Abstract

Development of poultry has been done in terms of breeding, feeding and management. However, the implementation still faces many challenges such as the problem of production decrease. One cause of the decline in production is a health disorder caused by pathogenic bacteria (Salmonella sp and Escherichia coli). One way to overcome the problem is the use of Piper bettle linn Juice as a feed additive. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of Piper bettle linn Juice as a feed additive to the performance of laying hens. The method used is the biological test of laying hens age 69 weeks of Isa Brown Strain of 250 laying hens, using Completely Randomized Design (RAL) with 5 treatments and 5 replications. The results of the research showed that Piper bettle linn Juice gave no significant effect (P> 0,05) to feed consumption and mortality. Influence significantly (P<0,01) to Hen Day Production (HDP), egg weight and Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR).

Abstract

The method used in writing this article is a review of several journals related to methane mitigation technology in ruminants. The purpose of writing this article is to know the technologies that can be applied to the field of animal husbandry to reduce the effects of methane produced by ruminants that can cause global warming. Methane is produced mostly from ruminants in feed fermentation process that occurs in the rumen. 80-95% is produced from fermented feed and 5-20% is produced in the colon. Methane emission mitigation measures in ruminant livestock are conducted in several ways including improving feed quality by increasing concentrate composition, adding feed additive to feed and utilization of acetogenic bacteria.

Abstract

The side effect of fatty acid oxidation during lippoprotein synthesis is the release of oxygen in the tissue called reactive oxygen species (ROS). Metabolic stress in Joper brooders due to an imbalance between ROS and antioxidants causes a decrease in hatching egg production and quality. Therefore, research is needed to improve the reproductive performance of Joper broodstock by combining vitamin E-selenium supplementation and metabolic energy. This study used 200 hatched eggs resulting from a cross between 60 weeks old Sentul males and 35 weeks old ISA BROWN laying hens that had been treated. This study used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) (2 x 4). The first factor is the energy level (2700 and 2800 kcal/kg) and the second factor is the dose of vitamin E-selenium supplementation (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 ppm). Selenium dosage is 1ppm/mg vitamin E. The interaction between vitamin E-selenium supplementation and energy had a very significant effect (P<0.01) in increasing DOC weight. The single factor energy level and vitamin E-selenium supplementation significantly (p<0.05) in reducing embryo mortality and increasing hatchability, while fertility and eggshell quality were not affected by the two treatment factors. The conclusion of this study is the interaction between vitamin E-selenium supplementation and energy levels can increase the weight of Joper's DOC, while the single factor of vitamin E-selenium supplementation and energy levels can reduce embryo mortality and increase hatchability. The best interaction with 100 ppm vitamin E-selenium supplementation and energy 2800 kcal/kg.

Abstract

Antibacterial activity of Piper bettle linn juice on pathogenic bacteria and its effect on egg quality during storage were studied. The method used in this study was experiment arranged in  Completely Randomized Design. The Piper bettle linn juice was tested for their antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli, Salmonella sp and lactic acid bacteria in in vitro experiment. All of tested bacteria were challenged by different levels of Piper bettle linn juice dilution namely 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. Increased Piper bettle linn juice level very significant affected (P<0,01). Growth inhibition of all tested bacteria was shown in diameter of inhibition zone (mm). The effects of Piper bettle linn juice were also tested on storage time legth of egg.  Two hundred fifty 69-week-old Isa Brown layers were received different levels of 0%; 2,5%; 5%; 7,5%; 10% and 12,5% of Piper bettle linn juice added to the basal feed. The treatment has no effect on Salmonella total plate count of eggs but it very significant affected (P<0,01) egg quality especially on Escherichia coli total plate count and length of storage time. Key word : antibacterial activity, Piper bettle linn juice, pathogen bacteria, egg quality, storage time
