Padadasarnya konsep HaKI sendiri merupakan bentuk penemuan-penemuan (inventions) maupun hasil karya cipta dan seni (art and literary work), terutama ketika hasil kreativitas itu digunakan untuk tujuan komersial. In the era of modern society, respect for the results of knowledge, arts and culture is accommodated through granting exclusive rights to its inventors as Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
