulates produced by burning incinerator. This research is a descriptive study using dispersion method gauss with Screen View program. Parameters that are seen medical waste generation, particulate concentrations, wind direction and wind speed, and distance distribution of particulates. The data obtained are presented in the form of graphs and tables. The highest particulate distribution on the wind direction is north east with the concentration of 2.32 μg / m3 at a distance of 100 m from the incineratorat a distance of 100 m from the incinerator emissions rate 0.00957 g/s, 0.38 stack inside diameter and 9 m stack high.Key word: incinerator, particulate, screen view, wind direction, wind speed.

Abstract

One of the alternative energy sources can be used as a substitute for fossil fuel-based energy is bioethanol. One of the raw material is rice straw ethanol. Rice straw can be used as raw material for bioethanol production because many contain cellulose. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics 2012 hay production in Indonesia reaches 64-96 million tons / year. This study aims to determine the optimal amount of yeast and NPK required in the manufacture of bioethanol once saw statistically influence of yeast and NPK against ethanol concentration produced, and test the density and viscosity of bioethanol fermented rice straw. This research was conducted by the method Separate Hydrolysis and Fermentation (SHF), with the addition of yeast transformed variables tape (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%) and the addition of NPK (0, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% ). Bioethanol fermented bioetanolnya concentration measured using Alkoholmeter and bioethanol characteristic tests by measuring the density and viscosity. From hasi lpenelitian, obtained the highest ethanol concentration is 6% achieved on the addition of yeast 15% and 20% NPK. Density and viscosity of ethanol in the amount of 0.8482 g / ml and 1.6809 cP achieved with the addition of yeast 15% and 15% NPK.Keywords: bioethanol, rice straw, Saccharomyces cereviciae, cellulose

Abstract

Petroleum reserves are depleted in Indonesia along with increased fuel requirements, demanding Indonesian society to harness alternative energy, one of which is biofuel. In this study, biofuels produced from cracking fatty acids contained in Destillate Palm Fatty Acid (PFAD). PFAD converted into biofuels via catalytic cracking process using a catalyst Ni.Mo / Zeolite with reaction temperature 380 oC in a stirred batch reactor. Metal concentrations in the zeolite was varied at 0%, 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% and the variation of the reaction stirring 300 rpm, 400 rpm, 500 rpm and 600 rpm. Cracking process using nitrogen gas with a flow rate of 150 ml / min. Yield (%) of the product obtained at the maximum stirring speed of 500 rpm with a metal concentration of 1%, amounting to 71.43% or 125 ml with 31.53% biofuel conversion. The composition of biofuels on cracking products was 8.8% and 35% Gasoline Kerosene and Diesel.  Key Words: Biofuel, Catalytic Cracking, Ni.Mo/Zeolite, PFAD
