Abstract

Patriarchy system occurs in the era of Victoria and many women experience the effects of this system. The aims of the study is to describe the patriarchy system presented in the novel The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte. This research was conducted with descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken from Anne Bronte’s novel, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall published by Anne Bronte in 1848. Data were collected from intensive reading of the novel and library research for resources related to patriarchy system. The result of study indicated that the patriarchy system which found in the novel ‘The Tenant of Wildfell Hall’ (1848) touch some basic institution namely economic institution, education, religion, family, state institution and cultural values. This novel told us about the condition of society in the Victorian era especially related to the patriarchy system occurred in that era.

Abstract

Patriarchy system occurs in the era of Victoria and many woman experience the effects of this system. The aims of the study is to find out the effect of patriarchy system endured by many woman character in the novel The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data used by the researcher in this research were taken from Anne Bronte’s novel entitled The Tenant of Wildfell Hall which was published by Anne Bronte in 1848. Data were collected by reading intensively the novel and conducting library research to find some useful resources which relate to analyzed topic namely relate to the patriarchy system. The result of study showed that the patriarchy system found in the novel The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (1848) touches some basic institution in the society namely economic institution, education, religion, family, state institution and cultural values. Helen Graham, main female character in the novel experienced psychological effect because she has a sorrowful life since her marriage with Arthur Huntingdon and also in the novel, the effect of patriarchy system is also experienced by Milicent Hargrave, Ralphs Hattersley’s wife. Moreover, the effect of patriarchy system makes Helen take some actions and struggle against it as the reaction of the effect of the system to end her sad life, by running away from his husband’s house which it is taboo to be done by a woman in Victorian era. On the contrary, Milicent Hargrave decides to be an obedient wife and endures all the sufferings but at the end of the novel, her husband, Ralph Hattersley changes his attitude and becomes a loving husband and father.

Abstract

Pergaulan masyarakat semakin menglobal diseluruh dunia terlebih dalam peningkatan kunjungan wisatawan antar negara. Industriari wisata sebagai salah satu penghasil devisa Negara non migas dibidang jasa saat ini semakin digalakkan oleh pemerintah melalui program promosi di dalam dan luar negeri. Selain itu industri-industri dan jasa pariwisata tidak terlepas dari tamu mancanegara yang berkunjung ke suatu negara dalam kegiatan bisnis, tamu Negara, penelitian, perjalanan individu dan perjalanan secara berkelompok. Oleh karena itu kami merasa perlu untuk melakukan kegiatan pengabdian yang berjudul English for Society kepada masyarakat agar bisa membantu para pelaku wisata yang mana dalam kegiatan ini kami melakukan kegiatan pengabdian di Kawasan Wisata Rammang-Rammang, Desa Salenrang Kecamatan Bontoa, Kabupaten Maros, Sulawesi Selatan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan selama 4 bulan yang mana didalamnya temasuk tahap persiapan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi program. Proses pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan dalam bentuk pengajaran yang dilakukan dengan metode ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawab dan demonstrasi. Adapun manfaat yang kami dapatkan, masyarakat memiliki kemampuan dasar dalam bercakap dengan menggunakan kata-kata sederhana dan bisa diaplikasikan jika ada turis yang berkunjung. Dengan adanya komunikasi yang baik dengan pengunjung terutama turis asing maka secara tidak langsung bisa menambah pendapatan pelaku usaha di kawasan tersebut.

Abstract

Individuals frequently speak English differently depending on their native language or the society they live in. A primary goal of our research is to learn more about the unique linguistic characteristics of the Indonesian people. This study aims to discover the language variation of English used by Indonesian tourist guides. Researchers used library and field research to perform the analysis. The researcher gathered data by recording, transcribing, and categorizing it in three separate processes. Furthermore, the researchers utilized a descriptive qualitative method to examine the usual linguistic features of English used by the tour guide. According to the findings of this study, the code choice of the three tour guides is relatively comparable. They used some particular lexical, namely actually, so, this is I and ‘and then’ In addition, they perform code-switching and code-mixing.
