Penelitian yang berjudul “Analisis Motivasi Belajar Bahasa Inggris Mahasiswa Fakultas Bahasa dan Budaya Untag Semarang” bertujuan menganalisis motivasi belajar Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa di FBB Untag Semarang. Faktor-faktor yang dianalisis adalah orientasi, sikap dan lingkungan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa orientasi mahasiswa untuk belajar bahasa Inggris sangatlah positif dan secara umum mahasiswa yang telah menentukan pilihan mereka mengambil jurusan bahasa Inggris cukup memiliki kemauan untuk belajar dan tidak terlalu menutup diri dari komunikasi serta lingkungan belajar yang sangat mendukung. Ketiga faktor tersebut menunjukkan bahwa motivasi belajar bahasa Inggris mahasiswa FBB Untag Semarang sangatlah tinggi.

The Effectiveness of Online Learning in Speaking Course Novita Al Ihyak Dieni; Widiarsih Mahanani

Online learning must be done by educators in distance learning during the handling Covid-19. Mastery of English skills that require direct practice must also be through online learning, for example, mastery of speaking skill by undergraduate students of English Study Program in Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 (Untag) Semarang. From pre-observation data, there were many students who feel insecure, nervous, and embarrassed when practicing speaking. This is what causes students to be less maximal in mastering speaking skill. The purpose of this study was to identify the effectiveness of online learning, focusing on using Google Classroom and Microsoft (MS) Teams in Speaking Course at the first semester students of English Study Program in Untag Semarang. So that researchers used experimental method. In data collection, researchers used a speaking test which was then analyzed using t-test formula. The data analyzed were the results of pre-tests and post-tests from two groups, namely experimental group and control group. From the results of the statistical analysis of t-test on the pre-test value, t count (1.04) < t table (1.7), it means that Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected. From the results of the statistical analysis of t-test on post-test values, t count (1.5) < t table (1.76), it means that Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected. From the results of statistical analysis of hypothesis tests, it can be concluded that there is no difference grades in Speaking Course between students taught using Google Classroom and students taught using Ms. Teams.

This research deals with analysis of satire and utopia condition in Zootopia by Rich Moore and Byron Howard. This research aims to find out the type of satire and to know the kind of utopia condition reflected in Zootopia. The writer uses types of satire theory by Abrams & Harpham (2014) and utopia theory by More in Dutton (2014). The qualitative descriptive method is applied as the research method in analyzing the data. The data focus in Zootopia film that consists of satire and utopia condition.Based on the analysis, the writer finds the three types of satire, i.e. Horation satire, Juvenalian satire, and Menippean satire found within the film. From the data are obtained, Zootopia is categorized as Juvenalian satire because it is the dominant data because almost all of characters use harsh words and straight to the point in delivering the message. The messages that are conveyed with harsh language make the audience feels angry because it can touch the conscience. Thus, it makes realize how important it is to respect differences and tolerance the others.There were data of utopia conditions depicted by the situation in Zootopia. Zootopia is portrayed as a place where someone lives with each other in peace, tolerance for existing differences, and the realization of dreams, where everyone has same equality and right to be whatever they want. PRAGMATIC STUDY IN THE FUNCTION OF DEIXIS IN KENNY ROGERS' SONG LYRICS agustina maria rima widjajanti; Widiarsih Mahanani

This paper aims to present the types of deixis and finding the effect deixis on the meaning of the song lyrics. The writer takes the data from five song lyrics of the Love of God album by Kenny Rogers. The type of research is descriptive qualitative method. In clarifying the type of deixis, the writer uses pragmatics analysis especially deixis theory. In finding out the effect deixis on meaning the writer applies deixis theory by Levinson. Then, the technique analyzing data, firstly in the analysis the data by representing the lyrics of the songs and all types of deixis. Secondly, analyzing the whole data based on the theory of deixis to get the answer of research question. Finally, the writer concludes the whole data analyzed by interpreting the result. The research finding of the study shows that there are five types of deixis, they are person, time, place, social and discourse deixis. The dominant deixis occurs in four songs lyrics are the first person and social deixis. In one song lyric, the first person and place deixis become dominant ones. The first person deixis is used to explain the speaker’ experience, the social deixis is taken to know the relation inside the song and the place deixis is applied to make the interpretation about place. The effect deixis on meaning as a whole in five song lyrics is that the hearers know the intention of the song lyrics. In four songs, these lyrics tell the speaker’ journey of faith to be close to God and in one song, the lyric tells the speaker’ experience in finding the right place on the religious community. It is reflected in the structure of language themselves, is through the phenomenon of deixis.

Penulisan opini pada kolom opini surat kabar ― The Jakarta Post‖ terhadap kampanye pilpres 2014 sangat menarik di kalangan para pembaca.. Agar penyampaian pendapat lebih santun dan halus penulis opini menggunakan hedges. Hedges sangat penting untuk tulisan opini, karena hedges merupakan ungkapan tentatif dan kemungkinan dalam kalimat sehingga lebih halus, tanpa harus kehilangan kekuatan esensi gagasan yang akan disampaikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk hedges, menganalisa bagaimana dan mengapa hedges digunakan untuk menyampaikan pikiran atau pendapat pembaca tentang berita kampanye pemilihan presiden tahun 2014.Penelitian ini deskriptif kualitatif. Data diambil dari kolom opini surat kabar ―The Jakarta Post edisi bulan April s/d Juli 2014. Data yang mengandung hedges dianalisis dengan memberi kode, diidentifikasi, dikelompokkan, dianalisis, dijelaskan dan disimpulkan. Modal auxiliary verb paling banyak digunakan oleh penulis (40.67%) Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa penulis bisa menghindari pernyataan yang absolut. Fungsi hedges yang paling banyak digunakan adalah Accuracy oriented hedges (78.72%). hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa penulis dapat menyatakan klaim yang tidak pasti secara tepat dengan hati-hati dan mengindikasikan bahwa kepercayaan penulis terhadap kebenaran masalah.Kata kunci: Opini, hedges, pilpres.
