Abstract

ABSTRACT: Open channel flow will experience a change in velocities if there is a sluice gate. An open channel flow will have different velocities in the upstream and downstream. This will also affect the velocity distribution that is vary in each flow condition. The objective of this study is to investigate the flow velocity distribution and shear stress distribution in upstream using Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) and using a theoretical equations (Von Karman and Logaritmik). And also investigate the flow vector in upstream. In this study used a channel/flume. The result of initiation measurement obtained discharge of 2.3 lt/sec with a velocity range of 30cm/sec and a sampling rate of 50Hz with amount of data used are 7500 data in each measurement point. The measurement using the Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter performed that the largest velocity value obtained at 2,3 cm of door openings at a depth of 11.976 cm with velocity value 18.833 cm/sec. The flow velocity gets smaller until downstream. Using the theoretical fequations Von Karman and Logarithmic compared with the results of ADV data performed that the velocity distribution at section 30 up to section 180 has a graph that almost coincides, whereas at section 10 has a different graph because its closest to the sluice gate. The flow vector at section 30 up to section 180 having a straight (longitudinal) vector direction, whereas for section 10 has a reduction (vertical) vector direction because the influence of flow under the sluice gate. The largest shear stress value that occurs in the inner region in every section because the influence of the channel friction base.
