Abstract

This study tried to investigate the correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement to the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wukirsari. There were two problems which discussed in this study. First was there any correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement to the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wukirsari? Second, what was the percentage of Students’ Learning Strategy? The objectives of this study were to find out the percentages of students’ learning strategy and to find out the correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement to the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wukirsai. The method used in this study was correlation research. The population of this study was all of the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wukirsari in the academic year 2015/2016.  The total number of population was 182 students which were distributed into six classes. There were 28 students treated as the sample of the study. The sample was taken through random sampling. In collecting the data of students’ learning strategy, the writer used questionnaire by strategy inventory for language learning and in collecting the data of students’ English achievement, the writer used students’ report score. Then, the technique for analyzing the data, the writer used Spearman Rank Correlation to find out the correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement. Based on the findings, the result of the calculation correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement was 0.542, whereas the coefficient of correlation was 0.318 (robtained > rtable ). So the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, it means that there was a correlation between students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement to the eighth-grade students of SMPN H. Wuirsari in the academic year of 2015/2016. Finally, the aim of this article was to clarify on students’ learning strategy and students’ English achievement.

Abstract

the aimed of this research was to describe how many word students able wrote English vocabulary in short time and to describe the students’ difficulties in mastery English vocabulary. This research designed in qualitative descriptive method, the data collected through written test and unstructured interview by using Focus Group Discussion. The subject of this research was twenty students grade two of Bahasa Indonesia Study Program at STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau. The results showed: in the writing English vocabulary test in three type Noun, verb and Adjective, students able to wrote avarage10 word in each part and the students’ difficulties such as: Students seldom reading English text so their vocabulary mastery very low, Students has low ability to remember new English word caused of never practiced in the daily life and students confuse in using irregular word in arrange the sentence both writing and speaking.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the completion of social studies learning outcomes for fourth grade students of SD Negeri Sukakarya. The research method used is in the form of a quasi-experimental. The population is all fourth grade students of SD Sukakarya and the research sample is 19 students. Data was collected by using saturated sampling technique. The collected data were analyzed using tests. Based on the results of data analysis with a confidence level of = 5% and dk = 18, it shows that zcount = 2.29 and ztable = 1.64 (zcount > ztable). Thus, it can be concluded that the social studies learning outcomes of fourth grade students of SD Negeri Sukakarya after the implementation of the open ended learning model have been significantly completed. The average value of the final test of students is 72.48 and the percentage of students who complete is 17 students (68.42%). it can be concluded that the social studies learning outcomes of fourth grade students of SD Negeri Sukakarya after the application of the open ended learning model were significantly completed.

Abstract

This research aims to know students’ learning style in mastery English at SMA Negri 7 Lubuklinggau, the researcher took an observation several students to know type of learning style that can be used by teacher in teaching English in the classroom. The researcher took 18 students as the subject of the research where is representative from the whole of student at SMA Negri 7 Lubuklinggau. The objectives at this research are to know the student in learning style in mastery English and the students’ learning strategies to improve their English proficiency. In this research, the researcher used qualitative research which focuses on naturalistic approach, because the researcher wants to know students’ condition in naturally when they learn English. The result show that  from eighteen students that chooses, seven students used kinaesthetic in learning English, six students used Auditory and five students used read and write. the result at this research as an inform to the teachers in teaching especially in English, they must understand the characteristic of their students and use mix strategies in teaching in the classroom, so students will understand all of the material well by their learning style.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze gender discrimination reflected in novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. This study reveals kinds of gender discrimination as reflected in the novel and how the gender discrimination affects characters as reflected in the novel. This study employed feminist approach. The writers only focused on analyzing gender discrimination issue limited on woman. The results show that the kinds of gender discrimination found in the novel were natality inequality, mortality inequality, household inequality, special opportunity inequality, and professional inequality. The effect of gender discrimination covered physical problems, psychological problems, impact on women’s family and dependent, and impact on social.

Abstract

 The present study aims to describe the students’ obstacles in learning English and their strategies in learning English at the senior high school. This study employs qualitative descriptive method. The data were collected through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and interviews to get the naturality of the data. The study was conducted at SMA -Al -Ikhlas and SMA Negeri 8 Lubuklinggau, involving twenty students from both schools. The results indicate that many students of both schools have obstacles in learning English on pronunciation, understanding meaning and grammar.  Their learning strategies include social strategies, cognitive strategies, and meta-cognitive strategies.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to develop the English reading materials in textbook used for students at Senior High School in Lubuklinggau, and to describe the efficacy of instructional design of reading materials for Students at Senior High School in Lubuklinggau. The Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 5 Lubuklinggau was the sample of this research. In addition, this research applied an Educational Research and Development (R & D) by using a simplified six steps of Borg and Gall’s model. The six steps were: (1) collecting the research information,(2) planning and drafting the data of research, (3) developing the data of research based 2013 curriculum combined with the result, (4) giving tryout (field testing) to the 11th grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Lubuklinggau, (5) evaluating the English reading materials by the experts, and (6) producing the final product (English reading materials in textbook). The findings of this research showed that the English reading materials in textbook that were developed in this research fulfilled the criteria of R & D model. The instructional design as the specific English reading materials was very important and useful to support the students’ reading activities that put not only building the intensive practice for reading comprehension, but also linking to grammar, enriching the vocabulary, and applying the students’ knowledge. Moreover, through the English reading materials in textbook, the students could use it with the suitable and the valuable materials, and they must be motivated to increase their reading proficiency.

Abstract

The problem of this study was ”What are the icons, indexes, and symbols in Get Out  movie?”. There were primary sources and secondary sources in this study. The primary source used in this study was Get Out movie while the secondary sources were several books, journals, and articles to support this study. The objective of this study was to describe the icons, indexes, and symbols in Get Out Movie by using Charles Peirce's theory. This study used descriptive qualitative research. In collecting the data, the writer used library research, in which the writer went to find desirable references consisted of books, journals, and articles. In analyzing the data, the writer identified and classified the data first, then the writer did some reduction to the data. The writer only chose relevant data in several key scenes in the movie which were contributive to the plot and removed the redundant and unnecessary ones. After conducting the study, the writer found out that there were thirty signs in Get Out movie. The result showed that the thirty signs found in the movie were classified into three icons, twenty indexes, and seven symbols.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not it was significantly effective to teach reading comprehension through self-monitoring approach to reading and thinking (SMART) strategy to the tenth-grade students of SMK Pertanian Negeri 2 Tugumulyo. The method applied in this research was quantitative with the pre-experimental method. The total number of population was 130 students of the tenth-grade students of SMK Pertanian Negeri 2 Tugumulyo. The sample of this research had taken by using cluster random sampling. The number of the sample was 33 students of class X.2. The instrument of the research was in form of multiple-choice tests. The data were analyzed through four techniques: individual score, conversion based on minimum mastery criteria (MMC), normality testing, and paired t-test. Based on the result of data analysis, the writers found that there were: the students’ average score in the pre-test was 58.18 and the post-test was 76.36, normality testing in the pre-test was 2.0724 and the post-test was 4.471, and the result of paired t-test was 6.401, which was higher than 1.697 with 95% (0.05) significance level for one tailed-test. It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In conclusion, it was significantly effective to teach reading comprehension through Self-monitoring approach to reading and thinking (SMART) strategy to tenth-grade students of SMK Pertanian Negeri 2 Tugumulyo.

Abstract

The objectives of the study was to develop the textbook for Elementary school of the sixth grade students. The population were eighteen students at the sixth grade A class. Nowadays character building was a national movement in Indonesia. The educators asked to integrate it in the learning process, but unfortunately, there are still many teachers that still had difficult in integrating character building in classroom. In English class character building can be integrated through inserting culture in the material, therefore the students are not only learning about the material but they also learned about the value of the culture. The purpose of this research was develop English material for sixth grade students based on character building. The method of this study was Research and Development (R&D) by ADDIE model (1990) was applied Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and evaluation the product. The subjects of research were the students at elementary school of sixth grade. The result of research showed that the textbook developed was appropriate to the students’ needs and curriculum. The writer concluded that developing English textbook for Elementary school at sixth grade students of SD IT An-nida Lubuklinggau got positive response from six grade students because it can help easier for students comprehend the material clearly. So in this study, the textbook can help students facilitate learning English in the classroom.
