Abstract

Abstract : The type of this research is Classroom Action Research with two cycles. This research conducted of class VII5 SMPN 4 Pekanbaru on secons semester of academic year 2017/2018 wich consists of 35students. This study aims to improve the learning process and improve the student’smathematical problem solving skill (MPSS) by applying Problem Solving Strategy (PSS). The instruments used in this research were learning instrumentsused include syllabus, lesson plan, student work sheets and the instruments of collecting data were observation sheets and MPPS test. After analysis of implementing the Problem Solving Strategy on students and teacher activity, during the learning process student’s participation in learnig more active. The MPSS test data of analyzed students’activity shows an improvement. The mean of the student’s learning achievmentfor scores early 49.72 increase in cycle I which is 68.86 had improved to 85.31in cycle II. This study concludes that the implementation of PSScan improve learning process and student’s MPSS at class VII5 SMPN 4 PekanbaruKey Words: Problem Solving Strategy, mathematical problem solving ability, class action research

Abstract

Abstract : This research aims to improve student’s mathematics learning achievement through implementation of Contextual Teaching and Learning approach. This type of research is Classroom Action Research with two cycle. The research was conducted in class VIII1 SMPN 1 Teluk Kuantan at the first semester of the 2018/2019 academic year. The subject of this researchconsist of 32 students, there are 19 female students and 13 male students. The research instrument consists of learning materials (Sylabus, Lesson Plan, and Activity Sheets) and instruments for collecting data (Observation Sheets and Mathematical achievement test). Data analysis technique in this study are descriptive narrative analysis of qualitative data and descriptive statistics analysis ofquantitative data. Based on analysis of the observation sheet, the application of Contextual Teaching and Learning approach can improve the learning process as indicated by the increase in the activity of teacher and students in each cycle. Data obtained from mathematical achievement test result the percentage of students which ispass Minimum Mastery Crieria (MMC) increase from 37,5% to 59,4% at the first test and to 75% at the second test. This research concludes that the implementation of Contextual Teaching and Learning approach improved the learning process and the student’s mathematical achievement at class VIII1 SMPN 1 Teluk Kuantan in the first semester of the 2018/2019 academic year.Key Words : Mathematics Learning Achievement, Contextual Teaching and Learning approach, Classroom Action Research.

Abstract

Abstract: This research to improve the learning process and the student’s mathematical understanding skill by Discovery Learning model. The type of this research is Classrom Action Research with two cycles. The subject of this research were students of class VII2 SMPN 5 Pekanbaru. This study was conducted in the second semester of academic year 2017/2018. The research instruments used are mathematical learning instruments (Syllabus, Lesson Plans, and Student Worksheet) and instruments for collecting data (Observation Sheets and Mathematical-Understanding Tests). The observation sheets were used to find out the data of students and teacher activity during learning process wich would analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively, and mathematical understanding test were used to collect the student’s mathematical understanding skill outcomes which would analyzed quantitatively. Based on the analysis of the observation sheets showed that implementation of learning process on cycle II had happened improvement from implementation on cycle I. Result of the test indicated that the student’s learning achievement for the first is 50,9 improved in cycle I to 75,68 and improved to 85,30 in cycle II. The improvement of student’s learning achievement founded for each indicator of mathematical understanding skill: redefine the concept, appyling the concept logically, and associating various concepts in mathematics. Based on the result above, it can be concluded that the implementation of Discovery Learning model approach can improve the learning process and the students’ mathematical understanding skill outcomes at class VII2 SMP Negeri 5 Pekanbaru.Key Words: Discovery Learning, mathematical understanding skill, learning process
