Reading is one of the types of questions asked in National Examination. Senior High School/ MA/ SMK students face difficulties in answering reading questions because they require to analize and compare the passage. Based on the results of a study by the Research Center of the Ministry of Education and Culture (2019), only under 50% of students were able to answer the English National Examination questions. Based on these facts, it is necessary to hold a socialization about understanding English test questions and the types of questions asked in the National Examination. In this community service activity, students of SMKN 1 Samatiga who will face the National Examination are the target of the activity. This activity was carried out by lecturing, discussion and simulation test questions. Abstract

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), especially in Aceh, it was recorded that 4 thousand children were not able to effectively absorb material from teaching staff during the pandemic period (BPS Aceh, 2020). Therefore, the teaching staff needs to pay attention to the development of creative innovative distance learning models so as to increase the interest of students to keep interacting throughout the lesson hours. One method of distance learning that is believed to be able to increase student interest in learning is a web design designed by the teacher to be as attractive as possible so that students can easily access and study learning materials. The purpose of this study was to see the effectiveness of the Development of Distance Learning Models during the Pandemic with a Life Skills-Based Web Design Approach to i-students in West Aceh District. The subjects of this research are university students in West Aceh, namely Teuku Umar University students, STAIN Dirundeng and STIKIP Bina Bangsa Meulaboh. Participants were selected by purposive sampling so that there were 5 students from each campus. The results showed that most partisipants from three Universities in Aceh Barat responded positively to the use of Web Design as Distance Learning Method. Besides, the result from interview with them, there were four obstacles in distance learning, which are (1) the insufficient knowledge of technologi, (2) Internet signal problem, (3) lack of financial to get the internet quota, anda lastly, (4) unsatisfied material understanding from lecturer because of virtual learning. Keywords: Disctance Learning; Web Design Method

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out the psychological effects that have been drawn by the implementation of online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic on university students. The approach implemented in carrying out this study was a descriptive qualitative approach. There were 140 students involved as respondents. The instrument used was a questionnaire set that was generated from Wiles (2020). Before proceeding with data collection process, the validity of the instrument was checked, and the items were valid. Then, the data were analyzed using Interactive Analysis as suggested by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014). The result shows that from the seven mental effects raised from increased screen time, the students admit that they most likely feel fatigued (100%), they experience physical pain such as headache, shoulder sore, eyesore, and others (100%), they have bad time management (98.6%), they feel isolation being drawn from their classmates (68.6%), and they experienced uncertainty about the lecturer’s explanation during the online classes. Hence, it is suggested that there is a special unit to care about the students’ mental health during online learning in this pandemic.

Teachers manage their classes in various ways by utilizing digital platforms. This study aims at finding out students’ perspective on using website in the teaching and learning process. This study was conducted by using qualitative approach design, with the descriptive case study method. There were 17 university students at Universitas Teuku Umar who were involved as the respondents in this study. In data collection, an interview set consisting of 6 questions was distributed to students. Later, the data were analyzed using interactive analysis through the three steps, which are data identification, data display, and data verification. The result shows that students have positive feedbacks toward the use of websites during online learning rather than other digital platforms. The reasons are the constant availability, length adequacy, and completeness. The implication of this study is that it is more preferrable for students to learn by using websites—or better known as e-learning system—rather than other platforms. The research method used was survey design hereby the data from the questionnaire and students' TOEFL score were collected. Under the policy, the students have to pass the standard passing score of TOEFL to graduate. 100 non-English major students from Universitas Teuku Umar participated in this study. The results of the study revealed that the participants gave more positive responses than negative ones. The extend of approval for this policy seemed more related to their abilities, awareness of the importance of learning English, and motivation to learn English. The result from TOEFL scores taken from 2018-2019 found that as many as 58% of students failed to obtain minimum criteria (˃ 400) while only 42% of them reached 400 or above. It indicates that Universitas Teuku Umar students are not ready yet to face this policy.  On the other hand, based on the questionnaire result, most students agreed with the implementation of TOEFL as an exit requirement, however, a minimum passing score should be evaluated and a set of students' needs under the policy should be facilitated.

Abstract

This experimental study aims to investigate the application of Indirect Corrective Feedback in reducing errors on students’ writing recount text. The subjects of the study were 60 tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Meulaboh chosen by random sampling. True experimental research was employed involving experimental group which was given Indirect Corrective Feedback and control group which was not given feedback. The instrument used was writing tests and the data were analysed by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS). It was also proven from errors performed in the pre-test as much as 388 and in the post-test as much as 250 from nine error categories. The results revealed that there was the reduction of error in the post-test. The finding confirmed that there is a significant difference between the results of post-test from both groups.
