Abstract

Using a mobile application that is featured with local public transit information can greatly improve user action, as well as assisting travelers to have a better experience while taking public transit services. Crowd environment inside a public transit is one of the most frequent causes that lead difficulties to passengers when they engaging their mobile devices to access their apps or in some conditions. Finding crucial information such as stops points and remaining time to interchanges point when switching to another line becomes more difficult in those conditions especially for foreigners who new in a particular region. This study presents the combination of a mental model and a usability approach to construct a user journey map that led to new insights on user's experiences and challenges when utilizing their mobile local transit application. This valuable information is a part of the elicitation process to propose an alternative interaction method to enhance the usability and travel experience of the public transit app. The experimental results indicate that in contrast to the existing mobile transit app, the proposed interface with the utilization of a wearable device could considerably enhance user action when trying to reach the desired location in terms of total time and performance. It implies that the proposed solution, which works through the mental model and user journey is able to intuitively enhance the public transit app usability.

Abstract

Information system is one of the most important business supports in organizations. Web-based applications become an appropriate solution to overcome the dynamically changing environment among different units in an organization. Model-View-Controller (MVC) is a well-known design pattern in web-based application development due to the separation of an application into several parts, hence it is easy to reuse and maintain. However, such design pattern requires improvements since the information system handles business process choreography and integration between application. Therefore, modifying the interaction of object of class in a design pattern become a challenging problem. In this paper, an application framework based on Model-CollectionService-Controller-Presenter (MCCP) design pattern, which is a modification of an MVC, was proposed. The proposed framework allows multiple different applications to run and provides inter-application data exchange mechanisms to improve the data communication process between applications. Several performance comparisons with another popular web application framework are also presented.

Abstract

Abstract.Utilization of information technology in the field of public transportation has been proven in improving the quality of public transportation services. The availability of information technology that supports public transportation in Malang city is still limited. An effort is required to encourage the availability of information technology that support public transportation in Malang city. This research attempts to propose a draft proposal of REST API designed for supporting information about public transportation services in Malang city. The result of this research showed that the REST API should provide a search facility to find proper service mode of transportation, cost estimation, time estimation, calling or booking a public transportation, a list of all the modes of transportation that exist, as well as detailed information on a mode of transport in which includes the name of public transportation, index of comfortability, index of security, index of safety, index of privacy, index of availability, index of accessibility index, and route.Keywords: Transportation, Public Transportation, API, REST, Service-Oriented Architecture, Web Service.

Abstract

ETL scheduling is a challenging and exciting issue to solve. The ETL scheduling problem has many facets, one of which is the cost of time. If it is not handled correctly, it may take a very long time to execute and inconsistent data in very large data. In this study using Round-robin algorithm method that proved able to produce efficient results and in accordance with conventional methods. After doing the research, the difference between these two methods is about execution time. Through this experiment, the Round-robin scheduling method gives a more efficient execution time of up to 61% depending on the amount of data and the number of partitions used.

Abstract

Education becomes an important thing to advance a nation. Therefore, everyone must follow the education level. One of education level is early childhood education. KB & TK Permata Iman which was established in 2005 is a private educational institution and focus on early childhood education. In learning evaluation, KB & TK Permata Iman still use conventional method. The conventional method takes much time because teachers need to collect daily grade until the end of a semester for final grade calculation and prepare the results in grade book. The semester learning evaluation process can be shortened and simplified using a web-based academic assessment management information system. The system can store, directly perform calculations when teachers add students’ grade and make grade book from saved grade. From the testing result, the time efficiency increased to 94.94% when evaluating semester learning using the system and it can help the teacher to save time and do another task.

Abstract

Paratransit (mikrolet) was very popular in Malang city. However, their popularity is reduced by the availability of wide variety of more modern and online public transportations. One of the obstacles commonly faced by passengers of mikrolet is the limited information about the routes taken by mikrolet. In this paper, we proposed a prototype of service that can generate trip planning by mikrolet. We use depth-first search (DFS) algorithm as the basis to build our solution because it is relatively simple to modify. The service for trip planning available through REST web service and utilize location-based service style. Based on functionality testing result, the proposed system successfully generate all trip plans as expected. From performance perspective, when the number of routes and plans increased, the overall system performance degrades, so in the future the proposed prototype and its algorithm may needs further optimization.

Abstract

A concept map is deemed a useful teaching and learning tool. It offers many potential advantages over just representing the students’ knowledge and understanding during learning, and have been widely used to support learning. Kit-Build concept map is one learning framework that incorporate digital concept map for its learning activities. Learning with Kit-Build concept map has been found to have better learning effects towards students' understanding and knowledge retention. Incorporating Kit-Build concept map into collaborative learning have been reported to have better outcome than the traditional collaborative learning. However, collaborative learning with Kit-Build concept map cannot be accomodated with the current Kit-Build system where learning activity is conducted online. This study presents the design and development of online collaborative learning platform of Kit-Build Concept Map. A prototype of the collaboration system to support collaborative learning with Kit-Build concept map is developed and be evaluated to portray its potential usability for further development and practical use. The result suggested that incorporating Socket.IO as a real-time communication middleware is effective to deliver online collaborative learning features into the Kit-Build system. Preliminary evaluation to the system also suggested that the system has the potential for actual use in supporting distant collaborative learning with Kit-Build concept map.

Abstract

AbstrakUsability merupakan sejauh mana kelayakan suatu sistem berdasarkan efektivitas, efisiensi, dan satisfaction pada konteks tertentu. Pentingnya usability untuk mengukur kualitas kelayakan suatu sistem yang mengarah pada beberapa metode pengujian. Website resmi Universitas Brawijaya dengan domain ub.ac.id adalah media informasi online yang berisikan informasi tentang UB. Berdasarkan Pelayanan  Informasi dan Komplain (PIDK) UB terdapat keluhan tentang dokumentasi resmi UB yang belum diperbarui, selain itu menurut Pusat Jaminan Mutu belum terdapat adanya standar khusus, dan  TIK UB belum pernah melakukan evaluasi website.  Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan evaluasi usability untuk mengetahui permasalahan yang ada pada sistem dan supaya mencapai tujuan tertentu secara efektif, efisien, dan mencapai kepuasan user. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, maka diangkatlah penelitian dengan judul Analisis Usability pada Website Universitas Brawijaya dengan Heuristic Evaluation (HE). HE adalah metode untuk mencari masalah usability dengan Nielsen’s heuristic dengan melibatkan para ahli.Penelitian dimulai dengan melakukan pengumpulan data, pengujian website, dan analisis hasil heuristik dan uji preferensi user. Dengan berpedoman pada sekumpulan heuristik, para ahli mencari dan menilai usability pada website UB. Kemudian uji preferensi user dengan PSSUQ juga dilakukan untuk mengetahui respon user umum terhadap website UB, dan didapatkan hasil berupa perbandingan hasil analisis antara HE dengan uji preferensi user.Kata kunci: Usability, Heuristic Evaluation, Uji Preferensi UserAbstractUsability is part of user experience to know how properness a system based on effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction in specific context. The importance of usability is to measure quality of a system which tends to evaluation methods. Official website of University of Brawijaya (ub.ac.id) is online media containing information regarding to UB. Based on the problems such as complaint about official documentation that has not been updated, no specific standard for the website, UB website has never been evaluated. Thus, it is a necessary to do usability evaluation to know defects in the system and to achieve better in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, and user satisfaction. Based on the problems mentioned, this research is named Analysis of Usability on Official Website University of Brawijaya using Heuristics Evaluation. HE is a method to look for usability defects by involving expert perspectives.Research starts from collecting data, evaluating data, and analyzing result of evaluations. Heuristics evaluation is a method to look for usability defects/problems using Nielsen’s heuristic by involving experts as evaluators in this research. Then, User Preference Evaluation with PSSUQ is needed to know responses of general users about UB website. From the result, it will be obtained and mapped result from Heuristic Evaluation and user preference testing concerning usability.Keywords: Usability, Heuristic Evaluation, User Preferences Testing

Abstract

The development of digital electronic devices that can communicate with each other causing the need for data security or data protection. However, in the many digital electronic devices are not equipped with security or protection of the data. In this study has the main objective to design an embedded system that can be added to the digital electronic devices to provide security or protection of the data. As the initial phase of the study, in this paper have measured performance data security in embedded systems with Arduino using a cryptographic algorithm SHA-1 hash function. Performance of SHA-1 hash calculation using linear regression approach of measurement results show for 1 byte of data takes time 2,505 ms. Each additional 1 byte of data calculation time hash function SHA-1 increased 0.0715 ms. Keywords: arduino, cryptography, data security, embedded system, hash function, SHA-1

Abstract

Aplikasi tracking kuliner halal telah dikembangkan untuk melacak kuliner tersertifikasi halal di daerah kunjungan wisata. Aplikasi ini mengintegrasikan aplikasi Android dengan layanan Google maps dan Global Positioning System (GPS)  untuk membantu wisatawan mengetahui lokasi kuliner tersertifikasi halal dengan peta navigasi dan informasi menu makanan yang disajikan. Sistem tracking ini masih dikembangakan di daerah terbatas. Sebelum penggunaan aplikasi ini diperluas perlu dievaluasi penerimaannya oleh masyarakat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode TAM (Technology Acceptance Model), dimana faktor yang diteliti adalah kemanfaatan dan kemudahan untuk menggunakan aplikasi. Data diolah dengan metode Partial Least Square (PLS). Hasil pengujian aplikasi tracking kuliner halal menunjukkan persepsi kemudahan berpengaruh nyata terhadap kemanfaatan aplikasi. Persepsi manfaat dan persepsi kemudahan masing-masing berpengaruh nyata terhadap minat menggunakan aplikasi. Pengguna yakin bahwa aplikasi yang mudah digunakan dan memiliki manfaat akan menarik minat masyarakat untuk menggunakan. Minat menggunakan aplikasi berpengaruh nyata terhadap penggunaan nyata aplikasi ini. Nilai predictive relevance sebesar 0,885 berarti model dinilai baik untuk menggambarkan keadaan sebenarnya di lapang.
