Abstract

This research had been conducted to obtain a feed formula that is capable of supporting optimal production performance  both in broilers and laying hens fed on feed containing fermented jatropha seed meal and addition saccarides. Fifty four broiler and fifty four layer were used.  Nested classification was the experimental design with bird kinds as group, levels of fermented Jatropha curcas meal (JCM-F) (9%, 12%, 15%) as  sub group and  levels of fructooligosaccharida/FOS (0.5%; 1%; 1.5%) as a sub sub group.  There were 3  replications in each treatment. Jatropha curcas meal was fermented with lactid acid bacteria (L. acidophilus and Bifidobacter spp) for 12 x 24 hour in 37oC.  The objective of the research was to evaluate growth, feed consumption, nutrient digestibility (crude protein and gross energy), blood metabolites  (glucose, cholesterol and trgliseride).  The results showed that the type of chicken had significant effect on growth and protein retention. The level of Jatropha curcas meal had significant effect on blood  serum triglyseride concentration.  On the other hand, the level of FOS had no significant effect on all variables. It could be concluded that Jatropha curcas meal  is better as broiler feed than layer feed with 0.5% FOS. However, to be used as feed of laying hens, it requires further optimalization of the fermentation process. Animal Production 15(2):98-105, May 2013

Abstract

The experiment was conducted to determine the nutrient digestibility and egg yolk pigment intensity of local ducks which fed shrimps head meal, leucaena leaf meal and L-Carnitine supplement.  The experimental method used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments i.e : R0 (feed with  leucaena leaf meal), R1 (feed with 25 ppm L-Carnitine supplement), R2 (feed with 2% shrimps head meal) and R3 (feed with 4% shrimps head meal). A total of  0,20% FeSO4/kg feed were supplemented to all treatments.  The results showed that L-Carnitine supplements and fed shrimps head meal  (2% and 4%) have no significant effects (P>0,05) on crude fat and crude protein  digestibility  but have significant (P<0.05) effects on yolk pigment intensity.  L-Carnitine supplements resulted in 86,69% crude fat and 90,78% crude protein digestibility).  Ducks fed with 4% shrimps head meal (R3) produced eggs with highest yolk pigment intensity (10,55). Abstract

The development of ruminants must always be followed by forage sources as its feed. The usage of agro industrial by-product like cassava leaves is one of steps that can be conducted.  The purpose of this research was to study the effect of leaves-of-bitter-cassava fermentation using a mixture of Aspergillus niger-cattle bolus on the concentrations of HCN, crude protein, digestibilities of dry matter and organic matters.  Experimental method was used in this study, using completely randomized design with six treatments namely fresh and wilted leaves of bitter cassava, added with Aspergillus niger and 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8% of cattle bolus, each of which was repeated four times. The results showed that the mixture of Aspergillus niger-cattle bolus in cassava leaves had a highly significant effect on HCN, crude protein, dry matter and organic matter digestibilities. The conclusion of this research is that fermentation of leaves of bitter cassava with 6% of Aspergillus niger and cattle bolus is able to degrade cyanogenic glycoside and increase digestibility. Abstract

The waste of the broiler processing (feather) is a potential source for animal feed. However the presence of keratins cause limited of feather use. Before using, therefore, feather must be treated to hydrolyze cysteine disulfide bound dominating keratins protein. Enzymatic (biological) treatment using microbes will produce specific feather hydrolyzed and does not have negative impact on environment. The research objected to get the microbes which degradated selected keratins, improve protein quality of feather meal and find out the best ration formulation true in vitro the basic information to formulate in vivo ration. The research has been done in Laboratory of Animal Feedstuff Faculty of Animal Science UNSOED for eight months. Fermentation trial was done on liquid media with bath system. In vitro trial used of Tilley and Terry methods with parameter observe was dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, protein degradation, total VFA and solubility in pepsin. Based on all parameter, on fermentation trial with Bacillus licheniformis decides broiler chicken feather had good prospect to be developed on feed protein source. In vitro trial recommended ration with formulation of fermented feather meal concentrate (15 percent), soybeans meal (5 percent), rice bran (20 percent), molasses (4 percent), mineral mix (1 percent), with forage: concentrate ratio 40 : 60 could be used as in vivo ration. Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the effect of ethylmethane sulfonate (EMS) on the growth, yield and quality of Elephant grass.  The experimental method with completely randomized design (CRD) was applied.  Fifeteens plot area 2 x 3 m2 were used in this experiment.  There were three treatments and five replications. The treatments consisted of R0 = Elephant grass control, R1 = Elephant grass with 0.1% EMS treatment, and R2 = Elephant grass with 0.2% EMS treatment.  The variables were the development (height of plant, the number of leaf, the leaf area and ratio of stem to leaf), yield (forage/plant, forage/plot and dry matter yield and quality (dry matter, crude protein and crude fiber content) of Elephant grass. These results of variance analysis showed that the treatments significantly affected  on  the height of plant, the forage yield/plant and the crude protein content but not significantly affected on the number of leaf, the leaf area, ratio of stem to leaf, forage yield/plot, dry matter yield, dry matter and crude fiber content.Key words : ethylmethane sulfonate, Pennisetum purpureum, growth, yield, quality Animal Production 14(2):87-91

Abstract

Abstract. The experiment was conducted in an attempt to study the effect of supplementation of Sapindus rarak, garlic  powder and its combinations in beef cattle feed enriched with organic minerals of Cr and Zn on feed consumption, feed digestibility, feed efficiency, daily gain of beef cattle. The study used 16 males Brahman cross cows, which were fed with feeds supplemented with 250 ppm Sapindus rarak powder,  250 ppm  Garlic powder, and a combination of 250 ppm garlic-Sapindus rarak  enriched with Cr and Zn mineral. The results showed that supplementation of Sapindus rarak, garlic and enriched organic minerals increased  the consumption of dry matter, organic matter,  digestibility of dry and organic matter, daily gain, feed efficiency, and reduced the population of rumen protozoa and bacteria. Conclusively, supplementation with 250 ppm garlic powder and  Cr-Zn organic minerals was the best for beef cattle feed to improve daily gain and feed efficiency. Key words : Sapindus rarak, garlic, Cr-Zn, beef cattle, feed efficiency Abstrak. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know the effect of utilization of various kinds of binders in the making of complete diet that was made of several species of forages that was viewed from its physical properties (hardness and durability).  There were two formulations of complete feed and four kinds of binders a pelleting machine was used in this study.  Factorially, based on Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used with feed formulation (A) with two levels namely elephant grass and the leaves of leucaena (a1) and rice straw and peanut straw (a2) as the sources of forage as the first factor, and the kinds of binders (B) with 3 % levels of each binders.  Four levels of binders namely b0 (without binder), b1 (lignosulphonate), b2 (bentonite) and b3 (CMC) were as the second factor.  There were 3 replications in each treatment combination.  Based on the results of this study, it was conclude that the hardness of pellets of complete feed was affected by feed formulations based on different kinds of forage and pellets binders, but not for durability of the pellets.  The highest value of hardness was achieved by a1b1 formulation.
