Abstract

Orang Rimba have local knowledge about utilization of dammar in Bukit Duabelas National Park .The research was aimed to record the type of dammar and explore local knowledge Orang Rimba utilizing dammar. Data were collected through interviews, participant observation and documentation . Data analysed as qualitative descriptive. There were 15 plant species whose resin were used by Orang Rimba i.e Dipterocarpus baudii, Dipterocarpus hasseltii, Hopea mengarawan, Hopea dryobalanoides, Dacryodes rugosa., Santiria laevigata, Shorea bracteolata, Parashorea aptera, Canarium pilosum, Shorea retinoides, Shorea cf. singkawang, Santiria dacryodifolia, Shorea multiflora dan Sarong (Trigona spp). Dammar were used  as a fuel, medicine, adhesive material and traditional rituals. General use of dammar was for traditional Torch lighting (blebayon).

Abstract

Suku Anak Dalam (SAD), a tribal in Bukit Duabelas Nasional Park (TNBD) has knowledge for utilizing rattans. This research attempts to investigate the species of rattans utilized and to analyze the local wisdom of Suku Anak Dalam(SAD) community.The data was collected by doing an interview the informants consisting of temenggung (head of the tribe), jenang (the liaison between the villagers and anak dalam), rattans gatherers, induk (mother) and hand maker. Then, the researcher observed active participation (following the SAD activity in utilizing rattans).The interview was conducted based on the appropriate time with qualitative condition and situation. The result showed 12 (twelve) species of rattan utilized by the SAD community, Calamus ornatus (Blume), Calamus caesius( Blume), Calamus flabellatus (Becc.), Calamus manan(Miq.), Calamus csipionum (Lour.), Calamus javensis(Blume), Calamus axilliaris(Becc.), Calamus sp., Daemonorops geniculata (Griff.) Mart., Daemonorops draco(Willd.) Blume, Daemonorops verticiliaris(Griff.) Mart., and Korthalsiaechinometra(Becc.)The eight species were utilized as ambung, penampilan, and tekalo handicraft. One type for rituals, ropes, clotheslines, dye, durian lempok cakes preservatives (Durio spp.),and the species for the food for pregnant mothers (ngidam), and the three species for medicine. The implication of this research gave a documentation for the government to formulate and to make an authority of TNB forest conservation and to protect the culture of SAD community in the form of rattans inventarization and local wisdom of SAD community in utilizing the species of rattans.How to CiteMairida, D., Muhadiono, M., & Hilwan, I. Abstract

A. Sutowo Latief, Rizal Syarief, Bambang Pramudya, Muhadiono, in this paper explain that the reseach was aimed to increase of brown sugarcane (gula tumbu) quality by sulphitation method in laboratory eksperimetal, supposed the result fulfils the first quality according to SNI 1-6237-2000 that is a minimal condition of safety food. The method based on factorial complete random plan thrice reduplications. Initially nira that filtered given lime tohor and heated 50-60oC up to achieve ph 9. The treatment: (1) make nira ph 7 and ph 8 with add sulphite acid, and (2) ripening temperature, that is 70,80,90, and 100oC. Nira that heated up to coagulate and it was poured into moulding and solidification to be brown sugarcane. The testing is done towards sugar quality, it was result with parameter: (1) water contain, (2) sucrose contain, (3) glucose contain, (4) rendemen, (5) colour, (6) taste, (6) smell, and (8) hardness of brown sugarcane that produced fulfil the first quality of SNI 1-6237-2000. The best treatment process heats nira in 100°C, either nira ph 7 and nira ph 8. Keywords: brown sugarcane, quality, sulfitation method.

Abstract

Thirty sediment samples had been taken from the Tapak Formation of Kedung Randu areas, Banyumas, to reconstruct the diversity of mangrove flora from this area the past. This samples were processed for palynological slides used standard palynology preparation method. The microscopic identification of palynomorphs were done to identify taxa of paleoflora. Fifty-six types of pollen and spores fossils had been identified and 22 types were mangrove pollen-spores fossils. This fossils could be grouped into major mangrove (Zonocostites ramonae/Rhizophora type, Spinizonocolpites echinatus/Nypa fruticans, Florschuetzia levipoli/Soneratia caseolaris and Avicennia type); group of minor mangrove (Retitricolporites sp./Excoecaria sp., Discoidites novaguenensis/Brownlowia type, Camptostemon and Acrostichum aureum), and a group of plant associations (Retitricolporites equatoralis/Calophyllum type, Dicolpopollis sp./Calamus type, Racemonocolpites sp./Oncosperma, Marginipollis concinus/Barringtonia, Pandaniidites sp. /Pandanus, Terminalia catappa, Ilexpollenites sp./Ilex, Stellatopollis sp./Croton type, Acanthaceae type, Cyperaceaepollis/Cyperaceae, Podocarpidites/Podocarpus, Aglaia type, Haloragacidites/ Casuarina and Verrucatosporites usmensis/Stenochlaena palustris. Stenochlaeniidites papuanus and Podocarpus imbricatus were found in the samples. Tapak Formation was included in the last section of the Podocarpus imbricatus/Dacrycarpidites australiensis Zone of Java Palynological Zonation, and this formation was in the age of Late Pliocene towards Pleistocene. Key word: Tapak Formation; major-minor-plant associations of mangrove; palynological zonation

Abstract

This research was aimed to study ethnobotany and the diversity of Pandanaceae that utilized by the people of Orang Rimba tribe who lives in Bukit Duabelas National Park, Jambi. The results of this study showed there were six species of two genera (Benstonea and Pandanus)that were used for habitual and religion activities of those tribes. Only four species were used for crafts, especially mat and wallets (sumpit):Pandanus furcatus Roxb.; Pandanus labyrinthicus Kurz ex Miq.; Pandanus immersus Ridl.; and Benstonea atrocarpa (Griff.) Callm. & Buerki. Two species were used as a ceremony?s complement materials and tribe?s rituals: Pandanus labyrinthicus Kurz ex Miq. (ritual of marriage), and Benstonea atrocarpa (Griff.) Callm. & Buerki to kiding (the procession before the rice planting season begins).Only one species that was used as a material for the house?s or cottage?s roof, Benstonea kurzii (Merr.) Callm. & Buerki. Leaves were the part of the plant which used for the Orang Rimba daily needs.The skill for making handicraft were obtained iterally from generations. The population of pandan assumed to be decreased without effort for the cultivation and conservation.

Abstract

Mantangan (Merremia peltata (L.) Merr.) is a woody liana. Nowadays, it has become invasive in Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. The objectives of this research were to analyze: 1) effect of light intensity on the growth of mantangan in natural and artificial shade, 2) effect of sand addition to the soil media and trimming on the growth rate of mantangan. Forest profile was made at the field in three locations with three light intensity levels: low, moderate, and high. A completely randomized design by three factors: shade, soil media and trimming were used. Parameters measured were stem length, leaf and buds number, fresh and dry weight. Forest profile analysis showed that high light intensity forest was dominated bay mantangan. In contrast, growth of mantangan was inhibited in low light intensity (75% shade), with lower dry weight (1.50 g). Soil media and trimming did not affect significantly on growth of mantangan.

Abstract

Indonesia is a high-abundance tropical forests country. It plays a very important role for world life because of its species richness than others. One of the forest resources in Indonesia is indigenous forests. Indonesia is rich of local wisdom such as that possessed by indigenous peoples. Indigenous peoples have a potential of the biological resources conservation. As a sustainable management tradition, communities around indigenous forest also have the efforts to preserve the forest.  The data collection of community knowledge about plants was conducted by interviews and direct-field observation. Data were analyzed using index of cultural significance. The results showed that there are 48 species of plants utilized by communities in Hiang Indigenous Forest, 27 species are used as firewoods, 15 species as building materials, 7 species as medicinal plants, 6 species as traditional handicraft ingredients and 4 species as secondary foods and traditional ritual materials. Most of widely-used plants by the community are Altingia excels, and Styrax benzoin is used as incense in a traditional ritual.
