Abstract

Abstrak. Telah dilakukan penelitian mengenai pemanfaatan limbah cangkang udang menjadi kitin sebagai media pertumbuhan bakteri kitinolitik melalui perlakuan kimia dan perlakuan fisik. Perlakuan fisik yang diberikan terhadap limbah cangkang udang meliputi pemanasan menggunakan microwave, penyangraian, pemanasan menggunakan oven, serta pemanasan dibawah sinar matahari. Serbuk cangkang udang yang telah diberikan perlakuan fisik maupun kimia menunjukkan hasil yang berbeda. Hasil analisis menggunakan surface area analyzer menunjukkan bahwa serbuk cangkang udang dengan perlakuan kimia dan microwave mempunyai ukuran pori yaitu 18,44 Å dan 117,8 Å. Hasil tersebut didukung dengan hasil analisis morfologi menggunakan SEM bahwa serbuk cangkang udang hasil perlakuan kimia dan microwave mempunyai struktur yang berongga dibandingkan yang lain. Serbuk cangkang udang yang mengandung kitin hasil modifikasi dengan perlakuan kimia dan microwave dapat digunakan sebagai media pertumbuhan bakteri kitinolitik.   Kata Kunci: Limbah cangkang udang, kitin, perlakuan fisik dan kimia.   Abstract. Researches to utilization of shrimp shell waste to be chitin as a growth media of chitinolitic bacteria through chemical treatment and physical treatments. Physical treatments that given to shrimp shell waste is heating using microwave, roasting, oven, and drying under the sun. Shrimp shell powder that has been given physical and chemical treatment showed different results. The results of the analysis using surface area analyzer showed that shrimp powder with chemical treatment and microwave have pore size is 18,44 Å and 117,8 Å. The results are supported by morphological analysis using SEM that shrimp shell powder that given by chemical treatment and microwave has a more crude structure than others. Shrimp shell powder containing modified chitin by chemical and microwave treatments can be used as a growth media for chitinolytic bacteria.   Key words: Shrimp shell waste, chitin, physical and chemical treatments
