Abstract

Semiotics, which is the science of signs, has become an increasingly interesting interdisciplinary area of study. As such, semiotics can also be used as both structural and pragmatic approach for translation studies, especially for studies in which meanings are difficult to comprehend including symbolic texts. This paper aims to uncover the role of semiotics in the translation of symbolic languages, especially religious texts. The study employs descriptive qualitative method to describe and interpret the data in the form of an analysis of symbolic text translation. This is to uncover the various attitudes and perspectives about the roles of semiotic science in the translation of religious texts. The findings of this study indicate that the semiotic perspective is able to reveal the dimensions of referential or conceptual meaning of the symbols through the appearance of a supplementary component, which connects literal and figurative meanings conventionally. This effort is carried out through the use of structural semiotic analysis tools, namely by exploring the relationships between symbolic meanings, both syntagmatically and paradigmatically.

Abstract

This paper aims to revisit the theoretical concepts of Realistic Job Preview (RJP), as a human resource management approach to provide job candidates with information to better match the candidates’ expectations with therealities regarding the job. Further, the paper attempts to present several considerations and strategies in implementing RJP in the socialization, selection, and retention processes of recruitment. The theoretical reviewpresented shows that, when given properly and at the correct timing, RJP could increase job satisfaction, commitment, and performance while reducing turnover. This implies that the information shared through RJP could create a more realistic, deflated expectation about the job and the organization when presented using multiple formats

Abstract

In 2020, herbal plant seeds were distributed to 348 families in Catur Kintamani Village, totaling 2,489 herbal plant seeds. The fertile land in Catur Village causes the yield of these herbal plants to be higher than for daily needs. This causes the excess supply to be not utilized optimally. Seeing these problems, the PKM implementation team assists in manufacturing, packaging, and marketing herbal simplicia. The method used in this training activity is the participatory community method. The results of this activity are the production of several herbal simplicia products in the form of dry powder, for example, ginger powder simplicia, processed foods from herbal ingredients such as ginger cookies, and simplicia in the form of slices, for example, lemon simplicia. The products produced are then marketed around the village area as well as marketing using social media. The result of this activity is an increase in community income to improve the village community's family economy. --- Tahun 2020 telah dibagikan bibit tanaman herbal kepada 348 kepala keluarga di Desa Catur Kintamani dengan jumlah total bibit 2.489 tanaman herbal. Abstract

This study examines the impact of workplace discipline, transformational leadership, and career development on employee performance at a five-star hotel in Bali. The study was conducted at the Royal Beach Seminyak Bali, which is a part of Accor Group’s MGallery Collection of boutique hotels. The data was collected from 73 employees who were selected using a randomized sampling method using a close-ended questionnaire, which was then analyzed quantitatively using regression analysis. The results suggest that workplace discipline, transformational leadership, and career development positively affect employee performance (sig. of 0.038; 0.032; and 0.028 respectively [α < 0.05]). Meanwhile, the study also indicates that workplace discipline, transformational leadership, and career development simultaneously have positive effect on employee performance (F-count = 31.702, greater than F-table = 2.74, α < 0.01). This suggests that improvement in workplace discipline, transformational leadership, and career development, could positively affect employee performance at The Royal Beach Seminyak Bali.

Abstract

This paper explores the emerging herbal tourism in Catur village, Kintamani Bali. It chronicles the development of women empowerment program through the cultivation of herbal medicinal plants in a demonstration plot by Universitas Dhyana Pura and in the family medicinal gardens program (TOGA) of the women farmers’ association (KWT) members, followed by the production, packaging, and marketing of herbal products in the form of healing oil, face oil, hair oil, massage oil, scrubs, and herbal beverages. The article follows the four-year empowerment project, beginning in 2016, which since the initiation of Catur as a tourism village (desa wisata) in 2018 has become one of the unique selling propositions of this rural tourism destination. Since 2018, the project has expanded to cover the village-wide Women for Family Prosperity Assembly (PKK), fostering green entrepreneurship movement among the women within the Catur village community—both related and unrelated to the herbal project. Using the logical framework in analyzing the steps in the women empowerment efforts through herbal plants and products, eventually supporting herbal tourism, this paper discusses the gap between the problems faced by the women in the community and the long-term desired state, then describes the activities taken followed by the outputs produced and the outcomes achieved from the project, and notes some apparent impacts that have occurred in the community since the inception of the project. Keywords: community development, empowerment, green entrepreneurship, herbal products, women

Abstract

The use and subsequent development of herbal products has been on the rise in Indonesia. Catur village, in the mountainous district of Kintamani, the heart of Bali Island, is a region rich in herbal plants. However, the villagers have yet to realize the great potential that they have, and simultaneously they are in search of a unique proposition for their rural tourism development. The team from Universitas Dhyana Pura set out a four-year project for empowering the women of Catur village to be actively involved in their local economic development through education, cultivation, production, and marketing of locally sourced herbal products. This article discusses the second cycle of this project, carried out in 2019-2021. Joint efforts by the project team and the target group have yielded several economically viable herbal products (output), while the women reported that the feel more empowered to be involved in their families’ and village’s efforts towards economic welfare, and that there is a multiplier effect from this project on the education and uses of herbal products strengthening the establishment of Catur as “herbal village.”
