Abstract

Vocabulary as one of language components becomes a vital part in mastering language, especially English as a foreign language. Without having sufficient vocabularies, it is impossible for students to be able to communicate and use language well. Song which is integrated with picture is believed to be able to enlarge the students’ vocabulary mastery since both song and picture can acquire students’ curiosity and attention and able to encourage them to enjoy learning. This research was carried out to improve the fifth grade students’ vocabulary achievement through song integrated with picture at MI UNGGULAN AL ISHLAH Tembokrejo – Muncar – Banyuwangi. The research design applied was a classroom action research (CAR) in collaboration with an English teacher which was conducted in two cycles. The data was collected from interview, observation and test. The research result revealed that there is an improvement on the students’ vocabulary test and their active involvement during learning process in cycle 1 and 2. The mean score of vocabulary test increased from 69.9 in cycle 1 to 76.38 in cycle 2 and more than 75% of the students involved actively in the vocabulary teaching learning process in cycle 2. It met the target criteria of success which means that song which is integrated with picture can enlarge students’ vocabulary achievement and make students more enthusiastic in classroom.

Abstract

Salah satu indikator penguasaan bahasa bagi seseorang adalah memiliki kosakata yang memadai. Terbatasnya kosakata menyebabkan kesulitan dalam menangkap maksud dan ide saat mendengarkan, memahami teks bacaan, mengatakan sesuatu dan mengungkapkan pikiran dan ide. Penerapan flashcard elektronik seharusnya dapat memperluas kosakata siswa karena dapat menstimulasi memori visual dan memori fotografi. Penelitian tindakan kelas (CAR) ini dilakukan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman kosakata siswa kelas tujuh melalui flashcard elektronik di MTs MUKHTAR SYAFAAT - BLOKAGUNG - BANYUWANGI. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua tahap berkolaborasi dengan guru bahasa Inggris. Data diperoleh dari observasi, wawancara, pre test dan post test. Hasil penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa aplikasi media flashcard elektronik dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa. Hal ini dapat dibuktikan dari peningkatan skor rata-rata siswa dalam tes kosakata dan peningkatan jumlah siswa yang mendapat skor sama atau lebih tinggi dari Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) yaitu 70. Nilai rata – rata kosakata siswa pada saat pretest adalah 58.24, pada siklus I hasil rata – rata nilai kosakata siswa adalah 70.05 dan pada siklus II meningkat menjadi 77.3. Persentase siswa yang mendapat nilai minimal 70 meningkat dari 70.27% pada siklus pertama ke 81.08% pada siklus kedua. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan kartu flashcard elektronik dapat meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa.                   Kata Kunci: Flashcard Elektronik, Penguasaan Kosakata.

Abstract

Due to the developments of social networking in education, teachers have to provide the innovative techniques and select the best way in teaching learning process in classroom, especially in learning English as a foreign language so that the students are interested and eager to learn English. Edmodo as one of online learning media is believed to present an effective solution in the teaching English. This research investigates the effectiveness of blended learning by using Edmodo in teaching English for nursing students. This research used quasi experimental research design. It begins from conducting homogeneity test, deciding the experimental group and control group. Then, it was continued by giving activities to the control class using face to face learning and giving treatments to the experimental class that was using blended learning (combine face to face learning with online learning/Edmodo), then giving the same post-test to both classes. The result indicated that there was a signifcant effect of teaching English in blended learning by using Edmodo on nursing students. It is proved by the value of signifcant column of t-test table and the result is 0.000 which was lower than 0.05. Abstrak  Seiring perkembangan jejaring sosial dalam pendidikan, guru harus memberikan teknik inovatif dan memilih cara terbaik dalam proses pembelajaran di kelas, terutama dalam belajar bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing sehingga siswa tertarik dan bersemangat untuk belajar bahasa Inggris. Edmodo sebagai salah satu media pembelajaran online diyakini menghadirkan solusi efektif dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini mengkaji efektivitas pembelajaran campuran dengan menggunakan Edmodo dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris untuk mahasiswa keperawatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian quasi experimental. Dimulai dari melakukan uji homogenitas, menentukan kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. Kemudian dilanjutkan dengan memberikan treatmen kepada kelas kontrol menggunakan pembelajaran tatap muka dan perlakuan ke kelas eksperimen yaitu menggunakan blended learning (menggabungkan pembelajaran tatap muka dengan pembelajaran online/Edmodo), kemudian memberikan post-test yang sama untuk keduanya. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh yang signifkan dari kombinasi mengajar tatap muka dengan Edmodo terhadap kemampuan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa keperawatan. Abstract

As one of world languages, English is broadly used in many aspects such as science, business, technology, and education. Thus English is highly necessary to be introduced as soon as possible to the students in order to compete in the globalization era. The purpose of this community service activity is to integrate the English material in the curriculum of TPQ (Al-Qur’an Learning Center), so the students can know earlier about English as a global language. This activity was conducted at TPQ Al-Mataab - Tembokrejo – Muncar – Banyuwangi in which the classes were divided into two, they are class A (students aged 7-10) and class B (students aged 11-14). The methods used were drilling, flashcard, and songs in training and giving Basic English materials to the students. Some steps in performing this activity were preparation, conducting pre test to find out the initial of students’ English ability, training and teaching, and giving post test to know the progress of the activity. The mean score result of class A showed the enhancement from 43.89 in pre test to 62.41 in post test. While in class B the pre test result was 61.4 and in post test increase into 71.6. It indicated that students are eager and excited in learning English and it is feasible and potential to be integrated in TPQ curriculum.

Abstract

Sertifikasi dosen merupakan apresiasi yang diberikan kepada dosen berupa sertifikat pendidik sebagai dosen profesional melalui berbagai tahap penilaian dan mendapatkan tunjangan profesi dari pemerintah. Salah satu syarat untuk mengikuti seleksi Serdos yaitu harus mengikuti tes TOEP (Test of English Proficiency). Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah untuk memberikan tips dan trik mengerjakan soal TOEP baik Listening maupun Reading bagi para dosen Stikes Banyuwangi dengan harapan bisa mendapatkan hasil lebih baik dan maksimal sesuai harapan sehingga bisa lulus dalam nilai gabungan (NGB) pada proses seleksi serdos. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah ceramah, diskusi, dan latihan. Peserta pelatihan ini adalah para dosen yang sudah dinyatakan eligible pada pangkalan data Dikti untuk mengikuti seleksi serdos. Kami memberikan pretest sebelum materi diberikan dan post test setelah kegiatan pelatihan untuk mengukur tingkat keberhasilan program ini. Hasil menunjukkan ada peningkatan nilai pretest dengan rata – rata 30.7 meningkat pada rata – rata  skor post test yaitu 40. Skor juga menunjukkan jika mayoritas dosen mendapat skor konversi 3 sesuai target yang diharapkan. Peningkatan skor dan tercapainya target menunjukkan jika kegiatan pelatihan TOEP ini berhasil sebagai sebuah solusi dan jawaban atas permasalahan yang dialami para dosen dalam menghadapi tes kemampuan bahasa Inggris (TOEP).

Abstract

One of the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic is on educational sector in which the government closes the school access temporarily to avoid the spread of Covid19 and suggests the distance learning by opening educational platform that can be used by the institutions and educators to reach students remotely and limit educational distractions. Zoom cloud meeting is one of the platforms that is widely used as a learning media because this application allows learning activities or discussions like in face to face learning and support communication needs with many people anywhere and anytime without meeting physically. This research intended to describe the conditions occur in distance learning process using zoom as an alternative solving problems and its effectiveness in teaching English to nursing students during covid-19 pandemic. This research method is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques performed by distributing questionnaire via Google Form and doing interview through Whatsapp video call. The result showed only 44% students mentioned if using zoom is effective in learning English. It indicated that the use of Zoom Meeting is not quite effective because it is constrained by bad network that causes intermittent voice, and the lack of students' level of understanding on the material being taught because English is different from other courses which use our native Indonesian language. Besides, it is difficult in practicing conversations which are carried out in pairs or in groups. However, Zoom application is better than other educational platforms because it facilitates distance learning and enables discussion like in a real classroom.

Sebagai salah satu bahasa dunia, bahasa Inggris digunakan secara luas dalam banyak aspek sep ert i ilmu pengetahuan, bisnis, teknologi, dan pendidikan. Sehingga bahasa Inggris sangat diperlukan untuk diperkenalkan sesegera mungkin kepada para siswa agar dapat bersaing di era globalisa si. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk mengintegrasikan materi bahasa Inggris dalam kurikulum TPQ, sehingga santri dapat mengenal Bahasa Inggris lebih awal sebagai bahasa global. Kegiatan ini dilakukan di TPQ Al-Mataab - Tembokrejo - Muncar - Banyuwangi yang mana kelas di TPQ dibagi menjadi dua, yaitu kelas A (santri berusia 7-10 tahun) dan kelas B (santri berusia 11-14 tahun). Metode yang digunakan adalah drilling, flashcard, dan lagu dalam memberikan pelatihan dan materi Bahasa Inggris Dasar kepada santri. Beberapa langkah dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan ini adalah persiapan, melakukan pretest untuk mengetahui kemampuan awal bahasa Inggris santri, memberikan pelatihan dan pengajaran, dan memberikan posttest unt u k mengetahui kemajuan hasil kegiatan. Hasil nilai rata -rata kelas A meningkat dari 43.89 pada pretest menjadi 62.41 pada posttest. Sedangkan di kelas B hasil pretest 61.4 dan pada posttest meningkat menjadi 71.6. Ini menunjukkan bahwa santri sangat bersemangat dalam belajar bahasa Inggris dan hal ini sangat bagus dan layak untuk diintegrasikan dengan kurikulum di TPQ.Kata Kunci: Bahasa Inggris, TPQ (Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an), Pembelajaran

Abstract

In this new normal era, the government has implemented new normal policies in various lines including education. This situation requires school community to adapt to this new normal era by complying with the health protocols set by the government. The lecturers as the main learning facilitator have very crucial role in forming new habits for students. Lecturers must be able to adapt in learning activities from the planning to its evaluation. Learning innovations and the usage of suitable and diverse media for learning significantly hold up enhancing the educational quality in the new normal era. One of the appropriate learning model solutions as a way to adapt in the new normal era is by applying hybrid learning in the Intensive English class. Hybrid learning model is a learning type which mixes face-to face and online by utilizing technological sophistication. This study aimed to explain hybrid as a form of learning solution on intensive English Program at Stikes Banyuwangi as an adaptation form to face the new normal era. The results of study indicated that hybrid learning make students easier in practicing the conversation during Intensive English class and can improve their learning outcomes and scores, especially in their speaking.  71.7% students stated that hybrid learning increase effectiveness, efficiency and their attractiveness, so it is quite effective to be applied. Then 85 students (81.8%) prefer hybrid learning than full online learning or totally face to face learning.
