Abstract

This training and mentoring for the application of the composter is part of an integrated community service activity with Kukerta students at the University of Riau in 2021. This activity was carried out in RT/RW 03/09 Sidomulyo Barat Village, Tuahmadani District, Pekanbaru City. The purpose of this activity is to implement Komposter as processing organic waste into compost, reducing waste production and environmental pollution. The participants of this activity were mothers from housing residents as many as 65 people. The method used in this activity includes an understanding of making composter and compost from household waste. The series of activities consist of 1) exposure to composting; 2) Composting practices and how to use a composter, 3) Monitoring the composting temperature, pH and humidity. Through this training and mentoring activity, participants gain knowledge and experience in making composters to produce compost. Participants also feel that this activity can reduce waste, air pollution due to the smell of organic waste by using it as compost which is useful for growing vegetables or ornamental plants and can also reduce waste generation in Final Disposal Sites (TPA).

Abstract

Tandan kosong sawit (TKS) sebagai salah satu limbah padat hasil pengolahan tandan buah segar kelapa sawit, yang memiliki potensi sebagai sumber energi alternatif yaitu sebagai briket biomasa, dengan karakteristik memiliki energi panas 20.093 kg/kJ dan energi kalor sebesar 5.698 kal/gr.  Dalam pemanfaatannya, briket ini dapat berdampak pada kualitas udara dalam ruangan, salah satunya adalah karena gas SO2 yang diemisikan selama pembakaran briket TKS ini. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menentukan besarnya konsentrasi gas SO2 di ruangan dapur  selama pembakaran briket dan melakukan pengendalian pada kondisi pengukuran yang melebihi Baku Mutu Kualitas Udara Ambien. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan alat impinger pada ruangan yang memiliki ventilasi sebesar 5% dari luas lantai ruangan dapur dan kemudian sampel dianalisis dengan menggunakan AAS. Hasil pengukuran diketahui besarnya konsentrasi gas SO2 sebesar 0,16 ppm yang melebihi baku mutu dari PerMen Kes 1077/2011 (0.1 ppm), sehingga perlu dilakukan pengendalian untuk mengurangi emisi yang dihasilkan. Pengendalian yang dilakukan adalah mengatur bukaan ventilasi yaitu pada ventilasi 10% (sesuai standar penyehatan ruangan dari PerMen Kes 1077 tahun 2011) dan pada ventilasi 15%. Diperoleh hasil pada ventilasi 10% sebesar 0,106 ppm SO2 dan pada ventilasi 15% terukur 0,09 ppm SO2.. Berdasarkan hasil ini dapat dinyatakan bahwa pembakaran briket tandan kosong sawit dengan kondisi pembakaran pada bukaan ventilasi 15%, aman digunakan sebagai bahan bakar alternatif dalam skala rumah tangga.

Abstract

The habit of littering is carried out in almost all circles of society, not only the poor, even those with higher education do it. Organic waste and plastic waste are the largest waste generated by households. Processing organic waste into compost and utilizing plastic waste into ecobricks are service activities that have been carried out at Putri Tujuh II Housing Estate, Pekanbaru. This service activity aims to provide understanding and application to residents in managing household waste, so it is hoped that there will be awareness of the importance of waste processing in reducing waste generation in Final Disposal Sites (TPA). The method used is socialization, field practice which is continuously accompanied by the implementing team until the end of the service period. The result of this activity is an increase in public knowledge about processing waste into compost and ecobricks that can be used at home, but there is a decrease in the level of awareness at the end of the activity. This is because residents are no longer assisted in carrying out waste processing activities, so it can be concluded that continuous team assistance is needed until there is a commercial container to accommodate the results of waste processing carried out by residents

Abstract

Tofu industry produce wastewater with low pH and high pollutant parameters, such as BOD, COD, TSS. Therefore, it is necessary to have a wastewater treatment plant so as not to pollute the environment and cause health problems. The purpose of this community service activity is the application of appropriate technology for processing liquid waste in the tofu industry in Pekanbaru City with a combination of equalization, filtration and phytoremediation processes. This service activity includes several stages, namely counseling to provide understanding to partners about the importance of treating waste, followed by building a liquid waste treatment plant and the application of liquid waste treatment technology. The sewage treatment plant consists of 3 concrete tanks that consisting of equalization, filtration (using coral, porous plastic, jute, gravel, and sand as filter media) and phytoremediation (using water hyacinth plants). This activity has a very positive effect for the owners of tofu industry. The levels of BOD, COD and TSS decreased significantly after the application of this wastewater treatment technology.

Abstract

Produksi minyak sawit yang tinggi berbanding lurus dengan produksi limbahnya. Lumpur kelapa sawit merupakan larutan buangan yang dihasilkan selama prosespemerasan dan ekstraksi minyak.Limbah lumpur kelapa sawit disamping sebagaisumber hara makro dan mikro yang penting bagi tanaman, juga sebagai sumberbahan organik dan berperan pada perbaikan sifat fisik dan kima tanah. Limbahpadat lainnya yang belum dimanfaatkan secara maksimal adalah serat buahkelapa sawit yang juga mengandung unsur hara. Dari kedua potensi limbahpadat kelapa sawit menunjukkan bahwa sangat perlu dilakukan pengolahankhususnya pada limbah lumpur dan serat buah dimana berdasarkan hasil analisalaboratorium mengandung unsur hara yang baik untuk dikonversi menjadi pupukkompos. Mikroorganisme lokal (MOL) adalah mikroorganisme yangdimanfaatkan sebagai starter atau aktivator dalam pembuatan pupuk organikpadat maupun pupuk cair. Bahan utama MOL terdiri dari beberapa komponenyaitu karbohidrat, glukosa, dan sumber mikroorganisme. Tujuan penelitian iniadalah mengetahui kemampuan MOL sebagai aktivator dalam prosespengomposan limbah lumpur dan serat buah kelapa sawit yang disterilkan dantidak disterilkan. Dari hasil penelitian dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwamikroorganisme pada MOL yang berperan sebagai pendegradasi pada prosespengomposan lumpur dan serat buah kelapa sawit. Hal ini berdasarkan hasilanalisa proses fermentasi tapai singkong menjadi MOL dimana jumlahmikroorganisme pada hari pertama sebesar 403,45mg/l dan pada hari kelimajumlah mikroba meningkat menjadi 456,10 mg/l. Selain itu dapat dilihat jugabahwa bahan baku yang disterilkan untuk parameter kualitas kompos antara lain: N, P, K, C, C/N,Mg, Ca, temperatur, pH, dan kadar air, mempunyai nilai yangmendekati SNI berbanding bahan baku yang tidak steril. Penggunaan MOLsebagai sumber mikroorganisme dalam proses pengomposan dapat dijadikanalternatif sebagai bioaktivator yang ekonomis dan ramah lingkungan.

Abstract

Profenofos an organophosphate insecticide, has been widely used for control insect pests. Bioremediation is one of the treatments to reduce residue of profenofos in soil . This result aims to know the profenofos bioremediation abilities of Streptomyces sp. in soil sample and to know the efficiency of profenofos degrading in variation factors of Streptomyces sp and compare with the quality standards of Department of Environment and Conservation regulation. The fixed variable used in this study is initial concentration of profenofos is 100 mg/kg soil, aerated every 7 days, and added distilated water every 14 days. The changeable variable used different concentration of Streptomyces sp. consists of variations in soil was 0 ml/kg (control), 10 ml/kg, 20 ml/kg . Based on the results of the research after 21 days incubation, Streptomyces sp. abled to remove profenofos in soil and the maximum degradation efficiency was added 20 ml/kg Streptomyces sp. in soil which was 96.21 % . For others efficiency was 95.759 % which added 10 ml/kg and 93.54 % as control.Keywords: Pesticide, Profenofos, degradation, bioremediation, Streptomyces sp.

Abstract

Styrofoam or polystyrene (PS) can make block water channel, greenhouse effect and make a big contribution in global warming, interfering with a various equilibrium environmental and health components. One of styrofoam waste treatment is a biodegradation by utilizing mealworm (Tenebrio molitor larva). This research aims to calculate the value of degradation (%biodegradation) efficiency with additional nutrients and %Survival Rate of larva. In this study variations we make comparation in dark and light conditions, The result highest of %biodegradation Styrofoam is a Styrofoam dark condition with 57% value and lowest value is a Styrofoam in light condition with 51%. While for the highest %SR dark condition is 65% and light condition with 75%.Key Word : Styrofoam, Survival Rate, Biodegradation, Tenebrio molitor Larva.

Abstract

The utilization of fossil energy sources overload resulted in the availability of energy sources depleting and should be offset by the provision of alternative energy renewable, abundant amount, and the cost price is so affordable by the public, one of which is briquette. Palm oil mill sludge is one of the wastes at the palm oil processing. Palm oil smill sludge with the addition of rubber seed shells can be used as raw material for making briquettes through the carbonization process. This study aims to study the effect of particle size variations on the proximate analysis of the briquettes produced. Variations of particle size were 60, 80, and 100 mesh with the composition of palm oil mill sludge and rubber seed shells were 60%:40%. The results showed that the best briquettes were obtained at 100 mesh particle size with 4% moisture content, 4.5% ash content, 9.3% volatile matter and 82.2% fixed carbon.Keywords: briquettes, carbonization, rubber seed shell, palm oil mill sludge
