<![CDATA[This study aims to identify the base sector and its relationship to employment in Merangin District during the period of 2008-2015 using time series data analysis method with Location Quotient (LQ) and Pearson Correlation. Based on the results of the analysis that has been done in obtaining the result that LQ analysis produces three sectors whose average LQ value> 1 during the period of 2008-2015. The result of LQ analysis during the last eight years is the construction sector of 1.97, the agricultural sector at 1.40 and the services sector of 1.26 which became the leading sector in Merangin District. Relationship of base sector economic growth with employment absorption using Pearson Correlation Analysis formula there is only one sector base that is service sector having strong relation to employment absorption in Merangin Regency equal to 0,76 percent. Based on the results of correlation analysis can be concluded that the hypothesis about there is a positive and strong relationship between the growth of the base sector in Merangin district, can not be proved or no significant effect because not all the base sector has a strong correlation with employment. Keywords: GRDP, Base Sector, Employment Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi sektor basis dan hubungannya terhadap penyerapan tenaga kerja di Kabupaten Merangin dalam periode 2008-2015 dengan mengunakan metode analisis data time series dengan Location Quotient (LQ) dan Korelasi Pearson. Berdasarkan hasil analisis yang telah dilakukakan di peroleh hasil bahwa Analisis LQ menghasilkan tiga sektor yang nilai LQ rata-ratanya > 1 selama periode 2008-2015. Hasil analisis LQ selama delapan tahun terakhir yaitu sektor konstruksi sebesar 1,97, sektor pertanian sebesar 1,40 dan sektor jasa-jasa sebesar 1,26 yang menjadi sektor unggulan di Kabupaten Merangin. Hubungan pertumbuhan ekonomi sektor basis dengan penyerapan tenaga kerja mengunakan formula Analisis Korelasi Pearson hanya terdapat 1 sektor basis yaitu sektor jasa-jasa yang memiliki hubungan yang kuat terhadap penyerapan tenaga kerja di Kabupaten Merangin sebesar 0,76 persen. Berdasarkan hasil analisis korelasi dapat di simpulkan bahwa hipotesis tentang terdapat hubungan yang positif dan kuat antara pertumbuhan ekonomi sektor basis tersebut di Kabupaten Merangin, tidak dapat di buktikan atau tidak berpengaruh secara signifikan karena tidak seluruh sektor basis memiliki korelasi yang kuat dengan penyerapan tenaga kerja.
