Abstract

Abstract

The existence of socio-economic benefits generated from waste savings makes the role of waste banks not only limited to waste management and recycling. But the waste bank is also able to increase participation, skills and changes in the attitude of the poor in waste management, especially women who are always involved in the household scale waste management process. On the basis of this, it is important to see the influence of the waste bank on the empowerment of poor women in Sicanang Belawan, Medan. This study uses several theoretical descriptions and related concepts; Garbage Bank and Community Empowerment Program. This research design uses associative research methods with a quantitative approach. This approach is deliberately chosen because to be able to find out the influence and also the relationship between the waste bank program variables and the empowerment of poor women. In this study, the sampling technique uses Harry King's Nomogram, where the total customers of 10 waste banks are 200 customers. Of the 200 customers taken samples with a 5% error rate. So that the number of samples to be examined is 30 customers. Then, 30 of these customers are evenly distributed to each bank of waste banks. So there are 3 customers to represent each waste bank. The results showed, first; The Waste Bank program partially has a significant influence on the empowerment of poor women. This can be seen from the value of Sig = 0.000 which is smaller than α 0.05. In addition, the R Square value is 0. 472. which means that 47.2% of the variation in the variables of empowerment of women can be influenced by the variables of the waste bank program. Second; there is a positive and strong relationship between the Waste Bank Program and Poor Women's Empowerment of r = 0.687.

The research method uses a qualitative research design with a case study approach. Where the subject of this research will be taken with a purposive sampling approach. The primary data collection techniques used in-depth interviews and documentation. The collected data is then analyzed using a qualitative approach with an interactive model as proposed by Miles and Huberman, namely; Data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification.The results of the research show firstly that the three universities representing universities in the city of Medan in general have not yet become gender-responsive universities. This can be seen from the absence of policies, programs, activities and budgets that accommodate the needs of all lines, both men, women, children, disabilities and others. Second, the lack of gender sensitivity and commitment from policy makers to make it a Gender Responsive University. ThirdPSGA does not yet have a role in providing understanding to structural officials and the academic community about the formation and development of Gender Responsive Higher Education. However, one thing that attracts Islamic universities is to implement gender-responsive universities.

Abstract

Covid-19 began to appear at the end of 2019 and began to spread in January 2020 precisely in Wuhan City, China. The presence of this virus has successfully paralyzed all world activities from various sectors, ranging from education, business, politics, tourism and so forth. This condition does not only occur in Indonesia but also affects all countries in the world. Of the various problems that arise in the middle of the community, it is felt necessary to provide a form of community empowerment practice. The main objective is not only to overcome problems related to economic income, but also to make people have the ability to meet their physical, economic and social needs. The practice of community empowerment is not only understood as a change activity carried out from within individuals, communities or organizations but also requires support and encouragement from outside parties, especially support from institutions that have a role in empowerment practices. One of the many institutions that have a role in the implementation of community empowerment practices is the University or in other terms referred to as Higher Education. This research method uses a literature study approach which is a series of activities related to data collection techniques through literature, reading, recording and managing research material. The data taken in this literature study comes from the provision of online media, reference books and research journals that are considered relevant to be able to answer research questions. The results of this writing indicate that Higher Education has a role in the practice of community empowerment, both directly and indirectly through the implementation of Higher Education Tridharma. It's just that, in its implementation, the role of universities in the practice of community empowerment, especially during the Pandemic Covid-19 period is not as simple as imagined. Although there are opportunities in implementing empowerment practices, of course there are also forms of challenges that will be faced by universities in implementing community empowerment practices. Therefore, at least a strategic policy step from the central government is needed that can strengthen the role of Higher Education, as well as to answer the Challenges and Opportunities for Community Empowerment Practices during the Pandemic Covid-19 Through the Role of Higher Education.

Abstract

At present, the global development goals stated in the Sustainable Development Gols (SDGs), the empowerment agenda is still the main focus, especially with regard to empowering women's groups. Although it does not explicitly emphasize women's empowerment in it, in many cases community empowerment practices through ADD always place poor and under-prosperous women as the main participants. In Pematang Johar Village, Deli Serdang Regency, the practice of empowering women's groups is carried out by developing entrepreneurship based on the local potential of the village, namely through batik crafts. This program begins with the formation of a women's batik group with the aim that the batik group formed can produce batik works with local characteristics which are then given the name "Batik Sawah". The research design used a qualitative research design with a case study approach to a group of women in the Batik Liza Mangrove Studio, Pematang Johar Village, Deli Serdang Regency. The data in this study were collected using in-depth interviews with each research informant. The research informants were selected using a purposive sampling approach. Based on the results of the discussion above, it can be concluded that the batik training given to the women's batik groups makes them self-empowered in the form of authority, knowledge and abilities. This condition makes them able to fulfill their daily needs physically, economically and socially. The impact of the practice of empowering women at the Liza Manggrove Batik Studio has only succeeded in improving family welfare subjectively. This is because the income generated from batik activities can only be used to meet the primary needs of the family and has not been able to meet other needs.
